Without wishing my life away I can’t wait to move to Thailand. Tired of the UK, the negligence around me. When I took a career break and lived in Chanthaburi life was so much more enjoyable. It’s all about being a positive, happy spirit and in the main Thailand and Thai people provide this

I live by myself in rural Thailand and if I didn't watch youtube news I wouldn't know things are changing so much. I've lived in many beautiful places like paradise. And you can't keep people out of paradise. The catch is that when too many people come, it ceases to be paradise. So either one accepts those changes or gets out there to find the next undiscovered paradise. One tip is to find a nice place, quite nice, but not so amazing that it will ever create a mass flood of interest. That should be good for a couple decades.

that's right!.. 100% agree that first thing we need to do is learn the language to be able to communicate with the people. Without it , always we will feel isolate and no integrate.
@zzzzzach8 ай бұрын
I've been lazy to learn the language, coasting by on the roughly 200 words and phrases I know. I have maybe 200 more vocabulary cards in front of me and a few youtube channels that teach Thai. In that sense it's never been easier to learn. I need to get more motivated.

One of my reasons for leaving Thailand is indeed the language. After 6 years, just a few handfuls of words I speak and understand. Thai, tonal language is absolutely not my thing. It might be age, it might be my reduced hearing.. not getting it. I don't speak Spanish or Portuguese but after 6 weeks in Brazil I spoke and understood more than I do Thai... Probably because i grew up with Germanic and Latin languages. It really s*cks to not speak and understand. One of the things that makes me directly feel at home in the Philippines is to be able to chitchat with random strangers... So good to be able to do this again!!!

My close friends are just coming back to Poland from the UK after 12 years there. The style of life they wanted, and actually lived - no longer there. An interesting thing is that the very moment they decided to come back to Poland, we decided to move to Thailand. Just bought a house in Krabi. We're in our 40s, with a 12 yo daughter. We've been preparing for such a move for a few years, it is not spontaneous. We are humble, we are trying to blend in, we love the culture, we love the people, we love the weather, we show that, we get that back. What you give is what you get.

Hi Ryan, been watching your channel for years, I have built a house with my wife and 3 kids in rural Thailand not far from you, I'm in a town called nong song hong. I've been up and down from Australia to Thailand for about 5 years now trying to save money to build this home. At the moment things are finished with the house and going back to Australia again to save more money to pay some debt save for my visa and concentrate on a business here with my wife. It's very hard to live in Australia with the way the economy is going food and essentials have gone through the roof, that's why we decided to try to make the move here in rural Thailand. Your channel did give me that push to do it, it's going to take a bit more time maximum a year but I really want to live here in the long term and I'm fighting for it.

I've done a fair bit of travelling in my time and have learned that if, due to fond memories, you decide to revisit a place, be prepared for bitter disappointments, especially if you haven't been there for a few years. I could relate a few personal examples before 'the penny dropped' but as I've done so before on your channel, I'll quote the lyrics of a 1964 song by Bob Dylan. Come gather 'round people Wherever you roam And admit that the waters Around you have grown And accept it that soon You'll be drenched to the bone If your time to you is worth savin' And you better start swimmin' Or you'll sink like a stone For the times they are a-changin' On a footnote, you mention 'it's their village' etc. but also. may I add it's YOUR life and YOUR choices. As always, keep on keeping on keeping on, love and peace to you all.

I have had a long history with Thailand starting in 1971 as a communications specialist in the US army. Stationed along the Thai/Lao border in Esan. Moved back to Thailand in 1983 and studied Thai language in Bangkok. Later moved to Chiang Mai for 4 years. After that lived in rural Esan for 6 years. One of the drawbacks from living in the rural northeast is your overall health. We had dysentery and bouts of parasites often. At one point I had Typhoid fever and nearly succumed. A wonderful Thai doctor in Nakhon Phanom saved my life. We returned to the States in 1995 as my wifes' father was very sick. She took care of him until he passed in 96. We have made many trips back to visit and stay with Thai friends. I have been retired now for over 10 years and would love to move back to the rural northeast. I am 74 but my health is still good. My wife's however is only so so. We still love Thailand and our friends there very much. Best wishes to you Ryan and to your lovely wife and children. Our dear Thai friends call us Maitri and Pranee. Gratitude is so important and so often overlooked, I'm glad you had time to reflect on that together. We are fortunate to be living here and to have found true love with our respective partners. I can't recall any bad experiences walking with my wife but I don't have a good explanation as to why that might be. In our circle of friends there is a lot of hugging and we are by far the most affectionate couple. I like to think we read the room well and adjust our behavior accordingly but we may just be lucky with where we have lived and the people we spend time with.

Thailand is advancing at a rapid rate, and good for them, but is most definitely a different place to what it was 12 years ago. It is much more expensive, in that the baht was at about 35 baht to the Aussie $ back then and of course things were much cheaper than now, in costs. The Thai people attitude to foreigners has also changed, for the worse, since covid, when Thai people were told countless lies by the Thai govt, (how dirty we are), and believe that it was westerners that naught covid to Thailand as opposed to the Chinese.

A lousy meal filled with preservatives at McDonald's used to be $4 99 for a burger/fries/drink before the pandemic is now $9.99 for the same meal just a couple of years later!!! Is that the same rate in Thailand??

I’m from the South, I have a lovely home in the heart of St Margarets next to twickenham. We have beautiful parks around the river thames and lots of cafes, bars and pubs.. and theatre in Richmond. I feel lucky to spend my time there & back here in Chiang Mai where we have a beautiful home out in the country with my wife & 6 dogs. However, there is no doubt that the UK is suffering, Covid and the energy prices have push it to the limits. The NHS, Rail, schools.. immigration! the list is long where bad management has caused damage.. but it will bounce back. Everyone has to take stock of their lives & chose what’s good for them.. give the uk a break and take another look at it later..

I'm from the South too, not far from where you live. The UK is in decline because of the unadulterated, unfettered greed of the last 14 years of the regime we have (difficult to call them a government). If you are upper middle class or higher, life is good. If you're lower middle class, working class or poor, life in the South (as in most parts of the UK) is a constant struggle. The fabric of society has changed in the UK for those aforementioned classes. The corruption and "feather my own nest" mentality of many of our current MPs has destroyed the UK. Its made me feel, I love my country but my country doesn't love me. It'll take years to repair but I feel it's beyond the pale. The "I'm alright jack. Pull up the ladder" way of thinking is too ingrained.

It’s poor management.. allowing misappropriation of funds.. thailand is no stranger to this too.. the rich taking advantage of the poor..

We live in an ever changing world so no place will be what it used ro be. I have really learned that about Thailand since my first visit here 1980. I have no plans to leave Thailand even though "it's not what it used to be.:
