Hey Ryan, I totally agree with you about living in the countryside in Thailand. I have been in Thailand 16 years now and spent 13 years in the Korat area and a little of that was in a small village. Then my Thai friend talked me into moving to Bangkok. It was the worst mistake that I have done. I am now planning a move in October to the countryside of Sakon Nakhon. My friend has 4 rai of land and I will build a house and live out my days there. I will also make trips to other countries as I can afford it. I have friends in the area so it will be good for me. I was raised in the country 10 miles from the nearest town so I can fit in with no problem.

Thanks Ryan for another interesting vlog. One of the bits of info you omitted for those wishing to move to Rural Thailand, is availabilty of electricity and water which you need to check befors you by land. In some Rural areas in Isaan, it is not possible to use the artesian water, as it is too salty for both crops and human consumption, a problem we encountered. However we were lucky to be able to tap into the village supply, nearly a kilometre away by negotiation with the village chief. Obviously we had to pay for the pipeline which wasn't too expensive. Electricity was a little more problematic and took many months to sort out, and was quite expensive. Internet availability can also be a problem as broadband or fibre optic cables are sometimes difficult to obtain in rural areas. However, all these problems are minor compared to the benefits of a rural life, especially the wealth and variety of wildlife, particularly the insects which I love, even though I have been attacked by angry wasps on more than one occasion, I still find them fascinating crestures! God Bless you and the family as always 😇🙏❤

We live roughly 50 km from Chiang Rai town and moved here 16 years ago after 30 years in Bangkok. What attracted me most was the beautiful nature and access to mountains, rivers, reservoirs, trails and excellent roads for driving, motorbiking, or cycling. The view from my house is stunning and we are blessed with good power, water, internet and plenty of space for our cats and dogs. The social life is probably the main drawback. Most expats live closer to town and have very different interests and levels of experience here in Thailand. We live a very comfortable life but our closest friends don’t live anywhere near us and it isn’t always easy to find time to meet up somewhere. We have found things we like doing to keep us active and healthy, and fortunately we really enjoy each other’s company even after 26 years together so it all works out for us but I imagine not many people would fancy our lifestyle. I don’t mind our 45 minute drive to town but I don’t want to do it more than two or three time in a week. Anyway, there are many ways to do rural Thailand and not all of them include farming or living with the relatives. I very much agree that it works better if you have an amazing partner and I wouldn’t be very happy living on my own.

You're definitely right about not needing a social lifestyle, took time to adjust too, but I enjoy the peace and essentially being free of social stress or dramas. It definitely feels abit werid seeing another farang in town (which is rare for me), you both know you're there and you feel like you should almost acknowledge each other or say hello, but it never happens lol 😂

All my life I have been living rural in the outskirts of Sofia city... We had animals, a 600 square meters of land and all of the good stuff, man. But I would really like to emphasize on the animal care and management: You pointed out everything so correctly, real, and raw, but really, people who do want to live in rural environments and want to focus on raising animals, which I prefer to call Beings, should understand the seriousness of the matter. If you take care of living beings you should act promptly and understand their behaviours, characters and specific purposes in Life. Don't get cattle, let's say, if you don't know what their needs are. On that note, I just adore your approach man, you guys know your crafts well and got plenty of wisdom. All Beings look so happy and in harmony. Setting their habitat is one thing, but giving as much energy and thought into the care itself, is a whooooole another matter. If one goes living rural, one should be prepared for the 24/7, 365 Management position! Salute, Guru, you are the best!

God I could live there tomorrow without a second thought. The country life, the animals, the nature, rain is completely me. My problem is my corporate life and a wife who would never move to the country. Rock and hard place comes to mind. Lol. I envy your lifestyle brother. You have so much to be proud and happy about. I work as a highly specialist ICT project manager, so my career has no option whatsoever to live like I really want to. Sigh.

