This might be a small thing for some but for those like me who wear polarized sunglasses, the Razr is a huge winner because it doesn't exhibit the weird rainbow effect that makes the Samsung almost unusable. That's a gamechanger for me!

This is one of the most helpful videos I've ever watched comparing these phones. The head-to-head comparisons of all the features were really thorough and I appreciate that immensely, especially the comparison of the cover screens. The Razr's cover screen functionality alone is probably enough to sell that one to me over the Flip 5, that sort of Baby Mode of the Flip 5 cover screen already made me feel borderline enraged haha, whereas being able to do virtually anything on the cover that you can inside, including adjusting your pulldown settings, sounds like exactly what I want. (Plus, I despise Samsung's internal ecosystem, and I'll take any excuse to stay far away from it.) Thanks for the great video. Very insightful.

Finally someone mentioned the real difference of usability between those two phones. I went to the motorola froma flip 3 exactly because I wanted more of that front screen and I barely need to open the phone now, which also results in less battery consumed. I compared the new motorola to my flip 3 for a couple of days(regarding the camera) and actually I prefered the results from motorola most of the time, except for sunsets and video. The flip 3 processed the sunsets beatifully, while the motorola's processing was really bad. BUT I kind of found a solution for this, too. Installed some latest gcam port and now it's rocking the photos, too.

Most of Motorola's issues with the camera are software related. There are many great 3rd party camera apps that processes the image better than Motorola's camera app. The sensor itself isn't bad, though. It's almost comparable to let's say, an iPhone 12. I feel like the camera quality through Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook look much better than taking a picture through the stock app. It's such a minor issue though, you would have to be very picky to notice any difference. To the average consumer, the camera will be more than adequate to do the job. Most apps will compress the image quality anyways, so having the better camera on the Z-Flip will still be kind of pointless.

Almost was going to replace my S23 for flip 5 , but suddenly I realise that I love my S23 much more than what I have thought. Usability is more important factor than style anyday. Razor + or 40 ultra what may be is more attractive than flip 5 no doubt. Let's see what OnePlus open brings to the table. Big agree. I've been rocking the Z Fold 3 for over a year now, and while I love it, if functionality is important, stick with your slab for now. Apps still aren't super well optimized for folding phones yet, though they are getting there. Also, unless you're a power user and/or working in a corporate environment, there really aren't a ton of use cases that justify the cost of the Fold. I use the big screen to watch KZbin and show off pictures, occasionally for Google Sheets or Docs. If you're an average user, you're mostly paying for the novelty. I have both and I regret getting the Flip, at least in its current condition. The app that lets you use most others on the cover screen is region locked and not available everywhere. There are no alternatives. I got to the point where I have to create a "Routine" just to be able to turn on my hotspot for my Navigation in the car on the cover screen. As you mentioned, even the swipe down mini menu is extremely limited. I think the RAZR wins as it comes ready and able from the box with no extra apps that may or may not be available needed.

With the Fold 5 (and probably Flip 5 too) I feel Samsung foldables finally left the prototype phase. You can put it next to any S series phones and you won't really see the difference, no apparent HW limitations. The Fold 2 before worked for 2.5 years, and it's new owner is happy with it. But I feel lucky there and I was always a bit nervous that it can break. With the Fold 5, it feels like a regular phone that works through it's whole 4-5 years SW support. Even if there are strange HW omissions (like fast charging), Samsung is still the benchmark when it comes to foldables.

The photo editor and lack of a moto gallery app makes the moto razr much worse than it should be. It'd be cool to see Moto innovate in the folding space more, Or even go fully crazy and try something akin to the LG wing for one of their flagship models one year. It's crazy that already a brand new, high tech sector of design is already feeling tired and same'y. Moto Mods were cool and while they ultimately didn't make the mark they wanted to, They did inspire innovation all round, especially with things like dual screen devices, battery standouts like the Note and Galaxy Ultra series, and even Motorola's own Stylo series. It feels weird then that when given another opportunity to go big, with at the least successful sales as one of the three biggest names in mobile, they'd play it so safe when they finally have another opportunity to be a proper stand out with some staying power. It just feels like we're in an age where while everyone is doing the exact same things, Moto, the reinventor of the flip phone, could make something as big and popular as the Razr was back when it released first.

