@@1ridgy I no longer own this bike. I had to part with it because I couldn't stand the vibrations in the handlebars. The shifter often caused the gearbox to slam. the engine lacked flexibility at low revs. I finally opted for a 4 cylinder which corresponds more to my everyday use. I hope yours will satisfy you on all the points I mentioned and more.

Test road one of these last week and now am totally smitten with it! I can take or leave the TFT, so glad it has a 'Real Key' and I even like the white colour scheme. I do think that when it comes to buying my next new bike it will be this one! When I got back to the Dealer (Oxford Triumph) they showed me a Tiger 800 Xca that had been used by the guys at the factory, 2300 miles, matt green, a set of full Triumph hard luggage and in near show room condition for £8999!!! So tempted........

Between the expensive GT Pro & the « basic » model, in the middle, there is the very interesting GT model 😎😍🤗. For city, for asphalt, for going to work, for short & long rides, for 2 up, for twisties, for gravel & dirt roads, ... this GT model is doing the jobs perfectly 👍🏼. Im in love! I just test rode Tiger 900 Rally Pro. As a R1250GS owner, I have to say I was impressed with the Tiger 900 RP. It has lively motor with alot usable power. Handled very well, especially with a 21" wheel. Only minor "don't care for" issues are the TFT user interface and brakes. The TFT commands & controls were awkward and more thought could been put into the UI/UX design. The other quip is the initial bite on the front brakes. They work but do not have the sensitivity of the R1250GS brakes. All in all, it still an impressive bike, and 100lbs lighter than the GS.

Agree with your opinion on the TFT screen, it would be nice to see some modern bikes with dials. Dials seem to give the bike back it's mechanical charm, which is what appeals to so many bikers. You know what, id even go further to say that having physical dials and a tft screen as an optional extra would get my vote..

I have had mine since April. I have watched all your GT Pro series of videos. While I generally agree with your assessment (love the bike for sure) I am surprised you did not mention the rear brake in your cons. Under powered for this size bike and squishy in my opinion. Hard to fault the bike otherwise. By the way I am very tech savvy by nature and it took me many hours to get all the tech working properly but eventually I did win the battle. All the tech functionality works fine after you find your way through the distorted setup process.

@TriplePlay Sure thing, make sure you unpair your headset from the phone, like delete the pairing. Then proceed to pair the phone to the bike in the Bluetooth way. Then pair your helmet to the bike in the Bluetooth way. Both phone and headset must be paired to the bike for it to work as it should. My phone and headset connect everytime. However to play music the app of you choice must be active on the phone and I usually get the music playing via the phone first and then I can control it all day via the toggle. The only thing that doesn't work for me is the volume control tray, no biggie as I need it on full all the time anyhow. GPS also works very well, would've been great if they had incorporated a map display instead of just turn by turn, shame with all that screen real estate not to take full advantage of it.

Thanks for your amazing coverage of the Tiger 900. Since I'm moving, I was looking for something a little more manageable (smaller & lighter) than my FJR1300 and I really fell for the Tiger 900 GT Pro after a testride. But I only went on that testride because of your review of it, so thanks, loving the bike so far. I actually love the TFT, the RPM gauge isn't the best, but meh, and so far haven't had any connectivity issues with my phone. The vibrations on higher RPM is something to get used to, but I love the engine character a lot more than the inline fours and you can't have your cake and eat it, right ;)

The big deal breaker for me that ended with me buying another brand, was the T crank. Why they listen to the few who go off road insted of the 90+% of people who never go off road i'll never understand. But it was enough for me to go with a different bike. a shame really, because i did love just about everything else except the wheel dimensions. If it had the normal 3 cylinder crank and 120/70-17 front and 180/55-17 rear wheels, i'd be cruising around on a Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro today. Nice video👍🏻

"I'd just prefer to have a couple of dials" I think you speak for many of us. They look snazzy but the real reason motor manufacturers go down the digital route is that they are cheap and to be fair, don't weigh much. But analogue dials not only look better, I think the human eye/brain prefers them in terms of functionality.

I have to agree with you on the TFT dash. It's really a let down compared to the Beemer display. It reminds me of those crap 90's "Spectrum analyzer" displays you used to get on Technics stereos! As it's a digital display, Triumph could easily put out an update via the dealerships and bring out a new better display version. Other than that, I also agree on the Green paintjob on the Rallye Pro! I'd love to be in the position to buy one but alas, funds ain't what they used to be atm. But, maybe one day! Really good, balanced summary. No bike is perfect and you do buy with more heart than head - Whilst I love my Tiger 1200 I cannot disagree with the problems you found with it. If you love the bike you'll put up with the issues (there are paralells in other parts of life!) What is very helpful is your comments on the bluetooth phone issue/triumph app. Triumph charge around £250+ to supply and fit the module to upgrade the Tiger 1200. I was thinking about it but cannot see the point, better off using my phone in an ultimate addons case!

Hi Andy, i have just done 700 miles on my tiger 900 GT Pro in red. love the bike, but i do have a bit of advice. i bought the low seat @£178 when i spec'd my order and riding the bike home from the dealer i realized i had no heated seat. when i spoke to the dealer they told me afterwards that the low seat is not heated. i was a bit annoyed because my next question was to the dealer "where is the original seat that came with the bike?" They told me they had it at the dealership. so i explained as it came with the bike it belongs to me. when i collected it and put it on the bike the heated seat worked lovely. the advice is i am also 5'8 and a 30 inch leg. with the normal seat on the low setting i found no difference to the low seat except for the gap it leaves between the tank and the seat itself. lesson learnt. i am going to keep the low seat and use it in the summer period to save on wear and tear.

