Noraly, I'm 70yrs young and I turned to the X300 Versys from 750 & 1000cc Aprilia's in 2018. Haven't regretted it one bit. I'm having a ball touring with it. This summer with a friend I went to Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado. Averaged 64 mpg. Never wanted more power, stayed away from interstates. Your going to love it. Looking so forward to seeing you again. God bless you. On the rear shock, try HyperPro, not that expensive. I got one for my X300, much improvement.

Greetings from Texas, I found you about a week ago (Sept. 2022) and have been binge watching Season 1, 2 and 6. I'm not a motor cyclist but I can't stop watching Loraly's exploits around the world. She is amazing in her own right but taking us along on her KZbin video journey reveals the best of her. I am 80 and I feel like I am her phantom sidekick enjoying the world and her amazing personality. Many have said she should be recognized as a world ambassador and I agree. Thanks for being the delightful influence that you always seem to be. I'll be watching. Best wishes Loraly and "Let's go".

As you make your way north, to Alaska, having lived there for 27 years I can highly recommend a publication called the "Milepost". I'm not sure if they have an electronic edition yet, and the hardcopy may be a bit large for your travels, but the nice thing about this book is that it has information about every "road" in Alaska, mile by mile. Things such as points of interest, fuel (as you've seen from your travels, fuel is not always available when and where you need it), lodging etc.. I am so envious of your adventures and am enjoying traveling along with you on your life journey.

You can't go wrong with a Honda in my opinion. Started out 50 years ago on a Honda CT70 then to a ST90. I've been riding the same Honda XL250R since 1984 that I bought new and it has over 20,000 kilometers on it. It's never once failed me or failed to go where I wanted to go. A couple years ago I added another Honda when I purchased a new XR650L and it's been amazing. Relatively light weight and powerful as far as I'm concerned. I use it for trail riding as well as longer distance trips. A trip to Alaska would be awesome so I hope you make it this time! I also think riding the TAT (Trans America Trail) would be awesome. The bike shop you purchased Alaska from has a huge inventory. In Oregon where I live the local Honda dealer is basically out of bikes and has no idea when they will get any. They are struggling with spare parts too due to supply chain problems. Man I hope this mess gets straightened out soon. I look forward to living vicariously through your videos! Keep up the great work.

Have had Hondas since the early 80s. From CD, XR, MTX, VFR, CBR and VTS. The best there is! Tried other brands like Yamaha (better now than 20 years ago, perhaps even very good) and would not touch Euro or American bikes even if I got one free. Honda all the way and never in all my years been let down. After the NC750X DCT at the moment as it is perfect for my needs. Wouldn't mind Noraly's latest but the Rally is not sold in South Africa. She is a clever girl and I believe the 300L Rally is the best adventure bike a single rider could buy (public). Now for my 'Honda Wings" tattoo....

The mosquitos and black-flies will all go to the stump and leave you alone. For actual insect repellant, they used "Muskol" or a home-made recipe made with bear grease and native herbs. Great bike, indeed! Powerful and light, good choice! Noraly, you certainly get tons of unwanted suggestions, so forgive me if I add a piece of advice, based on my experience. I have had a severe problem with the front suspensions of my Africa Twin; it's really easy to enter dust and sand inside and they suddenly start to loose fork oil that goes directly on your brakes; and of course it will happen in the worst place (at the end of the Patagonia, on a mountain road, in my case). So it's really important to cover that forks with some cross/rally "socks" (my Africa now wears the Fork Saver made by an Italian firm). Hope to be useful! Have a great and awesome trip!

Good recommendation. But, they're your kidneys🙂 You'll know by SoCal if you need shocks, and they'll have right kind there. Also, last story I read going across Isthmus of Panama involves shipping your vehicle by boat around it! I've never done it though, you must have good info, we all hope.

I have to second Remy’s comment. Whoever told you have have to increase ride hight is just wrong. You don’t need a top of the line Ohlins or WP, plenty of good shocks on the market. Get a good suspension tech to set your spring rate and damping. The down side is you’ll want to replace the forks springs to match the new shock. Also second Robert’s comment, if you get to So-Cal plenty of people who can get things set up for you, not the same owner but LE Suspension used to do great work for me. OTOH, maybe you shouldn’t, you embarrassed enough male egos with stock suspension on Savanna. We’re sensitive you know.

1:25, I can't agree more about the weight issue. All these people who fantasize about riding Back Country on a BMW GS1250 are in for a shock when they drop it (and they WILL drop it, sooner or later) & have to pick it up.

