Thank you very much for all your effort, that you put in these videos. I am MFA Fashion student, and I have realised that my visual design language is very poor. I have a lot of ideas/concepts but when it comes to design I feel the lack of 3D understanding, body etc. Since Fall I started to learn by myself how to build patterns, learn more about textiles and sewing techniques. I am very glad that I found your channel you insights and advices are very helpful. Thank you!

Most schools don't provide a solid foundation to exactly how pivotal patternmaking and draping is the the design process for 2 reasons. 1. It takes too much time. 2. Modern designers are not taught to consider the actual craftsmanship that is needed to execute complex design work. However, there are some institutions that provide what they call "Fashion Product Development", in which these topics are explored more. However, they are still VERY watered down. Way back in the day, we wouldn't be able to consider ourselves designers unless we understood how to properly translate 2D work into 3D (understanding the body, fit analysis, molding/casting fabrics around the body, ect.) Nowadays, as long as you can use illustrator to make flats, understand the VERY BARE basics of patternmaking and sewing, you are qualified by many company "standards" to be a designer. I hope you are still continuing to explore patternmaking. If you are able to make patterns well and with little to no error, you are opening yourself up to A LOT of opportunities such as freelancing, consultation, costume design and even more corporate stuff like technical design (surprisingly, they make more than designers).

agreeed, this comment is so true!@@nekrokleptic I studied fashion design at the top fashion school in US, but while trying to start my brand, I faced a lot of difficulties making samples on my own (because I didn't learn as much patternmaking). I wished they taught us more, but I'm learning on my own now. It's very expensive to outsource development. Just providing drawings to companies for them to make patterns is very unsustainable as a start up...

I love the feminine design of this blouse! The folds, curves and graceful lines are very feminine and romantic, a look not often seen these days, unfortunately. Gorgeous sleeves as well. I can picture it in cotton voile, silk, lightweight linen and organza. Just gorgeous!

Hello, Thank you for your very inspiring and full of knowledge video. How did you finish the "bottom" of the tulip sleeve, please? It seems, there are no facing, it would weight down the garment. Only a very thin hem ? How would you avoid a stitching line at the hem (except hemming by hand? :) Thank you again for all. :)
