I almost never comment on videos but I have to say this is an excellent review (and I watch bike reviews all the time). I like how the video is segmented and I appreciate the exhaust sound under load and that the bike was tested with luggage. Very well done! You've got a new subscriber.

Good review Tony! I agree with almost all you said about the 900 GT Pro. I rode this bike a couple of months back and fell in love with it. It was only an hour test ride but I did not have any of the vibe issues you mentioned. Maybe just the bike you had? The screen was definitely an improvement over the 800 and the brakes were excellent! Not a fan of TFT screens but I could live with this one. If I had the funds I would get one tomorrow. Great review as always!

Thanks, i don't think thetyres help with the vibes. I should have made it clearer that the vibes weren't an issue, but they were noticeable compared to the 800. But then the pull on the 900 is much more noticeable than the 800 too

Thanks, yes its a good evolution. Given the investment in the My Triumph system I don't think they will go in that direction. To be fair it all works well and importantly the app is free, unlike some manufacturers

I luv my Tiger XCA😎. I've made quite a few modifications. BarkBusters, upper crash bars, longer gear lever, bar risers, lower footpegs lowered the gearing, changed the LED flashers so they don't break when the bike tips over, to name a few. The new bike seems to be an improvement and if my bike was stolen, god forbid, I would buy this bike. I don't feel inclined to upgrade. I use Google maps & Garmin for navigation Blue-toothed to my helmet, sort of needed on our backroads so the turn by turn on the display looks good but it wouldn't make me change bikes. Great review BTW.
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bernie, sound like you've made some great changes. A lot of people asked me if I was going to swap to the 900 when it was launched, and I'm of the same opinion as you. No I wouldn't change. (i've subsequently switched to a KTM 790 though) The 800 is still a fantastic bike, is this an improvement? yes I think it is, but it doesn't suddenly make the old one bad.

Good video :-D I had a ride of a Tiger 900 a couple of months ago , yeah very good. Coming from a Street and Speed Triple, I really do prefer the smoothness of a 120 degree crank triple. The T plane crank wasn't terrible, it is smoother than a twin, but not as smooth as a regular triple. I get it that they want the big bang torque to make it punchy, I just missed the smoothness.

Thank you Tony for another excellent review and personal look on this special bike. The Tiger was on my short list. but i took the Kawasaki Versys 1000 SE GT with the fastest electronic suspension because of my bad back. if i could not handle the weight of the Versys anymore, this Tiger would be my next choice. Thank you for your very informative video. Very slick and professional. I own a 900 GT Pro and It has exceeded my expectations. Regarding the vibration, it was present even tough not excessive above 130 Km/Hr. I now have 6,000 Km and it has completely gone. The engine is a lot smoother than the first 1,000 Km. It drives like a small bike and is really light compare to my previous Africa Twin.

Nice leap onto the bike. You got some jumpers. I'm not one for all the gadgetry, but I LOVE the way these new GPS work. Great review and pretty much echoes my own views; I've had the same model for the last 4 months here in Aus and love it. On the subject of the screen, I agree on the appearance, size and readability but its functionality leaves a lot to be desired in my view. The rev counter is woefully difficult to read and I find it takes too long to navigate to the information I want. The other issue is the clunky seat anchoring: it always feels slightly loose and not 100% secure. It is also tricky to refit after removal. Great review!
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I agree I think the TFT is a lovely thing, but maybe they missed a few tricks. The rev display with the moving background is more of a light show than a useful indicator, but at least there are alternatives.
@S2Wiley
@S2Wiley 2 жыл бұрын
That's a Triumph hallmark. The seat has a curved front tongue, not straight. So, lift the rear of the seat higher, "jam" it in, then lower the rear onto the footers. It's more of a scooping motion. IF the footers aren't a snug fit against the stops, the tongue isn't flush fitted between the height bars on the tank.

I own a Tiger 900 GT. Very well equipped & much cheaper than the Pro. So far i did 6600 km with it & i love it. Great adventure bike for commuting, traveling, riding sportively in twisty asphalted roads, but its also very good for riding on gravel roads & light/easy off-roads. One thing is sure: i will soon change Metzeler stock tires for Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR.

