From what I recall his solo records after leaving Humble Pie didn't sell too well (even the one with the studio version of this song), but this live album put him over the top into R&R guru status. If I recall correctly, this episode was recorded just a couple of weeks after the gigs at Winterland Ballroom, San Francisco, that make up about half of the tracks on "Frampton Comes Alive". Peter was one of those musicians who despite managing to reach a high level of success and fame were cast aside way to quickly and absolutely deserved to be bigger and have a longer career at the top. The whole band in fact were so talented and on point live it’s still awesome to watch them perform after already having watched hundreds of times

I watched Peter perform this in the 70’s at Newcastle City Hall. The band was named Frampton’s Camel. They were supporting Uriah Heep who were a band I loved then. I was 15 years old then and I thought Peter Frampton blew them away.

Recording an acoustic 12-string at that volume is no easy task. Respect for the sound engineer. (:

Every single human being alive in the mid-seventies owned the "Frampton Comes Alive" album. And every one of those records, I distinctly recall, was out near the turntable, never put away with the other LPs. Every copy I saw had a disc-shaped bit of wear and tear on the cover (and, of course, a few stems and seeds stuck inside). I'm so impressed that Mr. Frampton not only survived his mega-fame , but somehow emerged from it all with grace, humility, and an intact work ethic. And he's still with us, and still kills it live! (And not in a sad, golden oldies, "Beach Boys-featuring-one-member-of-the-original-lineup", "PBS fundraiser" kinda way LOL)

Bob Heil Kustom Electronics was the first company to successfully market a talk box but Bob Heil was the guy who built one you could easily play on stage. Heil got the idea for his talk box from Joe Walsh, who was using the box Bill West made with Pete Drake. Still being used to this day.. Yet Frampton made it famous....

Cool. I forgot about Joe Walsh using one.
