The lady who raises the Xinjiang problem is making no sense at all. I come from Xinjiang and lived there for over 18 years. From my younger ages, the minority people, such as Uygur people, are living a equivalent live with that of Han's, from my living experience as we have so many uygur classmates. Actually, more privileges are given to minority people in some aspect, such as education etc. The news on western media are mostly biased and there are western foundations behind to support some Uygur extremists to make terrorist events in the name of democracy and independence.
@HL-zk4zc4 жыл бұрын
@Grand Budapest what you said is not fully true. The cases you raised are of some extreme cases. The the cases you raise in western country are also not fully true. In western countries, going to good private school also requires good financial support from family. Yes, there are some people from poor nations in these private school but most of them come from the rich families of that nation, so they can send their kids to another country. In China, there are indeed some good private school only rich kids can get in. Also, a lot of Chinese public schools are doing good and provide high quality education. Kids going to public school also can good chances to get to good university if they study well. And most student in top 20 uni in China come from such public school, and a lot are from normal family (not rich family) and even poor family. The absolute equality is not existing in both western countries and in China, but regarding education, China is doing a far better job than western countries. The education accessibility and quality provides so many Chinese people to improve their life and move to a higher class of social status, while this is hardly achievable in western countries. Also, what I argue in this comment is the equality in minority people and Han people. In fact, the minority people enjoys much more benefits than Han people in education, politics and many aspect of life. For example, the university entrance exam will give minority student extra score (10-50 points) even though they are receiving the same education with Han people in the same class (uygur student can have 50 more score!) Another sample, when one child police was valid, minority people are exempted. Also, Han people are educated (as least in my age) to respect minority people’s religion and eating habits. If a class of us are eating outside together with uygur classmate, on table there will be only halal food and we would not talk anything about the non-halal food, as we serve their need first. If there is any non-equality in China, putting minority’s people need first can be one
@HL-zk4zc4 жыл бұрын
@Grand Budapest about media, well, media in western is also manipulated. They just release what they want you to hear. See most main-stream media in US now, yes, they report some bad news of the national leader, but this is not for the good of the country but for the benefit of other party or to achieve politics benefits, the COVID this year definitely shows what government really cares people’s life and what government has the ability to minimize the death and recover the economy. The western countries have many merits and they are advanced in a time, but they cannot tolerate that another country of a different system can run well. Every country is not perfect, and different systems work for different country/people. If a so called advanced country denies, opposes and insults another country just because this country is different from that advanced country. This is called the prejudice and that is a shame.

The question above, "Is China an alternative to Western democracy?" is out of balance because it pits a nation against a political system. It should be "Is the PRC an alternative to the US?" Another balanced question is "Is a Socialist nation with political characteristics like that of the PRC an alternative to Capitalism with the political characteristics of the U.S. political system?" because it compares two economic and political systems. There we have two questions that can intelligently be discussed.

The other speakers then immediately thereafter go on to lecture and bombard the Chinese advocate, to the point of pointing fingers and shouting without giving him a chance to respond, whilst another scolds him for attacking her knowledge. This is the democracy that is being advocated - Shut up and do what I say, I know better what is good for you than you do! A lot of western scholars lock themselves in an imaginary ivory tower and get submerged in their West supremacy view. I find some of the western scholars grossly biased that they did zero research on China when accusing what the government is doing. On the other side, Chinese people have been learning English and getting exposed to the western culture generation by generation. Nexus Conference reminds me when CHINA was atttacked by the western powers including Russia and Japan. Apart from that, if CHINA refused to be dominated by them, history tells us the 'GREAT' Britain government introduced opium and ruled HongKong until 1997. Since your issues here are all about human rights, freedom and values, it's better for me to make a long discussions short, I would like to begin with defining Ideology as a belief only just as we consider religion is subject to one beliefs. As we all know, the lone chinese presence in your group is already domineering, if not humiliating to that person but that's not the point that I am driving at, my question is : why CHINA has adopted Communism instead of Demoracy? The reasons was that China want to be left alone and be free and independent from western influence and domination, right? In other words, they are what you made them to be because of your policy or theory during that time 'to divide and conquer' as what you have done in Africa and in the Middle East. The current map of the two continents(Asian and African continents) is my evidence. If the west defined Communism as dictatorial, then there's no difference between the western democracy which is now domineering the world. In short, domineering is just another word for dictatorial, isn't it?