Rented that bike yesterday while the dealer is working on my Street Twin, Fantastic bike and an absolute blast for riding in cold conditions, its too bad about the sytle though, I'm more into the bonnevile line up. Would be cool if the Bonneviles take on some of the tech from the tiger, specifically the heated seat and automatic adjustable springs. Good to see that they added cruise control and heated grip to the T120 (though odd that they left it as optional for the T100 and Street Twin...)

Overall this video was really excellent and it was great to get a perspective from someone who owned the 800. I test rode the 800 back to back with the Street Triple (knowing they serve completely different purposes) and took the Street Triple home. Though the 900 made me curious, I think I'll stick with the ST3 a little longer. But I'm glad to hear you think the 900 is an improvement over the 800.

I have a 2014 800 XC and I am looking to upgrade. Not because I NEED to, but I think its time. I do a lot less off-road than I used to, and the GT Pro looks like a great option. The electronic suspension would be AMAZING, I seem to be always adjusting mine. I was looking a the BMW F750 GS, but I just really like my Tiger. So another Tiger might be the right option.
@mancavemoto

Its a lovely bike, and the electronic suspension makes a real difference if you are constantly switching from riding alone, to adding luggage or a pillion. If I were looking at a new Tiger it is probably the model i'd go for. With the right tyres fitted it would do enough of the offroad rising i'd personally need.

Thanks for the review, just a wee request: "can you kill the elevator muzak and leave the Triumph engine soundtrack in?" Can the ride be set up plush on bumpy sealed roads? So many bikes are fine on most roads but become bone-jarring over a few bumps!

Getting a decent recording of engine noise without any wind noise accompanying it is quite difficult. I filmed this with the intention of doing a voiceover commentary as opposed to speaking as I rode 'motovlog' style. When editing it, it sounded very flat with just the voice over and no other ambient noise. So added added some background music. it appears a few people don't like it! The recording for the exhaust sound was a specific set up, which wasn't conducive to filming the whole ride. Thanks for watching though

Great video 👍 I rode a 900GT Pro back in the summer and really wanted to like it but I found the vibration through the bars at higher speeds intrusive. It is worse than it is on my 1200 Scrambler at the same speeds. There's no way I could have ridden it at motorway plus speed for any length of time. Oh yes, and whoever designed the new TFT display wants sacking. The winged styling of the rev counter is very fussy and virtually unreadable. It's a 'no' from me

What a great review 👍I’ve owed this exact bike for 4 months and it’s brilliant , but your review is the only one to pick up on the tyres ! I’ve had a few bad experiences with them tram lining sometimes worst in wet conditions! I think it’s fine for me to say that I find the front tyre bordering on dangerous! I’ll replace the tyres ASAP . But other than that , the bike is amazing! it nearly keeps up with the fast gs guys but it’s not quite there . but plenty of power for me 👍
@gordonLP
@gordonLP 4 жыл бұрын
I have the same tram lining with my 900GT PRO, I also had it with my 800 XRX and affected both of the available makes of tyre , I think from the forums, its a problem with the tyre ratio's and that they have also used a CROSSPLY tyre instead of a Radial. There is an "Alternative" and its Road Pilot 4 which has slightly different ratio's. The problem being, it is not a Triumph approved tyre, and therefore would from the insurance point of view, be a modification, which might be a costly swap.Other than that, I really like this bike over the 800XRX. Cheers, Gordon

@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 4 жыл бұрын
PersonalIy, I don't think many insurance companies would have any issues with fitting 'non-approved' tyres. I'm fairly sure Triumph approve tyres as part of their homologation requirements as a manufacturer rather than the suitability to the bike?
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, having had them on a KTM 1050 I found these to be very similar in performance. The problem can be that sometimes (not neccesarily these ones) the OEM tyre is not the same as the 'general market' tyre of the same model. The bike certainly doesn't need any more power.

