Konstantin Kissin put it in perspective when he said “More people in the UK were put in jail because of what they said on social media last year than RUSSIA 🇷🇺” Yes. The UK has fallen.

Uh, considering they arrested thousands of people in the recent protests over Navalny, I seriously doubt that. They just don’t bother reporting it when Rosgvardia shows up. It’s like saying the Russian economy is booming, then realizing that’s only because it has entered a war time economy - which is devastating to midterm to long term economic health. I’m not even from the UK and can smell the BS.

My mother is 83 yrs old and is a native born Thai citizen. We brought her back to Thailand to retire in a assisted living facility in Chiang Mai, she cannot afford to live in a US based assisted living facility. After living in the US for over 5 decades, its a change for her as she has become accustomed to living in the US for many years. She's gone back and forth to Thailand to live, but this time its permanent for her. I was there with her for the visit to the facility, and the service is exceptional and attention to the residents is nothing like I've never seen. She is indeed in good hands. As a Thai-American, born in Thailand in 1972, I'm seriously considering to retire somewhere in SE. Asia, most likely Thailand if I can get a Thai citizenship.

I lived in Bolton for 18 years after I did my nurse training there. In 2005 we moved to Cumbria where my sister and parents were living. It's so much more of a community feel as there are people who've lived there all their lives , especially farmers. I don't tend to look back on my life and regret anything but I wish I'd been braver and travelled more so I could make a choice if I stayed in the UK or not. I've always loved the way that the Thai culture is so much more family orientated. It is very much all about family and taking each day as it comes. Much less stressful way of life that ultimately will keep you healthier for longer.

Entirely possible. As a Canadian, if you think you have a life threatening issue, you need to go to emergency and wait for hours. Typically if you have a real emergency you'll get treated. But nothing compared to what I hear of Thailand or Vietnam, where excellent care seems immediately available at reasonable price.

Unfortunately you are absolutely correct about the NHS and the state of the economy in the UK. I've retired after 40 years as a nurse who woked full time with no breaks. There is a definite gap between the North and South and it is all about wealth. The UK government is absolutely shot at. No one trusts the politicians. During covid all the PPE was delivered by contractors who had ties with the government in some form. If we start to look at how we deal with illegal immigrants we're called racist so no one says anything about how they feel. Stay where you are.... you're happy with Damo, your sons, the in-laws and your way of life. Keep happy.

Medical is great here in Thailand but if you have a serious issue it's suddenly not cheap. Note; some illnesses can't be avoided; cancer is random chance more than anything, and congenital issues like T1 diabetes and lipids are real. So be grateful for the ability to create good health, is my advice, and compassionate for those less fortunate.

people will blame immigration, but also want their house prices and rental returns to increase (more immigration does exactly this). people will blame taxes, but will want their healthcare and amenities to be top notch. people will blame a sole politician for inflation, but continue to be docile against giant corporations. people will blame low wages. but put biliionaires on a pedestal. people will blame the first person theyre told to blame in their circles (friends, mass media). but they will never blame themselves for their own hypocrisy. its easier to fool a man than to convince him he's a fool. we have built this problem in our home countries, unconsciously. thailand is an escape for me, from the growing division and mayhem in australia. i just hope people who move to thailand (or similar), with all that mayhem on their mind, can find peace and happiness. everywhere has problems, and i hope people can find a place that suits them, that gives them that feeling of freedom.

The native UK population is roughly 49 million people. All of our services are geared to service that amount. From the baby boom of the 50s and early 60s the population rose and was stable for roughly 40 years at 56 million people. There was a strain on goods and services but adjustments could be made - increased class sizes in public schools, remove te over reliance on public transport and increase the amount of fast routes and increases in private car ownership, removal of council houses and switch to private Social Housing. The Thatcher government effectively destroyed nationalised heavy industry, the Major and Blair governments destroyed manufacturing. Therefore the options for employment are service industries, mobile phone call centres etc. The current population is 66.97 million (thats now three years out of date so..) in reality the population is approximately 69.7 million and projected to rise by 5 million by 2030 (that's most likely an underestimate). The system is still geared for a population of 49 million. No wonder everything is grinding to a halt.

