Thanks for the report. I just stopped in to find out why people are leaving. Been here since 93. Taught scuba, 10 years..did many visa runs. Etc. Retired now. Started a charity in Buriram 12 years ago, so I've been driving back And forth from Pattaya once per month. Bring bicycles toys supplies etc. Plus, training muay thai. All this gives me Something to do. I don't drink or go inside bars , so I had to be creative. Love my life here ; it was a good decision

A major reason why people might be leaving the country in 2024 is the new tax regulations for full time residents, which is people staying over 180 days. As a full time resident you will have to file a return every year and provide proof that all of the money you bring into the country has been taxed. A huge hassle with possibly major financial impactions. I have watched several videos on this topic and all of them have a different interpretation of how it will be applied. I am waiting to see how this all plays out before I decide to move over there.

@@forlua9211 You will still have to get a tax number, provide all of the information they require, pay an accountant and file taxes. All of which were not required until this year. Who knows how they will enforce this. It might be nothing or it might be a huge hassle. Either way it is another hoop you will have to jump through in order to reside there full time on top of all of the other BS required to live there.

Ya, same for me. Been to the Philippines 13x and Thailand 4x in the last 5 years. Married to a Filipina. We are moving to the Philippines in about 6 months. The #1 thing I see with exapts are those who are on vacation...are having a great time...those who live there...usually appear miserable. Day to day life will be nothing like the 14 to 30 day vacation. If your the kind of person who sits in front of a TV 8 hours a day playing with the flicker....then sitting in small condo might be heaven. I run a large business and looking forward to retiring but man...doing nothing sounds extremely boring. I get bored in Phuket after 3 days. I live on the water in th FLorida...so water isn't that amazing to me. Worried.

I've heard, it's not the heat that's the problem over there, but the HUMIDITY, that's killing! Maybe that's why so many ex-pats hang around in bars (turning into juicers) to get a bit of social life but, mostly to get the air conditioning. However, if you want to chat to the bar girls, it could get a bit depressing just having very limited conversations in broken English all the time, along with the frequent demand of, "Buy me a drink, buy me a drink,..."

Some very sound advice especially on visas. If I may, I'd like to say research Thailand first, then the area that attracts you, cost of accommodation, location of apartments to required area, (size of apartments and costs of water and electricity). Nearby supermarkets and night markets for food etc. Finally do up a weekly budget and STICK to it. Blowing money is another reason people exit Thailand early.

Happy to see you getting the subs you deserve on this channel. I would say in my opinion the #1 reason that "many" people leave Thailand is "reality." They come to Thailand on "vacation" and enjoy Thailand on "vacation mode." They are spending money...like they are on vacation. Everything is fairly new...like they are on vacation. Its short time fun....becuse they are on vacation. Living in a place is NEVER the same as Vacationing in a place. Sometimes it can better....sometimes it can be worse. If you are coming to Thailand...drinking...loving the nightlife...paying for attention...and then go home and think to yourself, "Wow..that is heaven...I think I'll move there" than you are probably going to be seriously disappointed. For one...drinking gets very old for both your physical and mental health. Secondly, paying for attention is just that...paying young woman to act like you are gwapo and your jokes are funny. You will go broke trying to maintain this level of attention. But on the flip side...have a stable place to live and get your underwear cleaned is nice too. I would not come here...drink...party...and then go back and want to move here for the fun you had. It will not last and if you can for the fun and party girls only....and that runs its course...you have nothing left for why you are there. You need a reason beyond the party and younger females that will tell you that you look 20 years younger and they think your pop belly is sexy.

Thx so much for all the info. I am 62 and do want to live there but my wife doesn't want to move so I will just visit a few months a year to play tennis, tennis and more tennis, lol. I love going to Lotus (banking and massage, can't beat the convenience) and the other malls near Phuket Town. The beaches are nice too. I stay in Bangkok a few days near BTS #5 and LOVE it. Tennis too, lol. I must confess as an American hearing all VISA issues makes me wonder what the heck is going on here in USA. It's the total opposite but thx for the heads up. I still love my wife so I guess I will just some wintering, lol. I will visit Hau Hin next trip. My Phuket friends say the traffic is getting worse and trust me it was already bad. I'm surprised that wasn't a main issue. Thx for the great video. I miss Phuket everyday. Nothing like a few hours of tennis, a walk/run, the beach and fresh watermelon!!!

I have been to Thailand multiple times, one issue is the Language barrier. Going on 60 is a little too late to learn a new language.I would recommend that you have income to live on. It's not too late to do anything! I'm 62 and just started learning Thai. It's actually coming surprisingly easy, but that's probably from learning Chinese the last few years. Just understand that it will be super slow in the beginning and you may feel like an idiot, but it's slowly building. Trust the process, put in the work, and it will come. Also, get a Thai girlfriend that doesn't speak English :). In China they call that a "long hair dictionary". I'm with you on the heat, brother. I spent enough cold days in Canada that I love the heat. Bring it on!

These are indeed the reasons people leave after a couple months! Another topic - I have noticed the #1 most common reason expats leave after many years living in Thailand is that they never learned how to speak Thai, and never made it outside the narrow confines of expat life. They look to recreate their comforts back home while enjoying a much cheaper living cost, rather than ever taking a genuine interest in Thailand or Thai culture. Ultimately they remain a completely ignorant fool in a foreign land and are treated as such, and slowly but surely develop a bitter resentment for Thailand which ends up in them going back home. These are the foreigners complaining about everything: Thai food, messy infrastructure, two-faced Thai people only out for their wallet, etc etc. I would say they make up the overwhelming majority of disgruntled expats who have been here for many years.

@@paulh7798You do not need health insurance if you are here extending a nonimmigrant O visa. The health insurance requirement is required for a few other visas like the OA, LTR, and I think the OX.

If u wanna relocate to Thailand under 50 u need to have money or income from your home country... then visa option is easy: elite visa If u don't like the hear, stay in your cold home country , easy.. lol.. I myself love the warm weather, rather the cold European one!!

I receive 100% VA disability rating and get about $4000/month. I want to retire in Thailand but someone told me that I would lose that benefit if I move out of USA. I'm having a hard time financially in the USA I wish I can go to Thailand but I can't!

Make your appointments with your VA Doctor every 6 months. Remember to reroute your Mail to a Family Member in US or Colonies like Puerto Rico, Marshall Islands or Virgin Islands. Try Thailand that for 6 months and make a Video Chat with your VA Doctor or fly every 6 months to US

This is erroneous info. I lived overseas and had no issues. Look up the issue yourself and stop listening to “someone”.

@terryhunter3873 I don't think it's erroneous. I have a friend who's a VSO. He has been handling my benefits and financial affairs and I pay him a little stipend monthly. I would think he knows a little more than you.

Just do not get a Non-O in your home country. Get a Tourist visa and when you come here let an Agent get your retirement visa sorted for the next 15 months.
