I am blessed to own a 1962 two pup MM that is probably a 9.5 out of 10. What a great neck!

That is very nice and cool looking, even with the weird neck-plate mod. Seymore Duncan makes a classic Melody Maker pickup under their Custom Shop listings, they go for around $160. A '60s Melody Maker is high on my want list. I personally think MM's sound best with a little grit or dirt in the signal and going through a 12" speaker. Nice overview and demo of a cool guitar.

The backs were originally sunburst but the neck was the clear coat.

The pickups used on this guitar are Gibson pu-380. These pickups are really cool and unique, but they were used on only a few guitars and are no longer made today.

Seymour Duncan makes a custom Melody Maker humbucker. It is the same size as the original pickup. It sounds amazing. I put one on my 1965 Melody Maker. Great guitar. Built like a tank. Good weight.

I have a 62 MM with a Novak p90 added... what a sweet little axe !!!

I've heard one with that setup and that is what I would go with if I kept it, but I wanted it to get as close to original as possible. If I wanted to go all out, I suppose I could have refinished it too

I just bought a Curtis Novak mm P90 for mine. They're pretty amazing

Looks like the one I sold in 77 I had stripped and refinished it I was young and stupid

Lollar also makes a loaded pickguard with an uncovered P90 as it’ll sit right in the original cavity route. A poor man’s Junior, if you will. Yours is definitely a refin, but has some great mojo! I have a 59 MM, they’re great guitars! Did they lacquer over the fretboard?

The cavity on this guitar had been routed for a humbucker at one point so I was more trying to get the authentic look with the pickguard moreso than the body cavity. The fretboard is definitely lacquered, wasn't sure if they came like that or not.

@@mtjguitars They definitely didn’t come lacquered. The only Rosewood board Gibson to ever get fretboard lacquer is the recent Iommi Monkey SG. Very interesting, I bet it feels good under the fingers though!

Hey Mike, do you still have this MM or did you sell it already?
@mtjguitars Жыл бұрын
I did end up selling it. Still wonder if it was the right call. If nothing else it was a GREAT conversation piece. But also a cool piece of history. That being said, I can't believe how many of them are still on the market and they're not crazy expensive.
