Today we clean out our storage unit and see what we find! We haven't been in this storage space in over 5 years (and haven't missed any of it!). We didn't find much that we needed, but we did get it cleared out and organized. Now we don't have to have this cluttered storage unit hanging over our heads and can return it to my dad!

Yes, we are "shiplaping" our livingroom, building builtin bookcases in our livingroom and replacing our half wall staircase with a horizontal black iron railing. Both myself & my husband are laid off during quarantine. So projects go on steroids 😂 Ohhh...and I found a parts camper to finish ours! We are so much a like!

Here in Switzerland we have finished week two of five in the Corona Lock Down... think there will be more... our project (besides homeoffice and homeschooling and try not to kill each other...) is switching two rooms which have been rarely used before and at the same time keep the decluttering going... still a lot of work but looking forward to the results.

My storage nightmare story: a few years ago, my mother-in-law was dying from cancer and every Saturday that we visited her, she’d send keepsakes home with us. At the same time, my mother was preparing to move in with us, and when we’d visit her on Sundays, she’d send HER stuff home with us. So I was helping BOTH of them go through their stuff, which included some of THEIR mom’s stuff. It was a totally overwhelming experience. I’ve been slowly getting rid of things ever since, but it has seemed like the junk I’ve stored in my shed just keeps multiplying at night while I’m sleeping! I do expect to finish this summer. I’ve definitely scaled back my own purchasing as a result of this-I don’t want MY kids to have to deal with my things if something would happen to me. It feels good to have bare walls, and bare floor space. I would rather spend my money on experiences, and making memories, not buying “stuff”. Thanks for listening 😃

We just finished second week of staying home. I don’t think I can declutter any more. But we are going to try. My daughters work stopped taking donations last week... so whenever this quarantine ends, she will be super busy from all of us that have been decluttering and not being able to take to Thrift store donation centers. Was actually surprised you had any items stored anywhere. You must feel good knowing those items will be donated. So many people will be looking in thrift stores after this trying time due to loss of pay. Looking forward to step project continuing. Keep healthy and stay home.

Thank you for bringing us with during the process of maintaining a decluttered life. I especially like the drawer and cabinet tours in other videos and find them to be so helpful. It's true how stressful it can be to open a drawer or cabinet that is a mess. Mini stressors add up and on the flip side, what a joy ones home can be when orderly and clean. These videos show how to do it. Kon Mari helps me know how to fold clothes and be thankful and release possessions via Eastern philosophy, while as Americans, you and Tom are nuts and bolts, Boom! Done. What you do is very much related to the ancient art and philosophy of Feng Shui, in China for many years.

I've moved and stored a lot in my life and I recommend putting a tarp over furniture to store and wrap anything fragile, like picture frames, in newspaper. But getting rid of stuff all together is better. I'm comfortable donating because I know it'll help someone. Makes it easier to part with my stuff. Don't feel guilty. Think of it as a lesson you learned about yourselves. "How do you turn down granite?" Ha ha.

If we do get down time (both hubby and will probably remain working from home) we plan on painting kitchen cabinets. Made to sure to buy everything we needed for the project.

I’m just coming across your channel and it feels so nice to see a realistic approach to minimalism. I’ve been minimal for 6 years but it’s been hard being in a transitional part of your life (post college, pre steady apartment) I’ve been pairing down since having to move back at my moms since Covid but I feel more in control aiming to be as minimal as I can. Stay healthy!

Corona projects: repair bathroom wall and paint. Our shelter in place has been extended so I plan on more painting, organizing, cleaning and decluttering. We are working on my mom's house and the amount of damaged stuff we had to toss was heartbreaking. I do feel your pain!

This video hits home and stirs up so many still very recent emotions. Last year we did a military move. Our new base did not have housing available for us and we spent 9 months in lodging. This past April we found out that the storage company that had our items had gotten flooded and disposed of so much of our things. I am not a sentimental person and I keep very few things like that. We lost so much stuff including the few things I had kept from our wedding and the few baby items from our two kids. I am feeling so many of the emotions watching this.

We are painting our basement a light grayish blue (crisp blue by hgtv). When we moved in there was a massive red wall (the longest wall in the whole house rotten tomato red😲😳😦) we have done about 1/3 of it and it already looks so much better and is more calming to be down there. 😁 I hope your stairs project goes great!

Great job going through it. You made it look so easy and effortless. I see now that our precious items can be ruined storing them so long. Thanks for the inspiration!!

My husband and I have been married for 18 years and we have a storage shed that has stuff that we both brought with from our previous marriages...we will be throwing away the most of it, I’m sure and donating anything salvageable which I’m sure isn’t much. Thank you for the inspiration to get started on that during this time where we’re spending more time together than we ever have so me being married 🤪😂. Dawn, yes you should be allowed as many throw pillows as you want...😂. I’m currently planting the seeds that we need to replace windows in our home...but I’m not holding my breath. 😂. I love seeing yours and Toms “adventures” as my husband and I call ours. You two are so cute together. ☺️. May God bless and keep you safe during this crazy time. 🥰

Woww! Reading the comments make me so surprised, i didnt knew that a lot of people in the US have storage units, like they already have gigantic homes with garages, basements, attics, etc.

It's a journey, look how far you've come. You now are more aware of what you use and how you like to live now. This is a really good lesson into dealing with stuff and not storing it. Yes it's a shame the stuff got damaged, but a lesson has been learnt from this experience so all is not lost. Also remember, moving house is stressful, downsizing even more so and when you add kids and daily life to the equation, you do what you can. I am personally always amazed at how much there is always left to clear out, even when you've just decluttered your whole house! It's a journey, not a destination 😀
