Heidi, you never cease to entertain, educate and amaze me, but this is my fave video so far! The footage of the docks was incredible and took me back ta few years to when my daughter treated me to a stay in a posh hotel to do all the Albert Dock and Beatles-related things! I retired to rural Spain 4 years ago with my Lurcher (Ralph) and my cat (Kevin) with all my studio gear and guitars to listen to, record and write music. Your videos are a lovely glimpse of the country I left behind and I enjoy them immensely. Thank you so much.

Heidi, thank you the lovely trip into Liverpool. I have seen that trip a couple of times before but it is always interesting as you traverse these now silent docks. Back in the hey day you would have had to carefully navigate with a plethora of traffic arriving or departing across the world. Just imagine all those docks with the sailing ships of all sizes tied to the docks, disgorging wondrous cargo, or taking on the loads to go to the globe. There was also a busy trade in passengers, in and out of the port. Some of my forebears boarded their boats to come out to Australia to make a new life for themselves. Such a bustling busy port it must have been at the time. Again, thank you for taking us on this journey. One day I might just jump on a Hotel Boat for week or two of effortless cruising, meals found, and an open bar. Oh my goodness!

There are Videos on YT That show stills from back in the day and just how busy our Docks were here in Liverpool. The ships were lined up like Sardines in a can with hardly a space available. Most of my family went away to sea and then worked down on the Docks, it was a bustling place, even up to the 1960s But in the days of Sailing ships, it was something else.

Hi Betty, as a solo liveaboard boater for 12 years, now sadly retired, my method of coming up a single lock was to put the nose button on the forward gate and engage the morse control to gently hold the boat against the front gate. Get off the boat and operate the paddle. The boat will generally stay forward in the lock eliminating the need to keep chasing the boat with the centre line. The problem with a short boat is that you may go past the lock ladder making getting off difficult. Also need to make sure you have a clean rise on the forward gate. As the lock is nearly full get back on the boat and disengage forward gear. Look forward to comments.

Yes it sure was spitty weather there at the beginning. But the cruise is gorgeous!! That was great how your two boats traveled together, tied and buoyed together, sure saved time and work. Yep, a sudden increase in revs digs your stern down, you are so smart. And yet you don't know, do you ... is the shallowest part to port or starboard? or in the middle? What a super duper super pooper duper cruise through the Liverpool stuff!! And perfect music, just the right tension. 🙂 Ha, yes, spring tide is the highest tide, best time to go. Here in the pacific northwest of the usa, a spring tide almost always has calm wind too. By the time you read this comment of mine, you'll be across the Mersey and on about your journey, no sweat.
