I'm always envious of the beautiful roads of the UK, but if there's one thing there's no shortage of here in Canada, it's dirt roads... heck, some of our urban streets become off-road trails from being ripped up by snow ploughs!

I head over to Salisbury Plain a few times over each summer. I camp in Berwick St.James and do full days all over the plain. There is a mix of paths, but most of it is set up for vehicles, so its wide, mostly well drained and maintained roads. There are some more technical 'off road' play areas. Basically buy the OS maps (or download the app), and crack on. If the flags are flying then you can't go through the middle bit of the range. Nice guys in pick up trucks will give you a nudge if they think you are going off piste (Search for SPTA online for dates of when they close the middle bit0. IT can get windy at the top. Some parts are wildly rutted chalk, kryptonite for me, so I skip it in the wet. A really nice track the is the old drove road that heads west from Salisbury. Goes for miles and miles and has wonderful scenery, and loads of pubs just a short distance off the track. I've done 5-6 days there and still find new routes every time I go.

Not been on my CRF450L but it looks pretty dull, Thetford forest is a real blast, sandy and lots of fun, hardly any bits like the plains gravel super-highways (I was in the army, know it well) Come up and do the Peddars Way, quite simple for a beginner like yourself and there are bits you can get ya drone out! We can even start at Crazy Horse and have some grub before we go. Cheers for the vid Andy.

Nice to see you back on the trusty CRF. I. Absolutely love this little bike. So much fun in it’s SM version for city commuting. Nothing comes close in that environment and I’m assuming it’s as much fun off road for “normal” folk when sporting off road tires. I’m so afraid of gravel on a middleweight or over bike but generally ok on this little bike. Feels light and similar to a motorised bicycle generally, which is great.

TMF and C90 Adventures are two of my favourite 2 wheel channels, and considering the last couple of videos, it’s extraordinary how each rider is the such the extreme opposite of the other! TMF fastidiously planned and executed dawdle around Salisbury strictly adhering to all of the rules and C90’s “Oh crap, I’ve accidentally ridden into Venezuela after riding across a Colombian desert for a laugh even though it’s in completely the wrong direction”. Interview with Ed?

Just that you have such potential there with that 250L and I think you'd be surprised at how easy those side trails are once you hit them. Smash em TMF 👍

It was my bit of peace and tranquility on the way to work and on the way home. Although I was on the to work as the sun was just rising (so peaceful) and as I approached a load of trees to the side of the track I massive flare was set off and scared me half to death! I didn’t realise that a group of Army people were camping in there. When I arrived at work my clothing had more than mud all over it 😆

Suggestion time:Put a Shock Saver in the middle of your front shocks. Can be a piece of wood which sits between tyre and mudguard(Clamps).Stops compression of shocks and movement of bike.Go to any Off rd store and I'm sure they will have one.Very useful for not messing up shocks and stability while travelling.Cheers.

I thoroughly enjoy your videos, slightly off topic, but your videos went a long way in helping me with my decision to buy an Enfield Interceptor 650 (Honour Blackone). Now you are doing the same regarding my quest for a little “Traily” to use on roads and in weather conditions I wouldn’t take my Interceptor. Back in the day I had a couple of Yamaha DT175’s , and went all over on them, in all weathers. They were great in the snow ! The little CRF250L just looks a fun bike. I record all my rides, uploading to YT, mainly for my wife and I to enjoy, but make them public in case anyone else wants to watch. I think, living here on the North Lancashire/Cumbria border, I am ideally placed to have fun exploring places I wouldn’t normally go, and produce some (hopefully) entertaining videos in the process. I am currently looking at a 2015 CRF250L. Fingers crossed the deal comes good. Thanks Andy, I for one, appreciate all you do !

Great entry level road and loads of it by the look, also awesome to see some more of your famed English countryside! Also big +1 on the cameras getting broken by vibrations - in another life I was one of those Genius Bar monkeys and we saw that all the time. It’s not just motorcycles, but also bicycles. Most people by 2020 have an old phone, I recommend using that on your bars rather than your pride and joy. Not sure why they had to replace the phone though. Maybe their phones have gotten even more unrepairable, but it doesn’t seem to me the internals have really changed too much in design from when I was doing the repairs and at least up until 2015 they could replace the camera module. Whole phones were just if you damaged the back outer casing/camera window (that’s on a 5 or later, 4’s were built the other way round), liquid damage or really did some major damage (saw a few phones come back from Afghanistan a little worse for wear!). But yeah my advice would be if anyone gets the same issue and gets told they have to replace the whole phone to push back a little. It could have changed, but at the same time training for people actually interacting with you at the Genius Bar isn’t the best and they have a lot of targets to meet.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Perhaps you could consider doing some “a day in the life of” vlogs, based on dealership personnel, and the challenges they face or the tricks they play, or in depth views on bike brands and what’s good and bad about them, and what might they be looking to do in the future. It’s always good to get independent opinions on accessories, tyres, etc and you are very constructive when you do this. These are just my thoughts, but hopefully they are constructive enough for you to consider. Thanks

Go to rural France. There's hundreds and hundreds of kms of open byways here. No need for any special permissions or anything like that. Need to watch for the Chasse in autumn/winter but otherwise just be insured and you're good to go. Basically all land not explicitly marked as Prive (private) is open to everyone. I can see 3 tracks like this just from my bedroom window and they are are about 40km long.

Very timely video. My iPhone XR camera went haywire last week. Been using a quad lock on my tiger 800 for thousands of miles with a ram mount, however I suspect the problem is I bought a new mount for my Speed Twin that goes straight on to the handlebars which obviously subjected it to more vibes, and 1500 miles on the Speedie have killed it. It still works fine occasionally thankfully so can still get some shots.

I'm amazed it changes it must run off the gearbox. Front a rear wheel would be better I'm always changing my gearing. On the 250 you really need 13/48 off road and 14/43 on road. One tops out at 65mph the other 93mph if it will pull it's basically. 50mph@5k 70mph@7k etc... In 6th won't really get a 250cc single to rev above 9,,300 rpm

@@TheMissendenFlyer just tie down close to the head to reduce leverage and also those small webbing straps with the two loops. . One loop goes through the other to sinch around the bars not just loop over. Just saying from experience on years of lashing bikes done in the back of 4x4s in the back of pickups in South Africa. What can happen is that you hit a big bump and the bike/trailer bounces and this adds leverage to the bars

You entered the plain at Castelry Vedette and rode along the northern perimeter road, that is not on the plain, the perimeter road is always open, the problem you had with the route you chose is by turning off where you were it is all restricted impact areas and only open on bank holidays. Also Imber is not in the middle of the plain, if you had kept riding on the perimeter road for a few more miles you would have reached Imber village, although that is also closed except for bank holidays. You need to be aware that not all bye roads are always open, the MOD can swap them around to suit their selves. I only live a few miles north of Redhorn Vedette and, where you stopped to show us the map app, if you would like any more info before coming back just ask me, I may be able to help.

Salisbury reminds me of the album by Uriah Heep with the beautiful song Lady in Black. There aren’t many dirt track in NL that are free for motorcycles. This leads to a lot of irresponsible and completely illegal riding through nature reserves. Reminds me of the beautiful Harz region in Germany. Better use a (Garmin) gps which can handle all the vibrations. You can load several types of maps and load your own routes, you made before with Basecamp on your pc. You don’t have to stop at every junction tomeloos where to go. The gps will tell you before.
