I am happy with the pro-Huawei 'bias'. I thought this was a really helpful review. Not everyone wants the same things. I can understand why the Huawei might not be the choice of the gamer or the video editor. I am a web developer and some of the perceived disadvantages of the Huawei machine are benefits. For example, a lack of a discrete GPU is fine for me as I run Linux and I don't need a GPU to help me scroll through text at the cost of my battery.

how is the screen on the Huawei? if money wasn't a concern would you get the Macbook Pro 14" over the Matebook 16"? which linux OS do you run and does it have issues with sound? I heard it does and lastly do the fans come on when you are programming? I can't stand noise

@@percy9228 Good questions. I would not waste the money on the Apple product unless you are writing iOS apps. The screen is 3:2 touchscreen with 2520 pixels across. This is better than 4K or Full HD because I can have 1:1 pixels with no scaling, with everything legible on the web and in the IDE. The fans don't come on in a way you will notice and there is no GPU so it stays cool. No GPU is a feature for me, Chrome tries to use one and it is not something I need. The speakers are not as good as the Matebook X Pro but I bought some fancy Huawei headphones and the mini USB speaker for £1. I highly recommend both. I am not fussed that the speakers are not better (or louder), however, I did not buy the machine in order to play games. 14" screen on the Apple is too small for code. 16" is much better and in 3:2. The look and feel of the Huawei high end machines are gorgeous. It makes a difference having something exceptionally well built in your hands. The Matebook X is also very nice and it has awesome speakers and many other goodies, including more Thunderbolt but it does not have the 45W CPU. Go for the i7 16s and you won't be disappointed.

@@percy9228 Maybe the speakers are better in Windows and I just have not enabled 'audio past 100%'... Ubuntu runs great but I did have to turn off suspend because it was not waking. I did not investigate the bios or the logs on that, I run cron tasks so I need the machine on anyway. Ubuntu works great but there are those two areas I need to investigate. I have a Matebook X Pro 2020 for personal use and that runs Ubuntu perfectly with no tweaks needed. I expect that drivers for the latest chipsets will resolve the sleep problem and maybe the quiet speakers some time soon. I think they are just stereo speakers, the X Pro has up and down speakers, so that ultimately has better potential.

@@pdsnpsnldlqnop3330 I'm actually considering a Matebook 16 (2021), not the 16s. Infact the Matebook 16 has a better 5800H for thermal and fan noise though lower in overall performance. I don't think coding should matter much because you can just code on external monitors (which I plan on doing) I'm really tempted because of that screen but after doing my research I found that it's not a matter of which product is better but a matter of which OS is more suited for web programming. You went with linux but I heard OSx is just the better operating system with less bugs than windows. You spend less time fixing a weird quirk or windows than on MacOS. I won't be using linux. Would you agree OSx is better for web developent than windows?

@@percy9228 OSX is a consumer operating system. Windows is a consumer operating system. Linux is for developers. If you need to compile or do things with databases then you will be using a single core. Although the AMD products are great for gamers, where the cores get used, the AMD products are half the speed of the 12th Gen Intel for single core performance. That single core performance makes a big difference to me and it means I get hours more productivity a day due to speed and no loss of focus. For web development you want Ubuntu every time. If you are drawing pretty pictures for websites rather than doing website development then the Mac will be better because you can run Adobe products all day. But they are also available for Windows. OSX makes you run things like 'homebrew' to get linux apps so the instructions are never so easy. This makes things slower.

I wouldnt compare the two computers but Im thinking of buying the matebook 16s. Its got DDR5 Ram, i9 processor, large battery, large screen, etc. It is not the best ever, but for the features it provides, it is the cheapest I can get. I dont play games so I dont need a dedicated gpu.

I had the 2019-2020 Huawei model and now I have the 2021 Macbook Pro M1 16 inch and the M1 is much better by a mile.

Super Devices made my life so much better. Can't tell how great it is to have my android tablet be a second monitor in just one click. Also navigating my phone on screen, moving files via drag and drop from the phone-window to the notebook is so good.

and since when screen to body ratio relative to the size of the workspace? Resolution plays more when it comes to workspace because the higher the resolution the more larger the workable space in your UI, not the screen to body ratio.

I think the Apple MacBook Air 13" 2020 M1 with 16Mb and 512 GB is still a very good option. it costs around 1140 euro

Thankyou. Nice review and comparison to the MacBooks which seem to be the benchmark with the M1 chip (PC user here). I am considering this Huawei 16S and have tried in store. Impressive screen size, 3:2 aspect ratio, general appearance AND impressive touch screen. Brightness may be a little low for outside (300 nits)? Good typing experience, etc. Weight not excessive at 1.99kg. Suggest with latest intel chip, battery life hitting the sweetspot at about 8+ hrs. Don't do gaming or video editing so discrete graphics card probably not important? Wondering if serious about sound, people would opt for external speakers? I'm also considering the much cheaper 2021 model Huwawei 16 with the Ryzen chip which has good battery life, similar specs and same chassis, but without the touch screen.

I really expected the HUAWEI to come out on top but I can really stand by a MacBook's speakers! The MateBook 16s might be decent to good but the lower-end Windows laptops can't seem to figure out speakers at all! Love the video as always even if my Apple-loving heart cries. Haha!

What’s so affordable with 16s? 100k pesos or more depending on your specs.. macbooks are priced the same.. And per experience after 3 years windows laptops will become so slow whilst macbooks stays fast as usual.. longevity wise apple products last longer than windows laptops.. for the same price i’ll go for macbooks

Windows may lag for i3 variants and below but to be fair, I don't think for i5+ variants. Im speaking from my experience since i had a core i5 PC its been up and running til now for the last 6 years.. with only 8gb of ram, I used this for casual gaming and moderate photo\vid editing (photoshop etc) and never experience any slowness except during video rendering.

@@thisISyouish Most of them used a windows laptop back in 2010 where most of them had Hard drives while MacBook pros started to ship with only SSDs on them Apple did a really good marketing tactic there because they advertise that their macs where much fasters than PC (which in reality it's just a matter of what storage device you use)
