I wrote an english translation for the lyrics on the 'official live' video, I'll post it here for you as well in case you may be interested! It's a bit tricky since the lyrics are written in a very 'poetic' kind of form. To all germans: Dies ist keine wortwörtliche-, sondern eine sinnbildliche Übersetzung, also bitte nicht an Kleinigkeiten aufhängen, danke! Anyway, here goes: A foghorn is blowing through the thick (fog) It wants to see me, it screams for me wander off with the dead... wander off with the dead... So I journey into the wall of light and the sound turns dense so I shall prepare for battle wander off with the dead... wander off with the dead... Restless I wander, asking myself is it a curse or a blessing The wind accompanies my duty it strengthens (/has) my back, whips into my face it laughs with me and shares my tears but it knows nothing of the war... The green swaps it's color for gray The trees are showing their bare bones (frame/skeleton) The warmth fades and it gets cold the world shrouded into cerecloth In the thin forest off the path, eyes are glowing wolves are howling, transfixing me they're staring at me, I have to follow them but they know nothing of the war... (again) The green swaps it's color for gray The trees are showing their bare bones The warmth fades and it gets cold Are you coming to get me? you've trapped too many souls already... are you coming to get me? you've trapped too many souls already... but you won't get mine! Far away from this world, I'll rest until the screams fall silent (and the) life blossoms and blossoms and blossoms..

No album made me cry like Finisterre. Especially as a german the lyrics hit you hard.

I wish I understood German cause I feel like even when you translate them to English there are things that are bound to be lost in translation.
@watzesnow71693 жыл бұрын
The german language permitted you to play with words like (in my understanding) no other language... That is what it makes hard to translate it 1:1

Even after listening to this song for at least 100 times the goosbumps hit me with tears in my eyes. They just hit the right spot in me.
@europapagana36334 жыл бұрын
"Der Weg Einer Freiheit" means something like "The path of a freedom" or "The way of a freedom". "Aufbruch" means "Departure". Loved your reaction. Cheers from Germany. :)
@richardctaylor794 жыл бұрын
I think, if you turn it into English grammar from there, the "a" is redundant and we would not say it. It is probably just "The path of freedom" this would sound better in English....
@crimsondeath6664 жыл бұрын
@@richardctaylor79 actually not. It's kinda like that in German as well. You would assume, it should be "Der Weg der Freiheit" (the way of freedom) here as well, but is specifically the way of A freedom. Maybe this is because the definition and the feeling of freedom mean something else to everyone and is something really personal. And this is the way of this specific freedom. Nevertheless it is some kind of philosophical question.
@Ausdoerrt3 жыл бұрын
@@crimsondeath666 I've always assumed (not sure if correctly) that the "a freedom" refers to death as liberation. You know, DSBM vibes and all

"The path of a freedom", it reminds me eren yeager from attack on titan

"einer" is the genitive case, so a more correct translation would be "The path of one's freedom" in my opinion

Funny thing is: I watched your video for the 4th time now, over the course of a year. I always come back to it because you seem to be a very nice guy and exactly mirror my feelings whenever I'm listening to DWEF. Also - thx to you, I found Wiegedood. Cheers man, hope you are doing okay.

Great honest reaction! I really like your style of reviewing pieces of music, gained a sub there x) I remember seeing this band for the first time, didn't know about them before and i instantly fell in love with their music and how tight zhey are live. When they played this song, i closed my eyes and got completely carried away by the music. I entered some kinda trance, to the point i didn't remember where i was when i opened my eyes again. This compared to nothing i experienced before, or ever since then

Wow... Der Weg is one of my favorite bands. And Aufbruch give me chills everytime I listen to it. They're awesome. Also, I recommend you Wolves in the throne room-I Will Lay Down My Bones Among the Rocks and Roots (18 minutes long, but it's gold) and a fusion of atmospheric Black metal and scotish folk Saor-Forgotten Paths (For example, he has very good songs). Enjoy it, they're awesome

Els vas veure en directe a Barcelona? Jo hi vaig estar amb dos amics. És increïble sentir-los en directe, molt poques bandes sonen així, però esque DWEF són brutals. Wolves In The Throne Room vindràn a actuar també a l'Octubre del 2022.
