How nice to have a machine dig out the ballast ! When i was doing this work, it was dig out with shovels and took 4 of us to slide the sleeper out ( concretes ) . Steel sleepers are even worse to remove/install by hand !

As a locomotive engineer for Union Pacific railroad in Texas, I was wondering what the max speed is there for frt trains. My last run was two hundred mile, at 75mph. The train was 8200 feet long and 15000 tons. Is that comparable to the trains you guy run over the?

Did you use ballast stabilizator machine after to stabilize the ballast under the newly instaled concrete sleepers and therefor stabilize concrete sleepers themselves?

Hei. Im just wondering is this really that slow in today? because in our country we change about 40-60 sleepers in one hour.

Here in scotland when they changed the rails and sleepers at the railway station the old rails were removed followed by the sleepers then new sleepers were laid then the new rails were fitted in the 50's they did it this way kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnqWgoBmhaehZqM

The sleepers are basically hung from the rails when being installed. Does the ballast just work its way under the sleepers with time? Thank you!

It has to be packed underneath either manually using a robel or with a train called a tamper

What does that operator of the grabber machine make an hour?
@jbright9710 жыл бұрын
The same eight guys are there but now they just stand around and watch one person work. The American way.

That ballast is a real bitch, no doubt about it. Dont' really understand why we need it with concrete ties.

Good old rails :)

That must be a new operator. I hope it's not always that slow. It's painful to watch.

Not going to work if you're under overhead power... It's faster with a sleeper grab and a decent operator.
