I completely changed my riding style to match what you teach and I honestly cannot believe how much of a difference it makes. I feel way more comfortable and confident on the bike. I no longer feel the need to waste energy on sticking my leg out either. It’s crazy how much the rider triangle changes when you do it right. Thanks brotha for the kickass videos.

I mean it's one narrative for sure and I suppose it is dependent upon riding style. There's also Trail braking technique into a corner that other guys on dirt teach. Whatever works in the end

Is it the same technique on a tight inside corner? (Downshift, brake, no clutch)
@JimG19643 ай бұрын
I seem to over brake so I need to make throttle corrections in the corner so that is something I'm working on. Braking is tricky. Lowering my rear brake pedal helped a bit but braking is still a work in progress.

@@elcucuygarage gotten a little better , but when I’m standing I don’t feel the back brake doing anything until it’s locked up
@elcucuygarage5 ай бұрын
@@daneunderwood8683 definitely more common on certain bikes, example being the new rmz has a brake like a light switch. Changing boots will make a big difference, also setting your pedal height and kind of feeling with your tires, like entry speed : timing and pressure applied to the pedal. Also experimenting coming into a hard packed turn with loose stuff and sliding your rear end while standing up with your weight over or behind the foot pegs will let you know how hard you're bending your ankle in the "perfect position" to lock the wheel all the way up, then next pass through the turn just change from trail braking to "stomping" and lock it up, and find that window of modulation if there is any. And always make sure your brakes are bled semi often or frequently and your equipment is not roached. Hope your foot to brake pedal vagueness becomes a thing of the past.

Been to my local track twice, and its rut city but do I keep my foot on the pegs in turns?
@multitaskingskillss4 ай бұрын
sorry aj, but if I downshift first and then brake, for example from fourth gear to second, doesn't this lock the rear wheel? shouldn't I instead slow the vehicle down first and then downshift?
@themotoacademyYT4 ай бұрын
Not necessarily! You can use the engine braking to help slow you down, helps you stay off the brakes!
@multitaskingskillss4 ай бұрын
@@themotoacademyYT yes, but if I'm for example at 70 in fourth/fifth it doesn't make much sense to shift into second without braking. I think there are more negative aspects than anything else or am I wrong? Thanks for the reply

Doesn’t the bike die when the back break is used without the clutch? I come from street bikes so I use lots of front break and been trying to learn the back too.
@mathewflood1517 Жыл бұрын
If you use too much back brake, yes the bike will die. The key, and as AJ mentioned, is to use the perfect amount of front and rear to get the wheel chatter. It takes time to get this ratio down and probably will stall the bike a bunch until you get used to it, but once you nail it you’ll be fine and way more efficient braking.
@jopsball-turret6969 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for responding. That helps a lot. I’ve heard the chattering a few times and probably panic and hit the clutch. It’s good to know there’s a sweet spot to hit🤙

I’m curious as to why ‘both feet on the pegs’ was a talking point. Seems like this was a great corner for the inside foot to be out and could have benefited AJ’s mid corner speed … please correct me if I’m wrong, just a thought. Great video and keep up the good work
@ketofn Жыл бұрын
The foot on pegs technique is more for consistency father than instant speed and lap time decrease; with that being said, speed will come with the new consistency. So it’s definitely a good habit to have

Do you downshift without the clutch? I feel really awkward downshifting before braking since i always do everything together. I do use the clutch with my downshifts. For example i approach a corner in 4th and i want to take the inside line in 2nd , then should i downshift to 2nd gear without the clutch and then brake.. or with the clutch and then brake?
@Ibetrollingallday7 ай бұрын
