This was the first knife of any kind I bought myself when I was about 22/23. I went into a knife store in the mall. I didn’t have a lot of money and knew nothing about knife brands. It was the brand I recognized and the Tinker was the one they had that was super affordable. Probably $15-$20 and this was around 2000 or so. At the time I didn’t look at them as serious tools not having KZbin or anyone I knew that was informed about knives. Anyway through KZbin I’ve come to appreciate them again and have several models. There’s something about the Tinker that makes it my favorite. Just got one in black.

I have a super tinker and I never leave home without it. My 8 year old son and 10 year old daughter both have swiss army knives too. Amazing knives for kids to learn about how to be safe with knives. Great video as always.

I was literally thinking how I believe that a Tinker was my first “real” knife too when you said it. I wish I still had mine, that knife went everywhere with me. All my pockets in jeans had wear marks from it. That was a great knife. Now I can buy one for my son. Thanks

I have carried a Swiss Army knife for over 40 years. My version is similar, but also has scissors which I have found invaluable. I am a retired IBEW Journeyman Inside Wireman so mine has been USED a lot, and held up extremely well. I used to have them engraved and gave them to girlfriends as gifts. I have also given them to my daughters. It's amazing how much women/ girls appreciate and then use pocket (or purse?) knives. Great choice of a knife to highlight!

The Tinker is the smallest SAK that has a Philips head (except for the Tinker Small). I use mine almost every day at work. I carry that and a Gerber Dime I got for $8 so I no longer have to fill my pockets with other tools. Less bulky than a full size multi tool. It is perfectly named as well. If you know of a 'fix it' type person they will absolutely love this as a gift.

Way to go, Gideon! I've been carrying a succession of 81 mm SAK's, usually Tinkers, every day for around 40 years. I have no idea how many I've given to people. Each of my groomsmen got one. My hunting guide in South Africa got one. I sent a Tinker and a Classic to two dear friends. She kept the Tinker; he got the Classic. Smart girl. Thanks for paying due respect for the best EDC tool ever made.

I have precisely the same opinion: Every human being should have at least a Victorinox Spartan (or Tinker)on themselves. Nothing beats a SAK on everyday uses.

A swiss army knife was my first knife as well! I never did cut myself with it because I had already learned my lesson with one of my dads old Barlows. Still carry a super tinker ever single day! I'm def gonna use the link and get one for my friend who I am slowly turning into a knife person. 22$ for a tinker is awesome.

Felix Immler has a great channel about the other things that you can do with SAK tools, y'all should check it out, especially if you live in a country where the only type of knife you can legally carry is something like a SAK. Even if you don't, it's entertaining enough to just enjoy watching.

My first SAK was a hand me down Tinker. Definitely a capable gateway multi-tool or EDC. Most Victorinox tools are the best bang for the buck. My current every day carry Swiss Army tool is the Huntsman upgraded with a straight pin in the secret slot and the grey glasses screw driver along with a lanyard on the keyring (simple and highly recommended for pocket carry). I Love the Swiss Army Tools!

Love the video brother and can't agree more. I personally Carrie the Evo grip 18 which comes in a locking or non locking version. For added functionality I swap out the toothpick for a firefly Ferro rod from tortoise gear. This way it turns my favourite EDC pocket knife into an EWC or everywhere carry.

I think you are overselling it when you say you’re just giving up pliers over a wave+. What about wire cutters, needle nose capabilities, wire crimpers, a saw, file, scissors, bit exchanger, eyeglass screwdriver. Yea, if you want to spend $20 on a gift for someone this probably fits the bill, but it’s not even comparable in terms of usefulness in an edc tool as a wave or equivalent

I've got several of these in the family. But the ones with a cork screw. It's not always "survival", you know. A bottle of good wine in the woods is a kind of luxury we can afford from time to time (taking the garbage back of course). And I also think cork screw is more versatile than a philips driver.

Another great video. I have two of these knives. The one my dad gave me 30 years ago is in a lock box and will go to my son. I received another one as a gift from a local business. IIRC the older model is a little different. The flat blade screwdriver bottle opener does not lock at ninety degrees on my old one.

I’ve actually never had a SAK of any model fall out of my pocket. That said I hate Cellidor so I switch out the scales to Nylon or G-10. Two layers just ride in my pocket while 3-4 layers usually ride in a sheath (SAK or homemade) and sometimes I use a Tec pocket clip.

Pocket knife--not multitool. Multitools are pliers-based. Been collecting Victorinox for 50 years, and multitools for 22 years. A multitool was an all-purpose powertool in the old days! Victorinox makes pocket knives, and, multitools. Pliers-based, versus knife-based. In my generation we never fussed about locks or clips. Victorinox already sells wood scaled versions. And many locking blade models. Several backlocks. Liner locks are replacing all the old 111mm slide locks. Many models at 111mm and 130mm. In truth, old fashioned Victorinox knives will cover most daily needs. With a prayer and a Swiss Army knife, you can stop the armies of Gog & Magog in the Valley of Judgement, as my generation would say.

I've been considering getting one of the models with pliers to avoid carrying a SAK and SOG micro as well as a 3-4'' folding knife. The SOG micro would be wonderful but It has this awful quirk where the pliers deploy inside my pocket. Do the pliers function well for most things? I worry that they would be too small and the knife would end up being too fat.
@cassanoa
@cassanoa 4 жыл бұрын
@@mikeyyates5377 these knives are of the best materials so the little pliers are very presice and well mad - they are about 1/8 of an inch wide - they are also small wire cutters - on the inside of the jaw you will notice a small cutting teeth kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqG4anxoe52BsMU - i love these things kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZrXi3t5m9iCg80 you will be surprised how many times you will use these things - from pulling out a thorn to crimping a electrical connector ( in the back behind the jaw ) - holding a nail or screw before you hammer it - just like steel fingers - they are delicate but strong ( within limitations ) - the wire cutter works great but only for soft wire that fit - i use the whole knife as the handle and squeeze the handle like a trigger for pulling what ever fits - like fish hooks - the tip is so fine - you can grip one sheet of paper
