Ha! As it happens, I just drove one of these home today! This far, immensely pleased! All you’ve said re keeping it simple rings thoroughly true with me. I’ve found over the years that all that fancy adjustable gets used perhaps 3 times as you’re dialing in. After that you sort of forget it’s there, making the 850 Sport the logical choice. Also discovered that it’s not such a beast after all. Big and to be respected for sure, but shockingly easy to handle on the road. I’ve drawn much inspiration from your trips! This bike will devour miles like nobody’s business! Happiest holidays to you from California!

Own one, in the same blue colour. Love it so far, currently just a little under 3000km. Like that is basic, do not need more then 2 riders modes (or any at all). Added heated grips, bobbinset, engine guard bar, evotech performance gps mount. Looking into luggage options at the moment. Only negative i have is vibrations in the handlebars when it goes over 5500 rpm.

I have one, and love it. 2017 V-Strom replaced by a 2017BMW F800GS, which was replaced very quickly by the 2021 Tiger 850. The Tiger is the best balanced bike of them all, and has the best suspension and brakes, even in the basic spec. Balance is superb, the clutch and gearbox are the best I've ever had, and it is fun on the road, and adequately capable on moderate off-road routes as well. The Rally is brill, but tall. I do not like the TFT dash layout, but I'm adapting to that.

A year late but what would you say was the biggest difference from the V-Strom? Currently deciding between the two.
@damonoriente736 Жыл бұрын
@@903lew hi, no problem being a year late. You’re right on time. I think the biggest differences are the components generally, and the weight balance. Brakes, suspension, are all better on the Triumph. I think it is, unbalance, better, off-road, and better as a touring bike. I think the V Strom has a lot to recommend it, and is an extremely solid choice. I think the tiger 850, in essence, Is a similar bike, but upgraded in almost every way. The one exception is the screen: the instruments on the V Strom, from 2017 on, or more legible and more informative than on the new tigers. I’m on a trip on my tiger now, and I’m going to try to post some KZbin videos soon.

I’ve had mine for a month now and it’s brilliant. I’ve already done 2,000km and it’s very comfortable. Screen is excellent compared with my old NC 750 and the quick shifter is better than riding a DCT manually. Occasionally I miss the pure automatic aspect of DCT but that’s probably just laziness. Brakes are great, and engine braking is far better than anything I got on the Honda. It’s my first manual bike after 4 years on two wheels and I wish I’d switched earlier. Final point is the red is far better than the blue. Not only is it quicker but it’s far more popular with the ladies 😜

When you do the engine vibration tests, it would be helpful to check the 4500 rpm range where most engines have fueling and vibration issues. It would be helpful to check the bike over a range between 3500 and 5500 rpms, to see if there is a patch of bad vibration at a specific RPM. Even inline 4 cylinder engines, have a band of buzzy vibration, that can't be counterbalanced out, usually around 4,500 rpms.

Thank you for posting. I wonder how good it would look if instead of a traditional TFT screen, they used a screen/control panel similar to the rally like screen of the Tenere? A color screen with plenty of real estate should be able to display all the important stuff (i.e. location of closest pub) in a very clear easy to read manner. The issue with the tenere is that it is a black and white lcd and folks have been complaining about the sun blocking it out. Also, it could be touch screen or button driven.

I test rode this and the GT Pro. Loved both and I would have opted for the 850 Sport as its a great price for the spec. The Pro has lots of expensive tech I don't need. Very disappointed when my local Triumph said there's a delay nationally for this model (and the mid-range GT) and I'd be waiting until 2022. So to avoid a long wait I had to spend more than I wanted to and get the GT Pro, which they had in abundance in the showroom. Not regretting it though. Both amazing bikes.

I don’t get the hype around the 850 sport. Triumph actually released a base model with less trch with the full power of the tiger 900 as the “Tiger 900” no gt or rally on the end. What more do you need as abs? Heated grips are necessary. Riding modes; maybe a rain mode but not really needed. Brakes on when standing on a slope (hill control?) would be nice. A real key I find almost necessary. Cruise control would be nice for longer motorway parts.

I'd get the 850 - for me it's not lacking in anything the 900gt has that I'd want.....

What's wrong with keyless ignition? I wouldn't do without it in my car, and on a bike it makes even more sense because fiddling around with a key when dressed in biking gear and thick gloves is a bit of a pain..

Another great review of a really lovely bike. I’m currently riding a 2012 street triple with the twin cans, similar to yours, but I’ve got to the stage where I want a bike that can do everything and is comfy for my worn out knees! Which leads me to my question......for very similar money I can either order one of these or a 2016 r 1200 gs with all the fancy stuff and a two year warranty from my local bmw mottorad dealer. There are pro’s and cons to both but I’m genuinely stuck on what to do and seeing as you’ve got vast experience of both I thought I’d ask you for your thoughts! Obviously I’ll need to test ride both, hoping that will help a little. Thanks for the vids 👍🏻

Tough one - on balance I’d probably have the GS

Good morning, Andy. Any ideas as to why Triumph reverted to the previous model of mirrors? The ones on this model as well as the new 900s are the same as the ones on my 2016 XRX. Cheers from Brazil.

No idea - cost is my guess!

Yeah, my guess was efficiency, but with the pandemic and all, they probably had to attack the spare parts bins.

If that's a "basic bike" i must be more old school than I realised lol. I wish I wasn't a bit small and weedy or I'd love to try one of these, but you do it so well I don't have to so many thanks - And yes I always watch to the very end where this time nearly an oops to your (expensive) helmet. :>)

Hello TMF. Thank you for another good review. Can I ask about the pillion review on this one and how it compares to the 900 please. Thank you.