Ok reporting back on the findings of the start issue and the quick shifter. The start issue was a simple software tune update and now starts and idles as it should. The quickshifter was broken, apparently the connecting rod which attaches to the bottom of the quickshifter switch was wound out and only had about 1 1/2 turns of thread holding it in place so subsquently the switch was wobbling about on the tip of the rod and cause it to malfunction. The dealer replaced the switch from a brand new street tripple floor stock and now works better than ever. The downshifts were never great but now they are brilliant, upshifts too are also now awesome. When the QS is working as it should then makes this bike an absolute dream to ride.

pinkiewerewolf completely agree. A digital rev counter's a hideous thing; you can't 'glance' at a four-figure moving number the way you can at a clock. Bring back the good old dials. Such a shame to stick this arrangement on a bike that otherwise gets such a glowing review.

Hi Andy. I enjoyed your reviews and decided this was the bike for me. I went on line and configured the bike I wanted. Ready to buy, I went to the dealer for a test ride. I was gutted to say the least. The engine is awful. It sounds like the main bearings are going! the vides are terrible. It makes my Ducati feel smooth! The seat is hard and the bars are now too close to the rider. On the upside It looks very smart and the tech is great. I got on well with the TFT screen and the suspension adjustment. The screen is good and I was able to get a fairly buffet free position. I had a Tiger 800 for 5 years and covered 30K. I was hoping this would be the bike for me. Unfortunately not. Put the 800 motor in it and it would be close. Unfortunately Triumph are barking up the wrong tree with the T plane engine.

Regarding the basic vs GT/pro the key thing for me would be how much better (or not) the suspension/ride is - or can be with self adjustment. My 800 has a sweet gearbox so if the basic 900 is as good that it would do me. Better tft doesn’t seem a big addition. As others have said most other items are those you can add (e.g. heated grips and centre stand).

Another great video and very informative. I was going to stop at just that, but I can’t help myself. I have been able to test ride Triumphs from the Bonny up to the Trident ( but not the Thunderbird ). Now I’m nearly 64 and I think I have been riding since I was sperm. I agree with you about the gimmicky electrical stuff. Also what I don’t like about Triumphs these days in general. I know that the powers to be have to create a place in the market to survive, but it at the cost of now nearly being a metric bike. All that plastic might look good ( in some opinions ) but has taken away the raw look and feel that Triumph is known for. The gearing is so close together that you go from first to fifth ( sometimes 6th ) then you crank the life out of it to get up to highway speeds ( 110kph ). None of them felt like you sunk into the tar when changing gear. If you breakdown on the side of the road, you basically can’t do band aid repair jobs to get you home. I must admit the Speed Twin does get closer to what a Triumph use to feel like, but not quite there. When Triumph was at Meriden they made a great bike. Anyway that’s my grumble so thanks again from Down Under😎😎

would you compare the Street Scrambler 900 to the Tiger 900 ? or is this not a fair comparison ? I bought the SS 900 in February and it is a good bike for the limited miles I do. The Tiger 900 seems a great new addition to the Triumph line up a true tourer and as you say all rounder; glad shorties like us are catered for|! Some of us are under 5' 10'' LOL . What is the Tiger 900 economy ? What is the normal speeds mpg? Important in the UK as prices are a bit steep even though they got down to 99 per litre a month or two ago, they're creeping up again now.
@chriskay116
@chriskay116 4 жыл бұрын
I own a Street Scrambler, myself, and having enjoyed an extended test ride on a Tiger 900 Rally Pro, I can say that they are totally different animals. Whilst both are extremely competent, I was left feeling a little detached by the Tiger. It does everything supremely well, it seemed to be doing it "for me" rather than me being wholly in charge. If I needed to commute 50 miles each way, daily, then I would choose the Tiger, every time, but for that visceral thrill of being out on motorbike for its own sake, the Street Scrambler has the edge. I've got quite a few bikes and it's interesting that speed, or at least the perception of it, is all relative. I found that the Tiger allows you to cover ground very quickly but does so in an unflustered, but maybe not quite as thrilling, way.
@casperdog777
@casperdog777 4 жыл бұрын
@@chriskay116 I think you've nailed it. The SS 900 is what it is, I love mine. If I was using my bike all the time and this involved longer distance commuting or touring - no contest. I think the aspect of ''character'' is that certain Je ne sais quoi that a bike has or doesn't have. The SS 900 has ''it'' . No doubt. I used to have the Tiger 800 and I was very impressed and using the old Tiger 800 as a yardstick; if I needed to do longer distance regularly - no contest. But at the moment my SS 900 does fun and short commutes amazingly well; I have the impression if I were to go crazy and put some decent shocks on it and knobblies the SS 900 would surprise me off road. Asking MF to compare the new Tiger 900 and the SS 900 is unfair; they're apples and pears. But I would like to know what the Tiger 900 economy is like; on my old Tiger 800 (2013 model) the economy was not brilliant and I know Triumph did address this with later Tiger 800 versions.
