Just watched this about a week ago! I’m an offroad racer from western Canada and there are crap tons of ruts in our races. I’ve always been bad at them so I stay out of them. Due to obvious reasons all of my races are cancelled this year😞. I have dedicated this time to getting good at what I’m bad at starting with ruts. I used ever technique in this video and in 3 rides I have noticed an extremely large difference. I am faster and feel more comfortable in ruts. Thanks so much for all of the tips MXF!

This is unbelievably baddass ! And after 35 years yes! 35 years, I am back on a dirt bike and I have to learn all over again! at least so I can do it properly. these videos are priceless so thank you. At 60 years old I swear I am going to learn how to whip! maybe only just a little one but I want to be the only one in the 50 and older to do it. Is this the place on Doss rd. and Hudson bend? the terrain and background looks familiar.

We don't quit riding because we get old, we get old because we quit riding! God Bless my friend and WHIP IT! WHIP IT GOOD!!!! lol (most kids will have no clue of the reference lol)

I'm 60 also and way back when we were starting to ride, we only had magazines to carry info really and stuff like a video here was very hard to eveb find and expensive! So my =self, and many others ~never really understoood what we were doing with riding; It was all self taught and maybe one of the people you rode with were good enough rider a copy? One thing is for sure, getting these moves correctly will allow you to go faster and safer and it will feel great when executed properly,,,

Also make sure to lightly hold the front brake all the way at through the turn. Helps keep the front end down so you can gas it a little harder without loosing control. Also don't sit so far forward. Sitting up at the tank makes for less rear end control. Try to be slightly farther back than centered to keep control of the rear wheel
@stricknine86236 жыл бұрын
An exceptionally good explanation of all of the mechanics of a corner,..entry (weight position back with braking),.mid corner / apex (weight position centered up front close to tank while picking up the throttle) and corner exit (weight position of head and shoulders forward while even harder throttle). Body position with each of the three stages of a 180 degree corner change quickly, fluidly and in concession as each stage presents. Excellent video.

I look forward to getting out during this lockdown and practice at the pole lines (deep sand!!)

Here are Some things I've been working on for my cornering. First rut spotting. Looking ahead, spot my rut, looking through past beyond to the corner exit. Second Bike lean. keeping my body and head upright. As soon the head tilts inward so does the bike. Third how much I brake and which I use more front or rear. I've been experimenting using rear over front. Say A bike(ktm) with a strong touchy front brake dives the front end if not careful. Ive been using the rear more to reduce excessive dive and unsettling the suspension. Fourth gear selection. I've been experimenting with staying in a higher gear for the given turn to promote faster corner speed and keeping the suspension doing it's job as well as excessive wheel spin and that out of control feeling with four stroke torque all herky jerky back n fourth being in a low gear. Fifth getting my leg out and higher. This along with while my leg is out and up I emphasize still squeezing hard with my knees. Sixth throttle and clutch control. Keeping rpms up to flow corner while slowing down as little as possible. Not sure if what I'm doing is 100% correct but when I do it right it feels amazing
@ondrejmagyar48416 жыл бұрын

One thing you didn't mention is where you should be looking through out the turn. I've found for myself that once I'm at/enteringthe rut if I'm looking/concentrating on the rut I tend to jump it or get cross rutted and can't get leaned over and my throttle control is choppy throughout the turn. But on the other hand once I see that my front wheel is lined up with the rut if I look past the turn I enter it clean and don't have any issues with my lean and throttle control
@PedroHeyMan4 жыл бұрын
how do you "make" a rut? i mostly ride in sand, but its usualy nice and moist, i can hit a corner multiple times in the same line (horrible at flat turns) but it dosent form a rut, and i see some other guy just get 3 laps in and big ruts are there (we ride at a private farm, and not many people are riding at a especific day, most guys just square everything) whatching your videos has helped me alot! keep up the good work!
