Will it be coming in the mail? 😊 Best take away from MM: reach around without removing the whole front. Love the video and at EP we stand them up for this repair also but remember to remove the battery especially if it is lead acid. We recently repaired two with MTD covered parts for recall.

I had one for seven years. I bought a Husqvarna z5424 and sold the TB30 back to the original owner. I always used white lithium grease one the rack and never had a problem. It was like having power steering.

You'll notice he show how you can reach your arm inside the housing to replace those bolts, instead of having to take off the entire housing assembly. Cool. Both great videos.

As I posted on Chickanic's channel, I did one on a TB30. When I was looking up the parts, all had a note "does not fit the TB30". Kept coming up for the TB30R. I ordered anyway and it worked, no difference that I could see. Same kit for all of these MTD machines.

I have seen several of these steering “upgrade” videos, and this is the only one that discusses the flogged out elongated steering shaft hole. LOOK at the wear of the hole vs the totally insignificant wear at the back of the rack slot! The elongated hole is undoubtedly the biggest contributing factor to the rack and pinion disengaging to the point that teeth are able to skip and be worn off! And yet, the “upgrade” doe NOT improve that interface. As this video suggests, there should be a bushing, or the bracket should at least be a heavier gauge steel.

1:30...ELONGATED HOLE IN STEERING BRACKET...My guess as to why there's such excessive wear on that bracket and rack is due to the lurching brake/clutch pedal release. Anyone who owns these mini MTD tractors will attest to the jarring motion when the pedal is released. The solution is to ease off the pedal both in forward and reverse. However, that may result in some extra wear on the motor itself. During the past 3 seasons, that's how I've been using the mower. There hasn't been any issues developing so far. More testing needs to be done, I guess.

Your right about that!! I'm still using my 30yr old Dynamark. With regular maintenance my 30yr old tractor has been fantastic. It looks/runs/cuts like new. I refuse to pay the prices they want
