I agree. And this is such a common theme with their "guests" who barely get a word edgewise!

I really love you guys ... by watching your documentary and reading your book my entire life has completely changed...many thanks to you again. By not buying paper towels, tissues, plastic wrap, I have more money available to buy better quality products, so our health is better. I have a monthly budget where I pay specific bills weekly. They get the money when it's due rather than when I can. No late charges. I buy fewer clothes since my clothes are my uniform. So less credit card debt. That means I can pay more on my debts and save more which I put in categories such as emergency fund, vacation, auto repair, pet care, unemployment, life insurance (just in case), senior care, retirement, education, etc. By the time we need it, it's there. We can charge it and pay it right away.

The number one reason two people decide to live together is money. The number one reason two people stop living together is money. Money management is extremely important in a close relationship!!

I really liked that tip at the end about listening, having your palms up to "recieve" what the other person is saying. So simple, yet it kinda just clicked in me and made a lot of sense. Will definetly try doing this, I will make a conscious effort this week and see how it goes :)

i would like to hear your take on having too many hobbies and collecting things for the hobbies but never really get around to it etc like having a bunch of books you like looking at but realistically are not going to read but like to have regardless. thanks

Lucy Vitek I’m in that situation as well. I am a very diversified crafter. However, I try now to just do the top two hobbies that I love and sell the excess supplies I don’t use for the other hobbies. I like to try new crafts and hobbies all the time, and the hobbies that don’t stick with me I sell off the supplies and move on.

I also approach things when I declutter or try to pair down by looking at an item and asking me the question of “Have I used this in the past 6 months”, and then if the answer is “no”, I then ask, “Do I foresee myself using this in the next 6 months” and the answer is usually still “no” . In that case, I sell it or pass it on to someone else.

My husband and I have a 5 year plan... I feel like we are drowning right now, his student loans are astronomical and I have a lot of medical debt and student loans. I am hoping to get credit cards paid off by the end of the year/beginning of next... then we got to hit the rest hard so we can start saving for the down payment of our future home! Dave Ramsey is helping us get on track though! I love them so much!

Since interest is forbidden in Islam buying a house with mortgage payments (interest) is totally forbidden. Taking loan is also strongly discouraged in Islam. But unfortunately many Muslims here in USA follow the American Dream and end up buying a big house with a huge debt. Like many others we did the same mistake ten years ago. But around two years ago we realized our mistake and felt guilty of paying the interest. So we started to pay off slowly and by the grace of Allah we finished paying off the loan this month. We are feeling so relieved and free! Thank you for your podcasts!

I'm still learning about minimalism. The variations of it, the baselines, etc. My question is, can a minimalism have a collection, just for the purpose of a hobby. Like a toy or a book collection. I know it is kind of the opposite of the idea of a minimalist which is (cmiiw) against having things that doesn't bring any value to your life, but what about a hobby or a passion of collecting a particular thing? Please help me on this one

I feel like if its bringing you joy then its fine. Its not just stuff you're hoarding. Your collection does bring value to your life..mental value dont forget that....mental value is a big deal if it makes you feel great and excited about your collection then its totally okay
