The cultural influence of this game cannot be understated. It turned SCP from a niche 4chan thing into a large community with >4000 articles and even more Tales.
@theplaybunnyarcade33752 жыл бұрын
Also brought in a ton of new people who had very little care for the community or the lore that promptly co-opted it and scared off most of the original and most prolific creators. It was probably the worst thing that could have happened to it.

@@theplaybunnyarcade3375 Yes, every popular thing is hurt by its popularity. But also look on the positive side! Without containment breach we never would have gotten games like Secret Lab and the like! It's always easy to look back on something before it was popular and see that as "the good old days" but we should also appreciate how many talented writers were brought to the SCP community by this game.
@TheNerevahkiin Жыл бұрын
@@theplaybunnyarcade3375 I’d respectfully disagree. I’d say no, not really. Most of the older creators are still around or stuck around for a while. Co-opting isn’t something that can happen with a fanbase, especially for an inherently collaborative writing project like SCP. And it’s not like 4chan had some deep, loving influence over it beyond being the site where the first SCPs were posted. The wiki was created in 2008, and most of its staff are pretty old. Also I’d say the level of care for the site and universe has only deepened over time, you can’t just get write anything and get it approved like you could within the first few hundred (166 is probably the worst case of this…) At the very least, SCPs are more creative, well written, varied and interesting than they were when it originated, when everything was just a nigh-unstoppable murder-beast or a concept taken from another media franchise. Not to say I don’t like 173 or 096 or 682, but I think that more varied SCPs are better overall for the universe.

But thats all this game really relies on, is the chase and the anticipation. Theres no jumpscares or anything like that, so in truth theres more terror than fear. And because oft that, its kind of like Subnautica, at first the Reapers and the Ghost Leviathans are terrifying, but then you get used to them and by your 3rd run they are just kinda there.