In order for a government to be meaningfully democratic, it must have the support of it's people and large majority of it's people, otherwise it's failing and could hardly be called democratic. A.k.a., the US and many other western countries that are very divided. China on the other hand, has immense popular support, that definitely isn't fake by any stretch. China didn’t follow the “Democratic system” that been promoted to most of country and create a system themselves and it worked. Wouldn’t be one of greatness? I know nothing is perfect but it still it pointed that no only democracy works

notice how at 13:12, the lady tries to mock china by stating that Chinese people are too afraid to speak up against their government. she somehow thinks that she made brilliant observation, and even starts laughing. she then looks at the other `intellectuals´ but quickly realizes that nobody´s reacting to her ´joke´. Cringe in its purest form. Zhang Weiwei did very well, considering he was up against 6 people. It´s very noticeable that he is arguing on a higher than level than, say, Bernard Henri-Levy. The french guy was insufferable, he is drunk on liberal ideology. He acted the same way when he debated Dugin

The lady in the video was originally a media communications consultant in the World Bank's Middle East and North Africa Department, with an annual salary of $133.66 million. Seconded to the US State Department on September 19, 2005. Prior to the secondment, she was promoted to managerial position without competition and received a salary increase of up to US$20,000 as required, but actually received a salary increase of US$47.34 million. After entering the State Council, she received a salary increase of $13,500, an annual increase of 7.5%. So far, Liza's annual salary has reached 193.59 million US dollars, which is at least 7000 US dollars higher than the annual salary of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. The former president of the World Bank offered his girlfriend a promotion and salary increase, so he resigned.

China policy is on right track - alleviation of poverty, protecting environment. Result in few years time tell better picture than debate words. Like many country, all has mistakes. China had it too but learnt from it and get it right.

China's political system, characterized by one-party rule and centralized control, presents a significant contrast to Western democracies, which emphasize pluralism and individual freedoms. As China continues to grow in global influence, it's worth considering whether its model offers a viable alternative to Western democracy or if it highlights fundamental differences in governance and societal values. What are the implications of China's system for global politics and economic relations? Can alternative models of governance provide different but effective solutions to challenges like economic development and social stability, or do they pose risks to democratic principles and human rights?

The culture and values of China and Western countries are different. Which social system could attribute to the self-satisfaction and glamorous livelihood of citizens, the social system would be better. In China, a UK survey demonstrated that over 93% citizens support the government and enjoy their daily lives, the social system is therefore proved to be successful.

China's CCP is not an alternative to any foreign government. China does not seek to change other countries' political systems neither should foreigners seek to change China's. There's NO such thing as perfect flawless political system on earth. However, all sorts of systems of governments should be able to mutually respect, live, coexist and do business together in a peaceful, harmonious way.

I admire Chinese professor with his tactful approach and explanations, let admit, hard times are lurking ahead, predatory political economy based on 8000 sanctions, regime changes or airplane crashes, and the like 'heads must roll' covert actions will end despite staged financial system that has been in place since second world war, DNA of parasite is killing the host, but the host is realizing and will eventualy get rid of it.

Why does China has to be an alternative? What system works for China may not work for other countries and societies. It’s plain arrogance to try to push one’s system on others without clear understanding of others’ history and society.
@peternjoyce19 күн бұрын
China doesn't have to be an alternative. Alternative is an option not a mandate. It might work if you try. China is not trying to export its system but it offer to lend its experience if other countries are interested. Unlike the west, who not hesitate to undergo regime change around the world, China never force any country to adopt its system.

The Western way of telling less developed countries about democracy is more like a rich ass person telling a homeless guy about life quality, healthy diet, and appreciation to fine arts, while food and a god damn shelter is really what the homeless people are thinking about! Democracy is never a bad thing. But is it the panacea for poverty and starvation? No, because it is so hard to get everybody on the common ground, especially when somebody needs to lose their interests for the general goal. At least when everyone is well educated and based on some extend of secured life, we then talk about democracy.
Dude, you should make this comment 6 months later. It is even more ironic.

If totalitarianism is suited so well to Chinese people then why does Taiwan do so much better than China in all metrics?

Scary Bird you have been misled by the western media. Taiwanese by no means doing better China. Decades ago? Yes. Now? No.

@@scarybird977 That's just history now. Taiwan used to be good because the United States wanted it to restrict China, so it gave a lot of support in many areas: economy, technology, military, etc. But most of the time, mainland China is blocked by the West on most things. Therefore, mainland China has developed better than supported Taiwan under the blockade. Can this fact tell you something?