This review is well done; just like the bike, more substance than style, but sufficient style too. The question of potential buyers still lingers: Buy a discounted 800 or “invest” in the 900: do the differences in each bike justify the significant difference in price?
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yep its a tricky question. There are some cracking deals on the 800 stock at the moment, particularly if you can get stuff like luggage thrown in, and its a fantastic bike. Only the individual buyer decide if its worth the difference in the cost. It’ll be interesting to see as time goes by what happens to the used prices of the 800?

Really liked this review. I tested this bike a few weeks ago and recognised pretty much everything you say about it in this video. However, for me the vibes were a real issue, and given the price it was a deal breaker sadly. If Triumph had gone ahead with the production of a base version as they originally planned priced at just under £10k then I might have been tempted. Personally I think they have shot themselves in the foot with this decision.

Very accurate review. I've had my GTPro for 7000 miles and it's Swiss Army knife versatile. Light weight midsize do everything well. Triumph needs to improve: TFT real estate use, "online gamer" rev counter, disappearing odometer, finicky bluetooth. The "My Triumph" app is rudimentary. Esp. NAV. Underseat "phone case" too shallow. Triumph is not a software/tech company. ((NOTE: Perfectly capable off "PAVEMENT" ADV bike (double track dirt/gravel/fire road) with the right tires. I run Michelin Anakee ADV 80/20. The GTP is not off-ROAD. That's the Rally model.)) There is a noticeable vibration at around 4200rpm, which is only annoying if you get stuck there for extended periods. Bike loves to be short shifted like a twin and spooled up like a triple. I absolutely love the quick shifter, the cruise control, and ability to change suspension settings and mapping modes (Rain/Road/Sport) with the flick of a thumb. (You must stop for Off-Road, and the bike returns to ROAD mode if you shut it off. This is to enforce rider decision to deliberately turn off off TC/ABS. ) I average just shy of 50mpg in mixed riding (mtn passes, commuting...), range of 225-240 miles despite the 50T (same as Rally) rear sprocket. The bike is comfortable and super maneuverable at low speeds for an ADV. Enjoy Yours.

Hi good review lots for information. My question is it’s value for money with this machine ? If you compared with other 900 cc brand such as Yamaha tracer 900gt , Bmw 900 xr and Kawasaki . Looking forward for great advice . Cheers
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yes value for money is always a hard thing to compare as different people have different ideas of whats important. The Tracer 900 GT comes in at £11,200 and includes side carriers, but for example doesn't have the electronic preload or heated seats etc. But it does look like a well priced bike for the spec. The BMW comes in at £9800, but the price soon jumps as you spec it up. It would be fairer to compare the base Tiger 900 at £9,500. Its all about weighing up what features and spec are important to you and going from there. Plus there will always be a bike you prefer riding regardless of spec.

Great review! I am considering this bike as first and made a test ride at our local dealer. I have one question in mind although. Do you know if it is possible to adjust first gear free speed to fall below 12 Mph, because I find it a little bit annoying jumping from learn bike Kawasaki Er6n which made a free speed without touching the throttle bar of around 6 Mph?
@baar_nii
@baar_nii 3 жыл бұрын
I doubt this is something you can just 'adjust'. It comes down to the different engines and their power. You got to have to learn not to rely on such things with heavy bikes such as the Tiger 900 anyway.
@excellent886
@excellent886 3 жыл бұрын
@@baar_nii Thanks! I made second test ride on Monday and discovered that in sport mode speed is at 12 - 13 Mph but in road mode is 9 mph. Probably in rain mode it falls more. As for the weight after 40 miles of riding find this bike as very nimble and responsive with great weight distribution which makes it feel lighter than it is. After all said ordered one and hope to not regret it. Fingers crossed. :)
@Eric-eh5bp
@Eric-eh5bp 2 жыл бұрын
I agree, first gear is far too tall and 6th is too short. I'd like to go down 2 or 3 teeth on the rear sprocket to bring down the revs at 70 mph and quell the vibration a bit, but that would make the first gear problem worse. since the bike is intended for light off-road use, the choice of a tall first is confounding.

I was thinking of getting the Tiger 900 for longer trips and motorways but am not sure that I could get it through the ultra dense Paris traffic as easily.