The last part of your comment is what leads me to believe Samsung is a company that lacks creativity. They are probably the first to push out high tech but they are not good at packaging it. This is why their phone designs have always evolved around what Apple does and now with foldables they evolve around Motorola and soon with Google. The good thing is other companies are not following Samsung and are actually being creative and finding ways that they can improve without copying. While Samsung started the whole foldable thing they are not the ones who will make it evolve into a form that will be accepted and replace normal phones.

@@Marco-em2inmicro changes happen so that they have something else to improve for their next phone. They are already making a phone right after the new one has been released. With that said. The criticism they listen to are the people from 2 generations ago (z flip 5 is an improvement of z flip 3 while the z flip 4 is from z flip 2 hence why the people were confused when z flip 4 didn't have a better cover screen even when they have been requesting it a year ago and it only came to z flip 5). This formula rarely changes. With that said even without competition they will do the same in my opinion, because z flip series has been one of the flip phones that still is trying to hit mainstream market even when no other companies had to balls to even bother. Just look on their perspective. If you made the best phone you can ever make, then how do you one up the next year? You can't so become a disappointment. S22Ultra and S23Ultra is the best example.

When it comes to foldables I feel like specs aren't the point. The use case is more important. That's why the Pixel Fold appeals more to me than my previous Z Fold 2. When it comes to these two, the Razr actually seems better because of a better use case outside screen that lets you use the phone like normal instead of putting on a new skin/launcher. Actually that's what I hate with Samsung, their UI design feels crowded at times.

This was a great phone battle Mr. Mobile. If not for the sweet deal I got for the Pixel Fold, this would've been a tough call to see which flip phone I would get as an upgrade to my Z Flip 3. Based on the camera, that might have kept me in the Samsung ecosystem because I love to take photos and videos and Samsung had a good camera for a flip phone. But my Pixel Fold would crush those two flip phones in that department and I could not be happier about the decision I made going to the Pixel Fold. I would love to see you do a similar battle between the Pixel Fold and the Z Fold 5.

I got my Flip 5 on August 7th and I love it! I actually wanted the Razr+ but I was able to get a much better deal for the Flip 5 so that's what I got. The only way the Razr+ is better is the external display functionality, and that's marginal. I installed Good Lock so even that isn't a factor anymore. The Flip 5 is better in every other area and will get software updates for five years. The Flip 5 also feels to be more solid after holding both as I did. Battery life seems decent so far. It's not as good as my S23, but I still get through the day without a problem. I couldn't care less about DeX. I've never used it and probably never will. If for some reason I do need to use DeX, I still have my S23 to use for that. BTW, Motorola really hasn't been the Motorola we all know and love since Lenovo bought them and has been calling all the shots. For these foldable comparisons, I'd appreciate overheating test as well. One of my most common use case for Flip is to use it for video calls in work and outside. After about an hour of video call (regardless of app, regardless if only on cover screen or inside), Samsung Flip closes all apps, including the video call app. Gets worse if it's charging at the same time. You mention Razr+ runs hotter but does it behave the same once it reaches critical temperature? Or at very least gives you a warning because Samsung does it without warning. Also, a negative for me was that if I want to use outside screen only for a call, once you open it past 90*, it switches to inside screen. Sure, that is intentional but I wish it had option to use outside screen even when unfolded. Thanks for the video, seems like my choice was the right one even though Razr+ is more attractive.

I'm on the Razr plus, and I can answer this one. The upper portion with the cover screen does get hot faster than I'd like, but, unlike what I've seen with a lot of the flips, it reaches a top-out point and idles there, I've never had it suddenly close out stuff, or even get too laggy/slow at max heat. The worst you'll notice is moving from those calls and full temperatures over to scrolling a page or something, I've noticed that it becomes a bit laggy for a few minutes so scrolling feels like it's about to crash. That said apps are rock solid and never actually close out, even at full load and max temps.
