One thing with the mirror finish and why most companies probably do not use it is simple. For the same reason the katana sword makers used that finish in Japan. With a mirror finish every imperfection in the blade is glaringly obvious. You can hide a lot with a satin or bake on black finish.

+LondonSpade Canada. The letter of the law isn't totally explicit but the established meaning of the law is essentially that any knife primarily designed to be a weapon, as that knife clearly is, is illegal for anyone to own except for hunting purposes, for which you need a permit, and even then they can't be folding knives. Weapons are simply illegal.

@Blake839 I've been EDCing a Victorinox SwissChamp for several months. It's a great tool, with 33 functions in one. It's the only knife I carry. Folders don't do it for me to be honest. Standalone folders absolutely have their place, but I don't see the point in carrying both a folder and a multitool with a knife on it simultaneously in day to day life. A multitool can do almost everything I need a folder to do and then some.

Great review. I use a Tinkerer as part of my pocket EDC, mostly because my bigger Magnum knife was confiscated at the airport, I found it practical for me because of the ideal size, the good functions and because I just camouflage it as my keychain, so it has a certain element of stealth in it. People generally assume that I am a Wine Bag for having a swiss knife, little they know that this baby is actually a very good screwdriver and a sharp knife. I know it is not ideal for self-defense, but I really can't afford anything else now and my Charge Tti is just too big to keep in my pocket.

The small driver on the can opener works as a Phillips as well. So it's silly to get the Tinker over the Spartan. The Spartan can do everything the Tinker can and more, if you add a straight pin and micro screwdriver. And the corkscrew has many uses beyond a wine bottle opener. The Spartan is the better knife IMHO.
@thehaloguy117
@thehaloguy117 8 жыл бұрын
The can opener screwdriver is pretty god awful for phillips screws. I would much rather have a dedicated phillips that has good leverage on it than have to use the combo tool. But thats just me.
@Pinki2019
@Pinki2019 8 жыл бұрын
the halo guy 117 The Phillips on the Tinker comes out of the bottom and the knife usually gets in the way. You'd be better off with a model that has an in-line Philllips. Using the driver on the can opener is better most of the time than the one on the Tinker. Both are just for when you're in a pinch. Obviously if you need to use a Phillips every day you should carry a proper Phillips. And if you're using the Phillips on the Tinker every day, it will get stripped very quickly due to the soft stainless steel.
@thehaloguy117
@thehaloguy117 8 жыл бұрын
Pinki2019 I use my philips really often, and its not stripped. Carrying a large philips screwdriver separately is too inconvenient, and the knife doesnt get in the way

I doubt you'll ever use that knife for self defense. By the time you get it pulled out the attacker will already know what you're trying to do, and shoot you. Or they would have just stabbed/bonked you and be gone before you even registered what happened. But in the super rare off chance that you get to use it for self defense good luck proving to the judge that it was self defense, and you didn't have any other way to escape the situation.

Do you mean "comprise"? You keep saying "compromise", which means to have a flaw. Is there a video where you actually open the tools and show what's in them? I'm trying to find out about these things so for me just listening and staring at the unopened items is kind of futile.

People don't realize that the softer victorinox blades are better because a field knife SHOULD go dull faster and then they are easier to sharpen in the field. A harder stronger metal is useless after a week out in the wilderness.

Here is a good use for the key ring...... I put a loop of paracord through it, long enough to reach up to the big blade and wrap around the base of it when it is deployed and part way down the handle ...nice and tight.... I agree. These large Cold Steel knives are cumbersome and not quick to deploy. Even if you keep it to knives, there are other knives, that deploy much faster. Hell, there are smaller Cold Steel knives that are much quicker. In close quarter combat you dont have time to jack around with your equipment.

+TheSagaBegins Hahaha oh dear, here come the arm chair experts. If you want to get into an argument over semantics, you should probably join one of those wikipedia forums. Many consider the Vic blade shape to be a spear point, sure its only a single beveled knife but calling it a drop point isn't as descriptive. We could call it a "Kephart-like drop point pen-knife" but it's easier to say "spear point" and just letting the over zealous internet experts throw a tantrum in the corner. The point of the blade is roughly on the centerline of the blank, is that technically a drop point? Yes. Does it look a hell of a lot more like a spear point with only one bevel? Yes. Does it matter which we call it? No. Also many could argue that "Pen Knife" or "Pen Blade" just means a knife that folds into the handle. Which is about as descriptive as "drop point" when it comes to knives.
