Ansley Dunbar is a beast on the drums. That friggin snare sounds GREAT!!

I have been watching bootleg videos of this and other Bowies videos from this particular show for years and most with a lot of quality flaws or missing spots but was happy to see them and could live with them! ...But finally, it's so great to start seeing very high-quality original TMS videos here on "The Midnight Special" channel from Bowie's 1980 Floor Show that aired back in 1973 and I remember it like it was yesterday! ...I sure hope eventually the whole show will be shown in its entirety! ...As there was nothing else ever like it ever since as it was almost the end of his Ziggy-Aladdin persona! ...Absolutely Bowie fantastic! Thank you Midnight Special for releasing it and the many other shows and artist you have been sharing as I have been praying for many, many, many years for this musical history day to come from you!

Yeah interesting to see Mick Ronson playing with him. I thought Bowie had already fired him.

This is sorta that grey area between Ziggy and the Thin White Duke Bowie, but this performance is sooper-cool with Ansley Dunbar on drums, which is kind of a heavy drummer upgrade, but not necessarily the best fit for the soul music that emerges right after this. Anyway, great to have this footage!

“Dodo” has been one of my favorite Bowie performances since seeing it back in 1974!! 👨🏻🎤⚡️

One of craziest things I saw @ The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was a costume that Bowie wore from this era and his waist was crazy small.
@kevind4850 Жыл бұрын
By this time, he was spiraling into a period where he was basically subsisting on cocaine and milk. A year later, he was having trouble walking, though he still got through performances fairly well. He dropped below 100 pounds at one point. His "Thin White Duke" character was truly skeletal.

It really makes you wonder how a beautiful black girl like Ava Cherry could fall for him when he looked like that. I mean, he's talented and all and apparently had a Pringles can between his legs so maybe that's what did it.

did the original upload call it “You Didn’t Hear It From Me”? I assume that title would have been used since that’s what they taped it as before it was changed to “Dodo” during the studio recording of the medley

Such a fantastic performance and a peek into what might have been as this was supposed to be the opening number of the play of Orwell's 1984 that Bowie was working on at the time only to have Orwell's wife refuse to give him the righrs. Being Bowie he moved on quickly keeping a song or two from the stalled musical it became the basis for his next album, Diamond Dogs.
@dickiefears5832 Жыл бұрын
I understand what you're saying, but remember if he had got the rights to make a musical based on the book, Bowie's trajectory would probably have been different. Things have a knock on effect of what comes next. There may well not have been a Young Americans, a Station To Station, the so called Berlin trilogy, etc. Even the Diamond Dogs album!
@michaelabbott516 Жыл бұрын
@@dickiefears5832 Totally agree, I was just giving a little backstory as a way to illustrate Bowie's penchant for adapting quickly and how he can change a bad situation into a chance to challenge himself and come up with something, usually, better than he originally intended. Plus I'm a big fan of these transitional performances where he is already tipping his hat to what's coming next. "Tomorrow belongs to those who can hear it coming" 👩🎤⚡

"Warren Peace" (Geoff MacCormack) uno de los grandes amigos de Bowie, en la percusión! Ava Cherry (su interés romántico y musa) en coros...más lo que quedaba de The Spiders from Mars. Qué fascinante configuración de musicos.

I love the horns juxtaposed with Mick Ronson's guitar, and the Astronettes. This arrangement is superior to the studio version. I don't know why David changed it.