Kudos for choosing a practical machine for your travels, and not getting suckered by expensive "adventure" machines and complicated farkles. There are suspension experts in the states who can build you a shock to your loads and legs. A word of advice about Alaska: Winter sets in about mid-October, and doesn't thaw until about mid-June. Yes, there could be a sudden thaw in Mid-May with summer-like weather and birdies chirping. On the flip side there could be a blizzard blow in from the Aleutians. Note that when it's suitable for motorcycling, there will be serious mosquitoes everywhere north of about Prince George, BC. Alaska sourdoughs will confirm that mosquitoes are the unofficial Alaska state carnivore.

I had joined up with you in Central Mexico until you were at the Arctic Ocean. Now I have come back to the beginning of Season 6 to see what I have missed. Like your new bike, Alaska! Always, safe travels to you, Noraly

Excellent choice, “almost” the one I thought you would pick, the 300L. But I realize the Rally might make more sense for your needs; more gas, a windscreen, and a bit of fairing. My hope was that Honda had been watching you, and would offer you one for free, but alas, that is their missed opportunity, it would have been SO nice of them. Anyway, I'm sure the Rally will work out the best for you. I was actually surprised that you didn’t upgrade the tires, and I’m happy you didn’t. The IRCs performed great for me on the used 2017 CRF250L I bought last summer. I wore them out and just recently changed them, they are louder, and the difference in handling is minimal! (Dunlop 605 rear, Pirelli MT21 on front)

Why give her a free one when they are getting the exposure at her expense, should put a custom Itchy Boots wrap on it as some makers did with their tools, ie painted them black.

If you find the suspension "soft" now, you'll probably find that when you load it up with your luggage & kit, you'll sink a bit, in which case the improved suspension system which might make it 'taller' will be compensated for by the weight of your static load.
@ckost23082 жыл бұрын
That was my thoughts exactly. The upgraded suspension will be taller, but with the added weight of the luggage and gear, the weight would bring the suspension back down to a usable height, hopefully to allow Noraly to be able to flatfoot the bike without difficulty. She is incredible! Ride safe Noraly, God be with you on your travels! 😇
@fabiopunk16612 жыл бұрын
yes, however you still have to lift your leg over the saddle! I have a GS and while appreciate the long suspension travel, I almost curse every time I get on and off because of the climb I need to make - I am 182 cm....
@JeanMarcVANBELLE2 жыл бұрын
i would stay with the original suspension. They are new and better is to replace them after some 60.000 tot 120.000 km only… Good luck from Bulgaria.

Great choice of bike 👍 Hyperpro are only an hours drive from Utrecht. They do shock absorbers with height adjustment. I managed to lower my 250 Rally seat by 5 cm by shaving the foam and some of the plastic feet from the base. Its just as comfortable as before. These two things make a huge difference and you will enjoy the bike even more on your next adventure . The suspesion work makes offroad riding so much more enjoyable and safer.

Yes suspension upgrades are nice :) in the video I explain my reasons for not doing that at this moment though :)
@danielb21453 жыл бұрын
No you need a proper padded seat, if you shave your seat it will become uncomfortable on long days. That bike is perfect, you'll be happy on it.
@davidroberts74903 жыл бұрын
@@ItchyBoots yeah I am sure it will be fine for you until you get time to upgrade 👍 There is a very easy and cheap mod for your exhaust though ( i know you like a louder exhaust ) I will try and find the link.

Noraly-- I just got my fork seals done on my WR250F and I think it would be a good idea for both of us to use Velcro secured fork boots to keep the grit off the fork tubes. They can be removed and rinsed off and are inexpensive. Also, if you go through Utah you might try to get together with fellow KZbinr Everide for a backcountry tour. I'm guessing he would be happy to collaborate.

So delighted to hear: "Welcome back to the Channel". YES!! Back to S.A. Wonderful news. A minor correction, because motorcycles have personalities as reflected in Basanti, Dhanno, Ronin and Savannah, they are a "stable" not a nautical fleet. For a name,.. I was thinking, heading north toward the Aurora Borealis.. name choice "Aurora" seems perfect. But Ms. Alaska is lovely.
@michelparent83923 жыл бұрын
I too prefer Aurora to Alaska. Because of Noraly's destination, we will hear the word Alaska often enough and having a bike by the same name will become repetitious and confusing at times.

Great choice! O purchased a 300L for TET riding and I love it. And yes, the rear shock is a weak point and needs to be upgraded in the first place. I installed an adjustable K-Tech shock and it's doing a pretty decent job.

Thankfully, the South Africa series popped up in my YT recommendations and watched the entire series, it was too enjoyable not to. Like others have said, instead of replacing the suspension it might be easiest to have the springs changed and revolved to keep the height while improving the action. Can’t wait to watch the new season …
@svenbeowulfsson6413 жыл бұрын
I changed the spring in the fork of my old BMW K 750c some years ago, because the serial suspension was too soft. So I build in progressive coil springs from Wirth, Germany. The result was very successful.
