@@pitsnipe5559 As a kid in the 1950s, my mom folded EVERYTHING 'just so' that did not get hung up in the closet AFTER IRONING most with liquid not spray starch, and when I asked her WHY [she was exacting about almost everything, except some of her recipe measuring, which was a 'couple of glugs' of oil in a scratch cake], she answered that "everything fit better on the cabinet shelf or in dresser drawer when they were folded to fit there; and she never minded ironing everything, even in hot TX, Louisiana and Illinois summers without ANY AC ever. I was taught to iron at age 5 -- my idea as the only child/daughter, simple things like cotton handkerchiefs of my dad's and pillow cases -- with a child size iron that plugged in and warmed up but not HOT like mom's iron. I did not mind any chore except dusting because of dust allergies, but loved vacuuming, laundry, dishwashing by hand [we never had an elec d/w].
@safepethaven
@safepethaven 3 жыл бұрын
@@pitsnipe5559 my dad was age 17 to 21 as he enlisted right after Pearl Harbor and served 4 years in the US Navy all of WWII. As 1 or 7 growing up in the 1920s and the Great Depression, he learned EVERY household chore and more, and just did them WITHOUT WHINING because they just needed done. His sisters were assigned specific and constant non-rotating chores and they grew to hate them as adults. Dad did at least some of all home maint. beyond the heaviest lifting, but left much to my mom because she was so capable. Mom did 99% of the indoor house chores but dad was capable and pitched in periodically, after doing constant maint. and repairs wherever we lived, even apts. Truthfully he was the better cook the few times he did so. Dad was taught even more tasks while in the Navy such as military folding, sewing/mending of clothes, sails, etc. He taught me at age 9 how to fold/roll everything so it would not NEED ironing when stowed into a duffle bag, yes even a Navy uniform.

@@safepethaven yes, I find it interesting and incredible that, fold and roll ways how no wrinkles. My oldest is serving in the USA NAVY. He hangs his uniform as soon as possible. His neatness hasn't transfer to our home. If anyone says something everyone else says he needs his rest including my husband. My other children are using a hair straightening to iron some wrinkles out of clothing. They won't use the iron because, they are scared of getting burn.

So great to see, how differently we all are. I fold AND iron everything, down to bedsheets, tea towels and undergarments and I am sooo happy every time I open the closet and see everything looking neat and tidy. And yes, I do this to my husband’s and kids clothes too ;)

I don't think folding is a cricket trait. I'm a ladybug but I still want my stuff folded. I have simple drawers in my closet for all non hanging items....but still want them folded. In real life I've never heard of an adult throwing unfolded clothes into bins.

I recently watched a video on folding horse blankets. I have a horse, so it was of interest to me. Someone posted that they didn't have time for this. So, I went back and watched the video again...well...it took 27 seconds to fold it. Now, who can't find 27 seconds out of their day to fold a blanket? I feel the same way about folding clean clothes. I fold them right out of the dryer. I do not stuff them in a laundry basket and then fold them. That to me is two separate motions to do the same job that can be done in one. It is all about what bothers and what doesn't.

I definitely fold clothes straight out of the dryer because I don’t want to iron them. Plus they fit better folded or hung in my limited space. I absolutely love the way the two of you work together towards solutions.

Neatly fold!!!! I don't care how long it takes. I just want it to look nice and feel nice. It's kind of like why make your bed? Nobody is coming over or going to see it and I'm just going to get back into it. But oh!!! How nice it feels to pull down a freshly made bed and get in it for the night! You go Tom!
