A correction in one of the numbers I gave is needed: The rear suspension travel of the XR is 172mm and not 150mm as I stated in the video at 5:25.

A very fair review Scott. I've had a 900GT for almost a year now, I absolutely love it. I average around 60mpg, so get around 240 miles out of a tank. Screen is good, seat is good. In all honesty, if I was buying a new bike tomorrow, I would buy the 900GT again 👍

@@NothingToProve I've just come back from a 170 mile morning ride around Snowdonia in North Wales, lots of twisties and rain. It performed impeccably. Oh and I averaged 62.4mpg. Very fair review, as always. I still like my XR and can live with its imperfections. However, that being said, BMW needs to refine the bike. For the price, any bike that is 10K plus should be( in my humble opinion) damn near perfect. I've been riding and occasionally racing motorcycles for over 40 years now and coming from a no frills beginning I can tell you that today's motorcycles and tires are light years ahead of anything dreamed of back in 1978! My biggest problem with the Tiger and the Tracer is the modern-bug-like look. I simply can't get used to much of the new styling that accompanies many of the newer models. I can't help it...I'm retro! Cheers Scott!

Interesting review. For me I like the low end torque. I love the feeling of the power pulses coming on down low, right off of the idle. The 17in front wheel on the xr vs the 19 on the triumph combined with the slightly lower fork stroke would result in the XR being a more nimble motorcycle and more planted bike on a twisty paved road at a spirited pace. If it were me I'd sort out the rear brake on the XR and keep it. Having said that, follow your heart Scott, that Triumph is a nice motorcycle, life is short.

Thanks for reviewing and comparing the Tiger 900! The whine of the engine is annoying but the smooth intuitive handling makes up for it. One thing you may not have noticed on the GT is the vibration in the bars and foot pegs. After a few hour, it can lead to tingling fingers and leg fatigue. Another factor that may be important to some is a low options. The Tiger has a GT Low, which I own. The BMW also has a low version but I don't think the Tracer does. Scott, you always have great videos, full of very useful information and evaluations. Thanks!!

Excellent once more, and a great resource for those in the market. Like yourself it seems, I do have a liking for torque over hp (which is what weds me to my GS), but having ridden both the XR and Tiger 900 I'd have to agree with all of the points you have made. For me, whilst the XR is a solid machine, I just felt less cramped and more comfortable on the Tiger - it was the one that I wanted to go back to. For what it's worth, I also prefer the looks. I can see your interest has been raised with this bike, so I look forward you to testing the KTM and Ducati options before you commit:-)

Hi Scott. Great review yet again. I have a Rally Pro in green which I use 98% on road. Very plush with the longer-travel suspension, and the bigger front wheel gives me no issues when cornering. Goes and handles really well, and the build quality is solid. Only downside for me has been severe butt-ache after an hour or so in the saddle, but I’ve cured this with a ComfortAir seat pad (BLISS 😎), making it an all-day pleasure. @NothingToProve3 жыл бұрын
There are many idiots on youtube, including this idiot...me :) Some guys just like to complain about something if they can't find anything cause it gets views. And no, the vibration is not bad at all, normal for an in-line 3 cylinder...and this is coming from a guy that owns a 2 cylinder (which is worse than this). ride safe, Scott

Great review Scott although for me the Tiger is for a different usage than the BMW F900XR or the Tracer 900 GT. The ability to go offroad comes with a trade-off which the BMW and the Yamaho do not need to compromise for. First, a larger front tire means it is not as nimble and direct when carving through the Californian canyons. Second, a cushier suspension feels good on many roads but allows more fork diving which takes away the feel for the road and can be detrimental for a sporty spirited driving style. Try to keep up with Uli's GS in the Alps on the Tiger. I'm sure you will notice the lack of torque and horsepower compared to the other two bikes. I own a F 900 XR for over a year now and I put $12k miles (19,200km) on it. Without some mandatory aftermarket parts (Wunderlich seat, SC-Project exhaust, Hornig riser), I would not have enjoyed it as much as I did. On the quick-shifter topic, I was surprised how mine has gotten better over time, even still over the last few thousand miles. In the beginning, I did not use it because it was hard to shift. Now I'm almost exclusively shifting w/o clutch from 2nd to 6th and down and loving it. The ergonomics are just the best on the BMW although the TFT display is a tick smaller than the Tiger's TFT. In your video, it seemed that the Tiger TFT has more glare than when I compare it with my BMW.

I realize it’s a dated blog, but I’m going for the GT Pro in the spring and I’ve watched all these vlogs numerous times. I’ve been a dedicated mtb rider for 30 some odd years, forsaking my motorcycle roots. Let’s talk suspension for a moment. On my Fox forks when you dial back compression for more compliance you need to go the other way with your rebound and ramp it up or your forks just pack up. I could be way off base with the GT Pro’s Marrzoccis but you might check it out,

But getting to the point, if I had to choose again between the 3 of these bikes, today I would not buy the XR, I'd take the Tiger GT Pro. ride safe, Scott

Hi Scott I’m on the verge of buying the 900XR I was almost going to buy the tiger but I am not going to go off road much maybe once a year mostly city and highway rides! Is the XR worth it? As this will be my first big bike.. Thank you for your time.. I found your videos by researching XR and omg you know your audience will be waiting for more from you!!

The Tiger almost seems like a good choice for someone choosing between a bmw gs and rt. I kinda like it. 👍

I guess an XR sits right between the GS and the RT

I have the RT and the S1K . . . . . as I'm coming up to my late 60s', this has me considering loosing the S1K in favour of the 900GT.

Hi Scott, Greg here. I looked at a Tracer GT, a few days ago, at the Power Sports dealership, in Buford, Georgia. I'm the proud owner of a 2013 Fjr1300a. I've had my bike for eight years, and have, going on 57,000 miles on it. I love my Fjr, and have taken extended multi-day trips on it. It's great. However, I'm going to be sixty-one years old next month, and am considering getting a bike that's lighter, at least as comfortable as my Fjr, and capable on the highway. The one concern I have, is the "instrument" package, on the Tracer. Specifically, being able to see it. BTW, I'm really glad you mentioned that, because it's something that's easy to overlook. Enjoying your reviews, but would like to see a little more emphasis on the travel and carrying capabilities. Is it a bike that you feel would be at least as comfortable on multi 500 mile days ?

Greg, I sold my 2007 FJR1300 a few years ago since I seldom rode it. The top heavy weight and garage maneuvers was getting to be a little bit much. But I was looking for a bike to take extended trips since I met some riding friends and found a 2019 Tracer 900 GT in April for a great price. After a VStream large windscreen upgrade, it is almost as quiet and more upright comfortable than the FJR. Plus, the side bags are the same style, which I think is some of the best looking made. And at 65 years young, the 50 or so pounds lighter than the FJR is appreciated. I can live with dealing with the chain and sprockets as opposed to a shaft drive. I went on a four day trip in June with two FJR riders and one of them has already bought a more upright bike. The Tiger does have some good features, though…

13600 km of happiness in one year with my Tiger 900 GT (not the Pro). I ride 70 % on asphalt & 30 % on gravel & forest roads with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires. I am still in love with my bike (with my wife too 😘). Would i buy another Tiger 900 GT: yessir.

As always, great video, excelent analysis!.. love that bike.. I would also appreciate your analysis of the middleweight you mentioned Vstrom 650, NC750X.. also the Versys 650 (you already have a video on it) and the Tracer 7. Thanks!