I know nothing about your goverment really. I'm american but I know this. It aint the govt. that destroyed manufacturing, its basically greed. See people like you fail to realize this. If a publically traced company #1 and basically only purpose is to make as much money as they can for its stockholders. That is what they will do. So with that being said. This is why your country imports a lot of things and plus you are on a damn island basically. In American we import quite a bit and we do not have to import a lot of things, but its cheaper. Its actually way cheaper to build someting in asia for us. Put it on a cargo ship, than for it to be made in america. Our labor cost are a alot more. So you need to direct a lot of complaint to the companies but your country is expensive and its always been like that

Regarding the national treasure that is the NHS, here's my recent experience .... Slipped some discs in my lower back at work on a Monday, laid up in bed trying to call my doctors, can't get through as it's permanently busy. Ended up calling the NHS 111 helpline on Saturday hoping to get some strong medication , unfortunately they tell me to call my doctors on Monday and continue to rest up . I finally give up with the NHS and buy the medication online which is delivered the next day.... In my view the NHS is completely broken by the sheer numbers using it.... I've used the healthcare system in Cambodia a few times in my life and can honestly say it's much better service. The NHS works well if you have an accident and are brought in by ambulance to be fixed up, but if it's a problem that needs an investigation it can take months until you see someone.

Having not been living in the UK for 10 years I am not entitled to free health care anymore. As for hospital and dentist you can walk in and get seen straight away. My dentist I use in Bangkok, i walked in they checked my teeth and actually said no charge. Food as in fresh fruit excellent in Thai markets. Depending on lifestyle people many say they can live in Thailand next to nothing. I rent a 1 bedroom condo in Bangkok near Asoke. 20000 baht includes electric, water, WiFi. Fully furnished. Has a spacious balcony, rooftop walk, swimming pool, fitness etc. In UK I would get an unfurnished 1 bedroom flat, pay for electric, gas and council tax. I had been working in the oil and gas industry in Thailand from 2009 to 2016 and am working in Malaysia at present but live Bangkok. I am over 60 now. I felt Thailand was my home so I have a bit of money in Thailand bank so no need to transfer any for tax. I am good for no transfer for 6 years. People have different lifestyles and as regards the taxation a Thai accountant would keep you right on income you bring in to Thailand. For me I feel safer here in Thailand than UK and I enjoy a quiet lifestyle. My Thai partner actually has a big family, she has a few companies and if anything she makes more than my working in the oil and gas industry. She wants me to retire. I did not buy a house for her. She bought a house for me.

Just watched your video and listened to your comments about people worried about becoming unwell while in Thailand, I am one of those people and what you said is correct and you should not worry about becoming unwell and just enjoy life, I had a stroke 10 years ago when I was 52 and it makes you worried about what is around the corner, my wife is Thai and we both live in the UK and last year my wife had a house built which is in the same village that her parents live, so I have no excuse really for not moving to Thailand, my wife needs another year national insurance to get a UK pension. She is a British citizen, so now a Duel citizen... My plan at the moment is to spend winters over in Thailand and spring and summer in the UK. Lets wait and see but you made an interesting point about worrying about illness

Anyone wondering what is happening to Britain's human population could do worse than chart what happened to its red squirrel population. Greys were introduced which not only declined to assimilate or cohabit with the native reds but, as the greys' numbers increased and outweighed the reds', once a tipping point was reached, the greys saw no need to even go so far as to coexist with the reds. Nowadays, apart from a very small and vanishing few communities, there's no red squirrels left at all. Population replacement has been achieved for the grey squirrels and tipping point has also now been passed with regard to the humans. Heading West is no use as the same is happening to Canada and America (in addition to Australia and New Zealand). Best thing indigenous Brits could do is have their kids learn Russian because sooner, rather than later, they'll have to head back to the Caucasus, where the word "Caucasian" originates and we once hailed from... End of.

