THEMOVE: 2023 Tour de France Stage 8

Күн бұрын

Lance, JB, and George break down Mads Pedersen's impressive sprint victory ahead of Jasper Philipsen and Wout van Aert on a difficult uphill finish in Limoges. The loss leaves Van Aert, who had two stage wins at this point in the race last year, with little to show for the immense amount of work he has already put into the race.
The crew also discuss Mark Cavendish’s devastating mid-stage crash, which forced him out of the race and ended his chances, at least for 2023, of breaking the all-time Tour de France stage win record. They wrap up the show by discussing Simon Yates and Mikel Landa’s late crashes, and ensuing time losses, before previewing what to expect on tomorrow’s historic, and brutal, finish atop Puy de Dôme.

Even without George's scoop, it is clear Cav has been on some great form. Between yesterday's mechanical mishap and today, I would think he is fuming mad. To go out in a crash and not get the chance to roll through Paris, taking a stage or not, is devastating, for absolutely everyone. Every fan of the sport is aware he has already announced this is his final season; we can now only hope the motivation and rage is still there when this injury heals and he delays those plans.

Hey guys, I have a comment on the Keto IQ, (not compensated in any way) I know a lot about Keto and Ketosis, I've lost 80 lbs from following the Keto diet. I've used different types of "Keto" drinks and mixes. My wife and I ride our bikes a few times a week, usually 20 to 25 miles. This morning I decided to ride on an empty stomach, just drinking a half shot of Keto IQ. I shattered my ave speed by 1 1/2 mph and felt amazing after my ride. It's now going into the evening and I still have my legs as well as serious energy. Next time I'm going to bump up my ride and see if I get the same results.....! THANKS KETO IQ....!

Hey guys. I enjoy the podcast, keep up the good work. I was wondering what you guys think regarding the stage win records. I can't even begin to comprehend how difficult it would be to win a sprint finish. But, with that said, I feel like the Eddy Merckx wins are more impressive than Cav's. I agree ENTIRELY with Lance about Jumbo trying to dominate on Stage 9. It’s crazy. If Pogacar wants to ride easy for the rest of the Tour and lose by 20-odd seconds, let him. But that’s not gonna happen. If Pogacar attacks tomorrow on that last, steepest part, I predict he’ll win the Tour. Maybe not tomorrow’s stage, but ultimately the Tour.

Agree with Bruneel that Cav already had the record for most sprint wins and that his DQ crash today, while sad, is hardly the end of the world. I'm also guessing Merckx fans are relieved to see Eddie's record unbeaten by a punk sprinter. Life goes on.
@joejones4181
@joejones4181 Жыл бұрын
I would not call Cav a punk sprinter, just a sprinter. Person carried through the tour by his team to try and win a handful of select stages. GC riders, win in almost any condition and are not carried through stages too tuff for them. Jesus H Christ, are we actually having this discussion? F_cking joke. So what if Cav broke the record how is this explained to a novice bike fan? Huh, how? Well there are these special stages where the eventual winners don't try and win and just try not to be taken down in a freak crash, called a sprint. Some guys specialize in sprints BUT are NEVER in contention for the overall.

I am a huge critic of Cav taking the record from Eddie, I hate what happened to Cav. I have broken a collar bone (well, more than one) it sucks. I wish no ill will to any rider. Make a Sprinters classification for victories and as I have said, I am all in for Cav, but Sagen and Chipo had CLASS. Sagen bypasses sprints and enters into one of the greatest bike riders in history, not the Sprinter, that hung around long enough and was carried through the mountains enough times to somehow tie a bicycling history record. And I am sure he was clean, huh, what? What is clean? Give us a break, drama writers.
