American here. The Beretta has a breach-loading mechanism for old ladies who don't have the grip strength to rack the slide.

I had a Beretta 950 chambered for .25 Auto. As a police officer, I carried it when assigned at Traffic Department (a low risk function for a police officer - I was a member of a comission to avoid frauds on get driver licenses). Never failed. But the .22 Short version is totally unreliable. Fails to fire and feed are very frequent.

If you have a 950 BS you can get a 21A barrel swap it out and just run 21A magazines make sure you stick to Green tag loads or subsonic because the recoil spring assembly is slightly different
