Just did swap heres some tips: 1> If you have ABS module by the stearing box its damn hard to thread hoses to stearing box u might cross thread. So before putting the pump and bracket in, put your hoses on the stearing box but dont torque them down yet. Them put the bracket and pump in. Once thats done hook up the hoses to pump end and synch both ends of the hoses. 2> if you already swapped out your idler pulley for a metal pulley like the one on the tensioner than stock belt is almost too small. I had too pull the tensioner back completely and slip over the idler. Then its almost fully compressed when you release it. So be plan on checking it and possibly get a slightly larger belt.

Just did my swap today, I love it! Removed junkyard 94 E350 w/351 and was 100% perfect fit for my 95 F150 XL. Bought a new high pressure hose from donor van. Slight manipulation worked fine, kept stock cooler on my truck (kept in circuit) and pulley was same diameter. The van I pulled it from didn’t have a cooler. Pump was still in great shape, full of fluid (not burnt smelling) dry on outside and the lines were clean. It had a name of a church on the van, I considered myself lucky to find. I can see why one would use the hose kit from desolate motorsports for a clean, and easy install. But all worked out great. Thanks for the inspiration Stevie 😁 Total investment $30 pump & bracket from junkyard, $25.99 high pressure hose from O’Reilly Part# PPS 13401402, 1 quart of Type F $10. LOVING IT!!!

I wish it was as immaculate as you think. Overall it’s a great running truck. I DD it, so I’m constantly dealing with wear and tear. A very good tutorial! I have done this on several OBS trucks and highly recommend it. Most recently I did my first on a truck with a 300-I6. Here are several thoughts on this. First, many of these brackets from earlier E-Series vans will have the older style larger SAE sized AC compressor bolts (1/2", I believe). If you get one of these be sure to also get the mount bolts for your conversion. They will work with your compressor but you will need to drill out the mount holes in order to accommodate the 1/2" bolts rather than the 6 mm size the truck came with from the factory. Should you only be able to find a pre-serpentine belt van the bracket will still work but you will need to locate a serpentine style pulley for the Saginaw pump since the Ford C-II pulley has a different size hub so the pulleys are not interchangeable. You may also consider, regardless of your donor van, getting a new or rebuilt pump since any you find will probably be original and therefore already 30+ years old. Also, while you have the PS system open try to bleed out all the old fluid from the steering gear box. This is also a good time to add a screen or filter to the fluid return line.
@TheMinuteMasters Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Don!🤙 this is definitely one of my favorite mods for an OBS Fords. Good info on the bracket and bolt conversion. Hopefully somebody who needs that information, can get it in the comments as I often suggest they do for the straight six engines.

I’m not sure what causes the sound from the original pump. Supposedly you can fix the same back exchanging the power steering fluid with Mercon V transmission fluid. The Saginaw pump uses power steering fluid and as long as it’s at the correct level, it should be relatively quiet. The hose needed to adapt the Saginaw pump is the high pressure hose. It’s not the original hose. I don’t think there is a spiral piece either. Thanks man!

I have a '92 f150 with a 5.8 and a/c. Did the swap and the belt length i ended up using is 94.5" its just left of center on the "range" gauge on the tensioner, so a little snug but within range. I don't know why it is that way, must have a different sized pulley than stock on one of my accessories 94.75" would be better but couldn't find one. I also used type F atf in the pump because my steering gearbox had that in it already. If i were to do it over, flush and fill with ps fluid seems like the better option. Heard mixing ps fluid and atf may cause leaks with time. Belt pn# 945K6 low pressure hose pn# 13401407 Curly one on the crossmember used for cooling high pressure hose pn# 13401402 i needed to bend the curved part out a bit more to make it work, cheapest option though.
