In the 80´s / 90´s we had the proper 125cc´s machines. I owned several and they go side by side with the "big" 600´s thumpers - those where the days. However this GSXR125 is a good choice for a young rider or frequent daily runs (home-work-home). As usual, a very good review.

I’ve had this bike since late April this year, and I’ve got to say, I’ve not experienced the first two issues you pointed out, although I do have my own issues. Namely, sometimes it can be a bit stiff to shift up as the gear pedal sometimes seems to have more resistance than perhaps it should. This only happens every so often however. As well as that, an issue I have personally is that I can’t actually turn the bars to a full lock, since the end of the bar will hit my knee unless my foot is particularly far back on the peg. Even if that wasn’t the case, though, there’s still the issue of having no room for my hand if I go full lock, as even with the dimple there’s very little space. Despite these issues though, the bike is great. It’s sturdy and quick for what it is, and I’m glad it’s the one I chose to buy. I’m pretty light, but it’s also worth noting that I’ve managed to take it to an indicated 89 mph.

GOOD AND FAIR REVIEW I CURRENTLY OWN THIS BIKE. IN THE BLUE MOTO GP RACE COLOURS THE LOCAL GARAGE WANTED TO SELL ME A USED ONE FOR £3550 HOWEVER AFTER A FEW CALLS I HAD PURCHASED A BRAND NEW ONE FOR £3600. ( £50 more ) This is much better than my first 125. Which was a Pre ABS 14 plate Yamaha YZF R125. Personally I must admit that the Yamaha did look more nicer and better. But its overall height and seat position Was too high for me and lacked the FULL digital display features such as Gear positions also not as clear or easier to read display. I personally think this is one bike I can fully recommend for short riders. With such high recommendations and reviews How could I refuse buy , own and recommend this bike.

125’s have certainly come on a bit over the years. I bought a Yamaha TZR 125 in 1987, my first brand new bike, which if memory serves cost me £1300 pounds. Rode the pants of it and ahem, tweaked the YPVS so it made full power. Unfortunately it was T-boned by a myopic Ford Cortina driver whilst on my way to see my girlfriend. 😢

Great reviews TMF! I've just been doing that thing of looking up reviews of the bike I already bought lol. I bought the S version for commuting in Australia. For me (6'5") I was just too tall for the R version, and for commuting it seemed like overkill really. I still look like an ape on the S version, but it's comfortable, fun (it's the same bike without the fairing and raised bars), and insanely cheap. I get a realistic 3l/100km on my commute, which gives it a range of a bit over 300km, meaning I only have to fill up once per week, which is an underrated bonus on a commuter bike. I will say the S verion is f-ing ugly though. I'm currently looking into the possibility of swapping out that hideous alien headlight, which looks fine on the R version, but yeah, ugly stick time on the S, but mods are a taking a while for these bikes lol. The fastest roads on my commute are 60mph, so this bike is perfect really, and compared to my main bike (Tiger 800), it's just so much cheaper. The on the road price was $3800, which I believe is about 2070 british pounds.. so not really sure what's going on with the UK pricing, or if that's good/bad there? Only other negative I'd add in is that the exhaust system is a single unit to save weight, so you have no option but to go full system exhaust if you want to mod that, and it is very quiet as you say in another vid. I know full system are in style nowadays, but there may still be some people hoping to use a slip on to improve the sound whilst not removing the cat, so just good to know I guess. Definitely agree on the seat though - already added an aftermarket to mine lol

