Beautiful song! Reminds me of my lovely parents who were from Dublin, they’ve both sadly passed and we miss them every day. Hearing the Dublin accent makes my heart hurt with nostalgia - but it’s also so great to hear it. My mum and her sisters used to sing sweet 16. When my mum passed, my Dad would listen to Finbar and Imelda May singing it and also ‘I wish I had someone to love’ …. he missed my mum terribly, they got together at age 14 and 15 and used to go the dance halls back in Dublin. My mum was a great dancer and my Dad the biggest joker - wonderful people! Love the Furey’s - great story tellers! We’ll be seeing them in May next year in London. Very proud of my Irish ☘️ heritage ❤️

Ya cant be the Dubs for their wit and one liners always sharp as a pencil. Plenty of Dublin accents on tiktok videos if ya want to hear real dubs talkin . Just sayin.

I heard this song 15 years ago in a Dublin pub, I cried as I listened to it. The words were how I felt about losing my grandfather. He was my best friend and always there for me, nearly 20 years later I still miss him every single day. Had forgotten the name of the song over the years but never the feeling it gave me. 2 years ago I messaged the bar I had been in and asked if they knew what the song could have been, and after a few messages they put me on to this! I had it back. Thank you Darkey Kelly's. Xx

This is the definitive and absolutely best outstanding version of this song, often copied, never equalled! Sung with passion and belief by George Furey, the anchorman and outstanding guitarist and vocalist of the Fureys over the last 30+ years! Dedicated to all our absent friends! Listen and enjoy!
