How to Install A Hidden Door Book Latch (inswing & outswing)

I purchased and installed this latch kit for my outswing Murphy Door. Mine is an outswing style like the one featured in this video. The initial hole you need to drill for the thru mounting bracket is ⅝-inch. Instructions in this video are very clear and straightforward (well done Murphy Door). I ran into two issues with my installation. First, the bottom, outside edge of the mock "book" that they provide is flared out just a bit. This surface (that meets the bookcase edge to form the hinge for the mechanism was binding just a bit due to the out-flare. After several cycles, the book binding has worn away a bit and it's now seated in place. I guess that makes the "book" look more worn. My second issue was with the latch plate. Installation was straight forward as you re-use the existing 4 screw holes (from the old friction lock). The hole provided for the new latch (on my plate) was off by 1/16-inch and the bolt failed to seat/latch properly. Since it's made of Delrin or something similar it was easy to machine out that 1/16th and the bolt now seats well. I fiddled with the cable adjustments FROM INSIDE THE DOOR so I could ensure I could still get the door un-latched and opened properly. All in all a nice add to my Murphy Door.

This tutorial doesn’t have any of the information needed to install. Not a single bit size and measurements are wrong. You also had to make major machining changes. Nothing about this system is good or right. What a joke.

Well, you start out giving the wrong number from the bottom of the door. Then you don’t give a single bit size so it’s pretty hard to know what to do. 2/10 tutorial.
