We can never really repay them for their sacrifices. Yet money hungry, lazy bums think we owe them reparations for slavery in the 1800s in the South. First, we owe them NOTHING because there really aren't decendants of slave owners. Second, they can't even produce evidence they're descended from slaves. Third, speaking for myself, all my maternal and paternal grandparents came here from Poland and Germany in the mid to late 1920s, so I have nothing to do with what happened in those years. They want reparations yet these men served with their lives and never asked for anything in return. And these people screaming reparations, they wonder why people have so many derogatory names for them. They deserve every name mentioned. Thankfully not all are the same. A vast amount want to work, have families, and rightfully earn respect.

I love these before and after photos of WW2, having recently discovered them on KZbin. They are moving, poignant and sometimes sad. I find it interesting how the people in the now photos and videos are just going about their business, probably unaware of what went before in the exact places they are standing, walking or driving. That someone’s young life was cut short in that very spot or that a brave unknown person was there for a second many years ago. It moves me to tears.

im so sorry about your father..he served a long way from home..as an englishman..i am grateful for all service paid in the sacrifice for freedom..not only american but particular the poles and the czechs..in our darkest hours when we were at breaking point in august 1940...our airfields had taking poundings..and we were running low on training airmen ..the polish and czech squadrons played a huge part in our survival..just like 1942 onwards with our bomber command and USAF Bombing daylight raids togeather we lost over 100,000 men...yet their deeds are largely forgotten...but not on our beautiful eastern counties where sadly most airfields are gone...but they all have the names and honour of those who gave their lives..and some still have musuems. ..and conning towers..your father was a true american serviceman...that he came from the mid west in kansas..all the way to here and onto europe knowing he could pay with his life ..sadly that generation like my grandad r.i.p (2003) experienced what we never would..my grandad served as a gunner in the royal navy attached to the merchant navy.. he was sunk in the malta convoys,but survived to then in the battle of the atantic..he never said much other than a horrific experience..of he had to help keep the flies off a pilot who bailed out in full degree burns..(to slow the infection) in north africa..knowing the poor man never stood a chance..how does anyone forget that experience..some people just rather not talk about it..but they are suffering inside. god bless all those who served and your dear father who served his state kansas his beloved country..i thank all those who served to protect the english soil i cherish

Caen is located in Normandy. Caen was crucial to tha Allies on D Day, it was the essential road & hinge of resistance to the American & British Allies. Caen remains one of the largest medieval fortresses in Western Europe. The battle for Caen was so severe & vicious, it lasted just under 2 months, so brutal, 73% of the city was destroyed & it is estimated that 3000 local children, women & French civilians died in the onslaught. An estimated 2500 tons of bombs were dropped on the city. The Allies underestimated the German resistance. Of all the wreckage, the Abby (Cathedral) survived, and the hospital. The Abby became a refuge for the victims of war-torn Caen.

Well, the Allies were in a hurry to defeat Germany. And they made it easy for themselves. What they did around Caen is called a scorched earth war. The civilian casualties of these bombings were significantly higher. The Americans killed more civilians in the liberation of France than the Germans in the invasion and 4 years of occupation. But people don't like to talk about it because the French had to be grateful.

i met an ederley american on a coach into victoria station (west london for those not sure)..about 20 years ago..he was in his mid/late 80s so he would be sadly long gone now...however i got chatting to him..over his visit etc..i find our cousins across the pond really good people...he was visting his english grand children,and he was a veteran of omaha beach..of which i was astounded..of not only the bravery (of which every service man/woman involved) the fact he survived even being injured..he said not a day goes by of that day..god bless him..just like my own grandad who passed away in 2003, he was a royal navy gunner attached to the merchant navy..he was sunk on the malta convoys..survived then fought in the battle of the atlantic..my grandmother was in amunitions..my grandad ,shown me photos of him and his crew mates docked in texas..about 1940..obviously there on maybe the lendlease act or something to do the us navy and royal navy manoevers etc clearly the U.S navy was anticipating a year before pearl harbour..future involvement..how on earth did japan/ germany completely disregard not only the power of the U.S military..but the sheer power of the american workforce..im from the northeast (middlesbrough) but lived most of my life on the south coast..just outside pompey(portsmouth)..obviously for our american friends..the training/departure points mean a lot to them ..whereas for us..it was the summer of 1940. .during those few weeks..which were critical if our brave airmen had lost control of the air..we would of fought to the last..but an invasion would of happened..a different world altogether..thankgod for the few as we called them..also by 1944, southampton,portsmouth,plymouth,bristol just to name a few..had taking poundings..so no love was lost on absolutely hammering those german positions..god bless all those in those june 1944 days

These photos remind me that we take peace for granted in the West. Our forefathers and foremothers had so much love for us, the future generations that they made so many sacrifices for in WW2. My prayers are with those fighting in conflicts today.

@tazman5725 ай бұрын
@samueljohnson7068 I never found that special person in life to marry and have a family with. I have no children. When I was 40 years old, I met a woman on the internet in a chat room, and things went from there. She was divorced and had two daughters aged 12 and 15. I found it hard because I was single up to that point in my life, and she lived 1150 kms away. 23 years later, I now know that my purpose in this world is to give her the love and good life that she deserves.

God bless all branches of military. The different coutries around the globe who all came together to stop the evil that was spreading all across Europe and was murdering all nationalities. We owe all those people and resistance our lives and freedom. My mother was 14 years old when WW2 started. God bless the greatest generation and those around the globe. All of you will forever be remembered. Thank you!!!!!!

Another evil is now spreading around Europe. The difference is that this new evil is being let in voluntarily by Europeans. As a non westerner living far away from Europe, I don't want Europe to fall because if Europe falls, the entire world will have to go through a new dark age.