Commenting on some of the bad points you mention with my own experiences of owning a white 2018 model: 1) First and second gears on my GSXR I usually start revving to 3-4k and upshifting to 3rd which seems to me to be perfectly fine, the bike will easily do 15MPH-25MPH at that range. I've yet to ride a bigger bike so maybe I'm just not used to pure power in the low gears haha! 2) On my bike, the gearbox occassionally throws me into N from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 1st even when really going for it as you mentioned, very strange! 3) A lot of reviewers have said they've cheaped out on lots of parts, not sure, for me it's my first bike and I'm happy with how everything is as standard but maybe. A beautiful bike in my eyes but could certainly use some OEM parts to really help improve the look, such as the indicators for sure haha! 4) The Dunlop tyres are very good in wet weather in my experience, only once have I ever felt the back start to slide and that was on a roundabout with some grit/dirt laying down, easy enough to correct and haven't had any problems personally. 5) I'm 5'11 and the bike is very small when compared to bigger bikes and even the YZF-R125, one of the only downsides to the bike in my opinion. Even when fully tucked, you'd struggle to get yourself low enough unless you're a smaller rider, the extension to the windshield doesn't really help either. On your good points: 1) I have personally easily reached 72MPH at 9,000RPM, there's more in there but not willing to speed to try. Don't have a private track! ;) 2) I refuel every 1.5 to 2 weeks depending on how far I ride, the stated 122MPG isn't far off, personally my record is 117MPG from full tank to reserve! Definitely very economical, you're looking at weekly £7-8 in petrol at £1.19p/L here in the North West and about £13 for a full 11L fillup! 3) Keyless ignition is supposedly quite a bit more secure to theft but the bike has a glaring issue, if you leave the keyless in the standard "Up" position at 12 o'clock. Even if you're not within 1.5m, the bike can actually be started and there goes your bike. Something to remember for sure! I love the feature and it's something I want when I move up to a bigger bike! 4) The brakes work very well as you mentioned, even a single wavy disc although it looks like it won't do much for stopping power and people have scoffed at, is enough to stop you from 50-0 within a reasonable distance. 5) At 3499, the special discount price I bought the bike for, I believe it is definitely the best 125cc sports bike on the market. The YZF is an amazing machine from what I've seen but way too expensive. Even at full price, 4099 vs 5000 is quite a difference, enough to pay for my yearly insurance! Thank you for the review and love your channel TSF! Looking forward to more content!

Something which has come up in conversation among my peers. We would love to have TMF T shirts but is it wise for men of our age to wear T shirts with "hey kids" emblazoned on them? Just a thought, may be misconstrued ! Comments please.....

The “hey kids” one is a one-off special to annoy the hey kids haters - most of the shirts in my T Spring shop don’t say that....so you can spare your embarrassment....

Great shame it's not comfortable, I did long days on my 125 'cruiser' but eventually got bored with it's 8.5 hp. Maybe one day we will have the magic 15 ish hp on one to give it a year more subjective life or so, but I doubt it.

I do wonder if the people making up the licence restrictions realised 11kw on a manufacturers spec sheet is at the crank not the wheel, a 110kg bike with that at the wheel would be plenty for most people for the road (UK at least).

I wish you'd stop calling it a budget bike. £4k is a lot of money to the target audience of the bike. It's only a budget bike when you compare it to bigger bikes. You don't call a fiesta 1.0 a budget car, it's just less expensive than a mondeo 2.0. Cos its a different tool to do a different job

Payed £700 for ybr custom(black), yh it had been dropped but not badly speedo isnt true but use my phone. Originally i wanted a suzuki van van an swap front tyre for a fat one add panniers, lower exhaust but too expensive, standard ybr i could get for £1000-1500, for a bigger bike 650cc £1500 upwards.

Hello TMF. I have no reason to doubt what you say on your bike reviews. @6:51 you mentioned you'd be "quite tempted". Now this I do doubt. Knowing what bikes you own and what you use them for, I can't for the life of me think where a new 125cc would fit into the stable or cover a gap in function that your other bikes don't do. I am lost on your view that you need a 125cc pretend sports bike. Come to think of it, unless you need a 125cc for certain track classes, who does need such a bike?

In Australia motorcycle are only like 5 characters long and soo its about 18(L)x10cm, and our cars standard number plate only have 6 characters lol.(if you have alot of money and lucky you can probably can find a single digit number plate xD)

I don't understand it ! Get a 250 street and trail and learn to ride . Then keep your trail bike and get something a bit more exciting unless you are completely in love with dirt bikes by this time . In which case get more serious about a CRF 450L or a KTM 350,500 OR EVEN 690 .

@@TheMissendenFlyer I forgot to say I wachtched only videos in german language (Germany, Swizerland and Austria), sorry. I do not know wy this was not a subject in german bike tests. In earlier times I had the Honda CBR 125 R. And the first two gears were there bad too. I think I have to try the GSX 125 by myself. In my opinion a perfect gearbox should be standard today. Nice weekend, Manfred, Germany.

I think it's a stupid choice for a new rider.As a new rider you will fall off.It's all part of learning.On a naked bike hardly any damage will be done.On a bike with a fairing it will mark very badly or crack.Then an expensive repair.I have a young friend who bought Honda's version of this bike.he dropped it on a slow corner and it cracked the fairing.
@Spikycloud
@Spikycloud 6 жыл бұрын
The problem is these bikes are just too expensive, learners are likely to trade up within a couple of years and would be better off buying a second hand 125. Of course if everyone takes this approach then the market will collapse and Suzuki et al will stop making 125s..
