I don't think it would be that much help to would-be criminals. IN FACT, I bet you that since most of these crimes happened in the 80's and 90's, technology has advanced so much since then that if any would-be criminals are watching these episodes to learn what not to do, whatever they might think they could do to get away with it, technology by now is so much more advanced that law enforcement will be able to get them. Watching these episodes could actually trick would-be criminals into a false sense of security by making them think they can outsmart the cops but the criminal is completely unaware of current technology that could be used against them lol. Back in the 80's and 90's everyone still had land lines - that's how far we've come.

the freedoms & rights of all of us are trampled in order to catch killers who make up .001% of the population. sort of like people who send their dna in to ancestry companies to find out that they are 35% european, and 14% italian. law enforcement uses that genetic material of innocent people to find killers using familial dna matches, and its legal due to the EULA people sign when they send in their DNA. post 9/11 tapping phones, getting search warrants, and pushing the bill of rights aside has gotten a LOT easier for law enforcement. its is a troubling trend that most people seem oblivious to, in fact many cant even understand why its bad.

Brain fingerprinting. The lawyers would throw that out so fast it would make your head spin. If they can’t use the polygraph in court, no way in hell would they be able to use the brain fingerprinting.

Of course but it can point the detectives into getting search warrants, tails, bugs and save a lot of time in going through millions of people sometimes when they know Mr A is hiding something. But of course inadmissable as u or me right now could plan, act out in our heads each day and our brains would start to blend truth with fiction. Infact if u had a car crash in middle of this bizaare acting in the mind and went into a coma when u came out u may beleive u actually did it and your brain may too. So your brain would be lying without u remembering u were just doing it to prove a test inconclusive. !! Like lie detector tests. People have actually admitted on one as a joke and came back truth as they weren't anxious but cocky. So in that case police would probably b very annoyed as all there focus would be on getting other evidence on u if u refused to write a statement of guilt. Crazy. But as dolphins biologically create a sonar in there brain. I beleive aliens or one day humans would have telepathic powers and will be able to talk via mind. If they put money into finding what the "minds voice " is not just call it thought. They would probably restart our evolution. Which seems to have stopped.

Yes brain fingerprints just about right that the cops would be all for it. I mean nowhere else but in America have they jumped all over a lie detector test that has been proved so unreliable the courts won't let them in can you ever see them letting these in. Someone said to me a week or so ago he's surprised they accepted DNA in the courts. Well I'm not after all it's based totally on science that they can see not have to believe

FMRI is the new version of this. There's a book series called _Demon_ that explores this concept in-depth. You want to find out where they buried the body? Show satellite photos and zoom in on areas where their brain indicates recognition in response to the question, "Where did you bury her?" I am sure the likes of Homeland Security, the CIA / FBI are already using it during interrogations to find out where leaders or terrorist camps are hidden.

Exactly, innocent, or guilty always ask for a lawyer, remain silente until a lawyer that you have requested comes and advises you as to what to do, no matter how long the lawyer takes to come to see you takes and what they police try to ask you while you wait for your lawyer. They won’t leave you alone just because you asked for a lawyer. Until then do not say anything, or let any police around your home. You never know what police may have, they may have tunnel vision, or may even just plain ‘ole be trying to be pinning something on you. If you’re guilty, you need a lawyer more than ever. You’re never smarter than a gang of cops, the police always will out number you. I swear the case about the girl baking brownies was covered in another TV show. --Was it -_-Forensic Files?-_- Someone help me out.-- * It was the exact same scenario except they said she was baking cookies. I remember the coroner in that episode saying something to the effect that she was "so chaste she didn't even have pierced ears or painted nails," which I thought was a weird observation to make. Wasn't she also raped? You'd think they'd have DNA evidence, but maybe he couldn't get it up. *Edit:* Yes it was _Forensic Files,_ season 11, episode 5, "Nice Threads." Summary: Bible missionary student is murdered *whilst baking cookies* on Mother's Day Weekend for her mother. Police use a bloody palm print to provide forensic evidence as to the identity of her rapist and murderer.

I’ve used EEG (which is what they’re using for the so-called ‘Brain Fingerprinting’) and whoever you’re testing has to sit so still in order to not create interference with the signals, that there is absolutely no way they would be able to use this practically! I can’t see someone who is trying to hide their guilt just happily sitting there and being hooked up to this machine.

Yes you can still record brain activity, but it’s called “slow wave” activity- activity that indicates someone is sleeping or very tired. I actually had this happen during one of my experiments- I had to go in and wake the guy up! This data is not very useful unless you’re studying slow wave brain signals though.

Just watching this now. Will this brain fingerprinting work on those crimes that are outside conscious actions? Let's say if the suspect was genuinely sleepwalking or had amnesia or a psychotic break or those with genuine DID? Did this technique catch on or was it impractical? @@yuniwulandari3917 I'm so sure but there are some detectives that allow a criminal to get away with murder only because they passed it, that's very scary not only that it's a waste of time allowing the person to hide evidence, leave town. There was a time I believe it was a good tool until I notice statistics on how many people committed murders and passed. The same gut feelings along with evidence has always proved who the guilty person is without the polygraph. My reasons against it is simple I've seen to many lazy or unskilled detectives want to sit back and do nothing. I'm sure you have seen it too. The "Brain Fingerprinting" thing just strikes me as odd. I mean, what if you're shown photos of the crime scene and think "Oh hey, this reminds me of this other thing I saw on television couple years ago" BOOM. Murmur detected. Guilty. And just like that you're thrown into prison for a crime you did not commit. I mean... They had to have thought of this... right?.... Right!?...

No way this will ever be legit. Just because I have a dream about riding a unicorn doesn’t mean it’s real, yet I can have a very vivid memory of it. Also if it may work on the average Joe, what does it do when hooked to a true psychopath, the real criminally insane? Or just someone who may be no criminal, but insane? Or like you say, watched a tv show or a movie. Have they not seen the Minority Report?

brain fingerprinting is too subjective...show a bloody green teddy bear and a person could have a recognition of bloody or green or teddy bear or any fuzzy stuffed toy or the counter top it is sitting on or any combination thereof...and could also mean that a person was there but just as a scared witness and maybe not at that specific time even! No way could this stand up in court as real evidence.

Rocío Aguilera it has its downfalls. Really, it’s only testing recognition. Someone might recognise a murder weapon, for example without having used it to kill someone. The "brain fingerprinting" that this episode sounded so optimistic about has gone nowhere as a technology. It has not been able to demonstrate any reliability that would make it useful as an investigatory tool, let alone have any evidentiary value in court.

Inkyguy, I feel the same way, for example the lie detector test, how many suspects took the test and past causing the detectives to move on to someone else rather than find out the person was guilty as hell. Any tech will tell you the secret of getting a more reliable answer you have to know which question to ask and the manor of which you ask them, in other words you need to be experienced and I have seen to many crooks pass I don't know why they use it in the first place what they need to be using are methods to analyze evidence and evidence only. Improve on gathering fingerprints off cloth without messing up evidence, at least I can say there are some that have the knowledge but needs to share the knowledge they know. I admire a detective who searches for ways to test objects that were used to kill someone. And being enamored by the fact that there are some labs are testing touch fabric analysis. Such test can be tested by defense and prosecutors, who wants to stand up in court saying well he pass the lie detector test that's why we didn't think they did it. Its a blessing it's not used in court because if it was a lot more cases would go unsolved, we already have big problems with investigators or prosecutors changing their statements because they want to be right all the time, and would rather a killer go free than to change their answers. It's always better when you use the evidence to get the right answer.
