Hi there , my wife and I love your videos and you always make us laugh with your comments . We mainly hired boats on the Norfolk Broads but did a few canal trips too! I'm a retired mechanic so found the probs with the gearbox interesting , I reckon that old Lister may have Whitworth/ BSF threaded bolts and nuts , so your engineer would have found it difficult to obtain replacements ! Can't wait for the next video, you are doing a grand job!👍

Heidi, if you keep having problems with loose nuts either use self locking nuts or use Loctite thread lock on the studs when you tighten up the nuts, or use flat washers and spring washers under the nuts or you could get a handful of new nuts and tighten them down on top of the original nuts and this will lock them together. If this has confused you send me a message or mention all these methods to an engineer next time you have the opportunity. Heidi, when you get someone to check the tightness of the nuts perhaps you should ask about spring washers under the nuts and or using Loctite to stop them loosening again. In fact itmight be a good idea to use Loctite on all the gear selection assembly to stop them coming loose again.

Either Spring washers underneath the Nuts or the old method wind a second nut down the protruding thread of the stud and tighten them against one-another 👍👍👍

Ahoy Heidi & chief mate Bonny, glad you managed to get your box sorted and the crank rods and sniffling pins checked along with the new trappit bolt and not to mention the smidgling pop and nudging nut. All these technical jobs on your engine need an experienced chap and your friend is certainly the man to help. Did he look at the baffling plate while he was doing it? You ought to carry a spare hammering dodgeit, they usually last five years but if it does fail then it stops your bow falling off into the water. Great you come across old and new friends, thats really lovely. Dunno about you but this storm whatsit has blown in last night down here in the south, it sounds like a bevvy of steam locomotives, its the wind tearing through the woods and the next 48 hours is going to be a bit rough. I noticed the seagulls wheeling about overhead yesterday, they come the 30 miles up the river away from the coast when they sense rough weather is a day away, better than any weather forecast! Fed the birds and pheasants before breakfast but only Bertie and his chum appeared and barely 2 or 3 blues, no blackbirds, the rest are hunkering down bless 'em. Take care, keep safe this weather and belay the big ends and make fast the rodding pins, and keep up with the warming tot o rum, keep the home fires burning lass. Best from old smuggler Frank, lash down ye olde trundling irons and make fast the bottles o rum!!😆😂😏❤