The analogy with humans and squirrels is interesting. However, unlike humans, red squirrels and grey squirrels do not interbreed. We can only speculate if this was the case also for humans.
@SebDangerfield-yu7cm8 ай бұрын
@@Philip_Thornton Good point (excepting it's not strictly true). There has been not wholly insignificant interbreeding between the two subspecies of squirrel (very few greys are of entirely grey ancestry as is even so far as visually apparent through red/ginger coat speckling evident, if largely unnoticed by a casual observer). DNA sequencing has long confirmed as much. Yet, just as MOST greys and reds did not interbreed, so it is with MOST native Anglo-Saxon and Celtic heritage with Asian, Afro-Caribbean and Middle Eastern humans.... Some, but not even approaching an habitual practise. Greys tend to be larger, stronger, more disagreeable (aggressive) and especially territorial (very much influenced by available food resources). Reds often appear visually larger but such is only due to their thicker coats more suited to cooler climate and which also goes to explain why most remaining red pockets are geographically located to the Northern outskirts of the British Isles. A notable exception to this is the Channel Islands which only red squirrels inhabit, but only because no greys have (yet) been introduced there. But I appreciate your remarks. Bold statements, such as my original comment, should always be questioned and validated. It's good to see that a willingness to question and debate hasn't yet been drubbed out of all of us (try though some may).

Great content, Ryan. You properly keep saying .. "This is just my opinion" .. but I think that is the exact point of all this. Seeing Thailand (or any country) as good or bad, strengths and weaknesses, largely depends on your own personal mind-set. If you're thinking is more geared toward exploration and excitement in experiencing new cultures, etc, then Thailand still has lots to offer. But if you live in fear (as you correctly point out), and only visit tourist and exploited places like Phuket, then yes, of course your opinions are likely going to be more inclined to focus on the negative. Get out of your "comfort zone" if your zone is already one of fear-based and a self-limiting view. Go see the regions (even simply the outskirts of Bkk, etc) .. you don't have to go far .. and experience the smiles of the locals and understand that not being in complete control of your environment is OK, enlightening, and downright fun. Go live life! Yes, obstacles (visas, taxes) will come. But obstacles will exist wherever in the world you live.

Hi! New follower here, and I'm enjoying your channel! My husband and I are from the US, and have lived in Thailand for almost 9 years now. I have seen visa options getting harder and more complicated over the years. It's frustrating. We're definitely not happy about that, but considering the cost of living, outrageous bureaucracy, and overall stressful atmosphere in the USA, we would definitely not move back there. We have considered other countries more recently, but they all have their problems. Once we moved away from a popular tourist area to a small (mostly Thai) beach town, life has been mostly great! I would like to add that I'm pretty jealous over your fluency in speaking Thai. I'm still trying, and it has not been easy!

I'm a 59 yr old male who never tended to my health and the past two years I've been doing nothing but going to Drs , hospitals to address all my health issues, so I'd have to disagree with proximity to a good health care facility. Thailand has some great hospitals so I'd never worry about living there in a few years bit definitely need to be within 30 minutes to a place to deal with my issues. I'd agree with you if I wasn't so messed up. It sucks being ball and chain to seeing Drs. Good, you have your health.

Well, I guess your perspective on "countries" reflects that you are British? Most countries exist because of their population's culture and language. The exact "line" between countries may be a bit awkward based on history or military incidents, but each country has its own language. I am impressed that you have learned Thai! And even got the "Asia man wagging walk!" Very nice! I think maybe that Thailand's lax rules for foreigners to stay for prolonged periods might be the reason you have so many of them in Thailand. In rural East Africa, we are few because you really have to embrace the culture and be humble to live here. And long-term visas are very expensive. But of course, you can isolate yourself culturally here too, and then there is no problem. Except for the cost of the long-term visa.

