Pete Frampton...one of the best musicians in the world...completely underrated...

I never understand why people say that musicians that are loved around the world 🌎 are - "Underrated"? You do know "Frampton Comes Alive" has sold millions of records, right? Peter's guitar 🎸 work has been loved since Humble Pie. What does a guy have to do to be rated?!

I never met your dad, but I feel I do know him. Every time I put a disc on or crank up the song on the radio, we are high-fiving, hugging, rockin' out... and we look in each other eyes to know the truth, something we can take with us when we must go. Classic Rock and Roll, sixties and seventies, mostly. Not much else.

From what I recall his solo records after leaving Humble Pie didn't sell too well (even the one with the studio version of this song), but this live album put him over the top into R&R guru status. IIRC "Frampton Comes Alive" and Cheap Tricks "Live at Budakon" were the largest selling albums until Michael Jackson's "Thriller" came out. Great times, great music back then.

If I recall correctly, this episode was recorded just a couple of weeks after the gigs at Winterland Ballroom, San Francisco, that make up about half of the tracks on "Frampton Comes Alive". Which means these songs were unknown to most of the audience, since the album wasn't released until a couple of months after this show was taped. Imagine being in that audience, on that day, hearing all these amazing songs for the very first time!

I remember the show, it was taped before a live audience, about an hour long with 2-3 acts playing, just about anyone who was anyone appeared on it. I used to works nights, went to college in the day, this was on either Friday of Saturday at midnight and I'd usually get home to catch it. Tips at the restaurant I worked at back then were way too good not to work Fri/Sat nights in summer even if it meant missing half of the show!.

I was a teenager in the eighties, and this music was not my thing,it was 'old', the cool thing was techno, new age, easy pop songs. Now in my fifties I strongly believe the seventies were the best, I am discovering all the great songs and artists I dismissed in my youth, and I'm so happy with that! Peter Frampton, America, Murray Head ,Starbucks,Guess Who, Neil Young,so many great artists!!!

Same here! I was just putting a bunch of my favorite "roller rink songs" on a playlist, and started watching some of the videos - I always liked the Steve Miller Band, but now wonder why I never watched Peter Frampton - he's great! Always loved that mouth thing in an early Foo Fighters song, and I knew he got the idea from someone... :)

Peter was one of those musicians who despite managing to reach a high level of success and fame were cast aside way to quickly and absolutely deserved to be bigger and have a longer career at the top. The whole band in fact were so talented and on point live it’s still awesome to watch them perform after already having watched hundreds of times

I watched Peter perform this in the 70’s at Newcastle City Hall. The band was named Frampton’s Camel. They were supporting Uriah Heep who were a band I loved then. I was 15 years old then and I thought Peter Frampton blew them away.

Every single human being alive in the mid-seventies owned the "Frampton Comes Alive" album. And every one of those records, I distinctly recall, was out near the turntable, never put away with the other LPs. Every copy I saw had a disc-shaped bit of wear and tear on the cover (and, of course, a few stems and seeds stuck inside). I'm so impressed that Mr. Frampton not only survived his mega-fame , but somehow emerged from it all with grace, humility, and an intact work ethic. And he's still with us, and still kills it live! (And not in a sad, golden oldies, "Beach Boys-featuring-one-member-of-the-original-lineup", "PBS fundraiser" kinda way LOL)

Bob Heil Kustom Electronics was the first company to successfully market a talk box but Bob Heil was the guy who built one you could easily play on stage. Heil got the idea for his talk box from Joe Walsh, who was using the box Bill West made with Pete Drake. Still being used to this day.. Yet Frampton made it famous....