The nomad visa is a stream of the LTR "long term residency" 10 year visa and in true thai style it has nothing to do with residency 😅 I'm currently working from Bangkok on this visa. The benefits are come and go as you like, much less expensive than the Elite @ 50k baht for 10 years but the best thing is probably no reporting and zero tax for nomad stream. Downside is the requirements to get it, if you don't work for a large company it would be very hard to obtain. Hope this helps 😊

@@brendan_x_mac Hi, the visa stream is actually called "work from Thailand" so it's not really being sold as a nomad visa. The employer needs to be worth more than $250 million and doesn't need to be publicly listed but that's a bonus and it's easier for immigration to assess the company's value. You also need to have been employed for 3 or 5 years (sorry I can't remember which) and you need a minimum income (again I can't remember but it's on the BOI ltr website) for the last 3 years. For me timezones aren't a problem as I work for one of these evil global mega corporations 😁and work through many timezones. Hope this is helpful, happy to answer any questions on it. Cheers

Since the channel is about ranting too , you mentioned about beautiful rice field and noticed next to the rice field a ’perfect’ corn field most probably F1 hybrid corn seeds and at what price were the seeds purchased by the farmer? We need to also understand how agro-industries companies have made huge profit on chemical fertilisers as well as chemicals used on most vegetables or cereal grown in Thailand. Lot’s of rural farmers have lost the traditional way of growing rice and corn.I am pretty certain that the corn field has been chemically treated to repelled insects or fungus .Same as in western world produce more and the benefits falls to very few food processing companies. Wondering to what extend living in rural Thailand is as healthy as we may think?!

I live in 'rural' Thailand, but not really. I am in a provincial capital (Nong Bua Lam Phu) in Northwest Isan. I never know what to tell people when they ask if I am rural or urban. I guess if compared to you Ryan, it would be more urban, but its just a few clicks away from being in the middle of nowhere. It's a happy medium I suppose By the way, speaking of snakes, have you come across any large pythons? Keep it up, It's inspiring watching you and your family

Some other considerations in rural Thailand are few if any western restaurants nearby; noise from animals - dogs, roosters, cows; smoke nuisance from neighbours burning off rice stubble, vegetation waste, cooking fires; loud neighbours who yell to each other, play loud music and teenagers on loud motorbikes; and be prepared to wake up early with or before sunrise as all the neighbours do.

Nice bit of information on living in rural Thailand. Personally I wouldn't consider it unless I was fluent in Thai language. That would be essential for me otherwise I would never speak to anyone but my wife. But as a bit of a lazy bastard it would probably be nice to be sitting around a lot of the time. I would want a swimming pool though for exercise. I guess it's possible to have a pool in rural Thailand, but all the locals would probably want to use it. Keep the videos coming, still one of my, must not miss vloggers.

I found when I moved to Nakhon Phanom that one of the things I really had to get used to was the paradox where Buddhism states that cruelty to animals should be avoided, yet they break the legs of the frogs they intend on eating sometimes days later. Also the pladuk (catfish) in tubs writhing against each other with essentially no water. I can't count the number of stray dogs I have seen killed by a car targeting them to deliberately kill them at random. Thai people are super nice, until they aren't, and the transformation from nice to homicidal is startlingly quick for a farang.

1) A single person can't buy a farm so no worries on the gf situation. The risk's of getting involved with gf or parental land ownership are the number one reason for deliberation. How much investment are you prepared to walk away from. 2) The culture difference is vast. The indigenous are hive minded. Westerners are always outsiders and second to family unless you control the purse string's from the outset. 3) The local Esan diet is unacceptable to many westerners. 4) Attitudes toward land boundaries, garbage and privacy can be exasperating. 5) You need to be comfortable alone and you have to be diplomatic with annoying neighboring farmer's. Cow's and dogs can be problematic. 6) The farm can be the best quality life in Thailand for some, but realism is essential and minimize emotional and financial involvement with external family. The farm life isn't suitable for most urban and citified westerners. 🙏