I love the local markets. Some of the best Thai food you can hope to find at cheap prices. It’s a sensory adventure, which your video encapsulated. I lived and worked in Isan for about 11 years before returning to the UK to train as a teacher. Although I had visited briefly during that time, it was only after coming back to live, study, and work in the UK that I truly appreciated how bad things had become there. The infrastructure is in a terrible state due to 14 years of poor upkeep, and nothing seems to work anymore. There are several factors contributing to this, all of which can be attributed to poor governance. Ultimately, any Tory government will likely aim to decentralise governance and reduce the size of the state, as it is at the core of their beliefs. This approach has consequences such as massive potholes, long waiting lists, and insufficient police and fire services. In limited ways, Thailand has what the conservatives aspire to: a decentralised state where those who can afford it choose to pay for better services. However, anyone who has seen the inside of a Thai government hospital ICU or general ward can attest that it serves as a sharp reminder that it is a developing country. Patients are packed closely together, with relatives sleeping under beds and patients on floors. Sadly, these are things that we have begun to witness in the UK over the last decade. The Tory obsession with privatisation has sold our national assets to Tory donors, all at mates rates. Assets that have been paid for by the public. Can anyone honestly give me any examples of where privatisation has benefitted the taxpayers and end users? It’s corruption pure and simple. The UK has become increasingly divided in terms of wealth, with some people driving Porsches and Range Rovers while others struggle to afford food and heating. I believe uncontrolled migration has had a significant impact on the country. Despite the Tory government's supposed tough stance on migration, it seems that the floodgates have been opened. Simultaneously, the government has been vilifying desperate immigrants arriving in rubber boats across the English Channel, even though they make up only a small portion of overall migration. I think this has been a deliberate tactic to stoke fear in the population and push people towards the right wing. It seems to be the Tories' only hope of remaining in power, but I believe most people can now see that they are the ones responsible. I'm hopeful that things will change under a new government in the UK. However, it will be an uphill battle and it will take a long time. People need to be given hope and the infrastructure that underpins any chance of development needs to be repaired and in some cases replaced. I don't think Labour is perfect by any means, but the last few years have exposed how corrupt the current government is. I have never been a fan of the Tories but I had never quite realised how nasty and thieving they are. I didn’t realise how long I’d rambled on for…I’ll get off my soapbox!!

Well Sushi I don't FUNDAMENTALLY disagree with what you have written - that's the first thing to say. However, I see and I believe that one of the biggest problems in our parliamentary system is the ABSOLUTE POLITICAL CORRUPTION WITHIN THE PARTY SYSTEM. Labour policies will vigorously advocate all of the worst Tory policies that are bankrupting the British people! I don't even trust TICE and REFORM! Ultimately we need a House of INDEPENDENT MP's who aren't selected by any party and who are KNOWN in their local areas for being people of INTEGRITY and MORAL HONESTY! Imho right now the British State is utterly corrupt and completely against the best interests of 99.9% of the British people! I hope to leave before Starmer really gets going at the end of this year and accelerates even more vigorously all the worst Tory policies! Sorry to offend you as I can tell you really like and trust Labour but just look at their policies!

That chicken is very expensive considering it is in Thailand. Was lucky to have lived in there when it was 55 baht to the Euro and when flights were half the price. Moved home after living in Koh Samui and Korat after 5 years. Main reason for leaving was the visa situation even though I married a Thai plus was fed up at being treated as a 3rd class citizen.

At current exchange rates only slightly cheaper in Thailand compared to the UK. Housing, Energy and Medical costs are always the "biggies" in any country. UK is especially uncompetitive when it comes to Housing, Energy and private Medical (since NHS is failing) costs and I'm a Brit saying this!

People are always going to emotionally react to everything you say based on their own world view, experiences, fears and anxieties. Facts and reality don't matter, people will always see things through their emotional lens. Making decisions based on an accurate understanding of the reality without the cloud of emotions, and being able to change your view when you get new information is how you create good outcomes.
