Awww damn Sky Whirl is gone. I had a couple of awesome AWESOME MEMORIES on that ride. Those cages gave some privacy...heh heh heh heh. I remember meeting a gorgeous girl from either Waukegan or another city. Damn we had fun. As I said this place has SO MANY MEMORIES FOR ME. It was a incredible place to take a date. I really was my escape and since all we had in Milwaukee was our State Fair for 2 weeks and a midway that included a Tilt-a-Whirl. We had few options. Six Flags wasn't far. Hell my buddy Dan got a job there for 3 summers. Thanks to him I spent 2 summers tagging along when he went to work. It was THE BEST SUMMER EVER!!!!!!!

thanks for the trip down memory lane I remember riding most of these rides yes I even rode the edge! The ride I miss the most is the sky whirl. It was the park Icon. It was a smooth quiet and long ride with the best views. also it made my girl friend hang on to me tighter

I loved it as a kid. My mom and I would ride on there on hot days to take a break from the sun. Those covered compartments were nice and cool! I always called it the Tweety bird cage as a little one. 😂

Ragin Cajin was 1 of 2 rides to survive the demolition of Riverview where the ride was known as the Rotor. Same ride same parts everything. It sat in storage from 67 till 75 when it was purchased by Marriott's owners for the park.

Sorry about another comment. But Splash Water Falls was the BEST ride when it was 80°+. Besides the ride itself when you stood on the bridge you'd get hammered with a HUGE WAVE of water. It knocked people on their butts. If they weren't ready that is.

My brother was maybe 3 or 4 at the time and was up on the bridge with my mom. He pulled his hand away from my mom just as the boat came down. He was standing next to her, then he wasn't. He got washed to the other side of bridge. We laugh still about his disappearing act on that bridge! He wasn't hurt but he was certainly very confused.

Six flags great america never killed the wolf just moved to six flags america gave it a new name a new paint job and it was good as new the old plot was originally for X Flight but they relocated it next to the Demon and built Goliath in its place

The Edge was closed after the brakes failed and caused some fatalities. Since it was a low occupancy ride it was never reopened. Site became Power Dive, a kinetic energy boat loop ride

I remember the Whizzer. A kiddie coaster, no loops. For the cowards in your group..lol. I remember my first trip there. I was 10. I was and am afraid of heights. So I wouldn't go near the front. Little did I know since I never rode a big coaster that the back car WHIPS you over the top and your gut goes right to your throat. I almost crapped myself....lol. But after that first run....I was HOOKED. I remember the first Haunted Great America I went to. They had the Eagle, well one side going BACKWARDS. It was awesome. Z-Force, Iron Wolf, Shock Wave, the Tidal Wave. Not sure if the Shuttle is still there. The giant space shuttle that hangs upside down for 5 seconds as it crawls over the top. A giant shuttle pendulum. Change would fall like crazy. Sunglasses, anything you weren't holding tight. Oh and the lap bar was automatic. It ALWAYS crushed your balls. You'd hear a collective AARGH as it was lowered. God so many rides gone. So many insane ones in their place. The "Tidal Wave" I think was the name. A giant loop, that was it. You'd rocket up and through it, up a hill, then backwards through it, up another hill then done. It was like a 45 second ride. But I still rode it. I am a idiot. See what happens when you type a comment before you watch a video. Sorry. I'm a dumbass. Another goof by me...the Power Dive was the Shuttle ride and its gone...😢. Damn!

Man I rode a lot of these that are no longer. Tidalwave, Zforce, Rolling Thunder, Iron Wolf(sucked) and my all time favorite Shock Wave. Also rode The Edge and got a t shirt as a kid with the coyote holding a sign saying I went over or maybe I survived the Edge lol. The hay baler wow memories!

Maybe someone can help me here. When I was very little maybe 6-8 ish (I’m 20) there was a green coaster looking ride that I was always terrified of. I don’t think I was big enough to go on it. It was near maybe the back of the park and I remember it being very box like, like a mess of track sort of like ragin cagin but more coaster like. Does anyone know what coaster or ride this was? I didn’t see anything in the video that really reminded me of it but maybe the angle was slightly different from my short childlike POV.

The ride was refurbished afterwards to prevent accidents in the future...but the accident had permanently damaged local public confidence in the ride causing massive decrease in ridership despite the safety upgrades given. Eventuality The Edge was removed in 1986

9:00 The Edge was removed from Great America in Gurnee Illinois not because of popularity reasons, but because of a critical malfunction that caused a fatal accident. I was actually on the ride the day before that accident. It had some pretty scarey problems while I was on it, and, as soon as we got off the ride, they shut it down for the remainder of the day. It reopened the following day and that was when the fatal accident occurred.

Iron wolf was removed for, roughness, decline of popularity, and just for an example, when it was built it was 100 feet. When it was torn down it was 97 feet. Rajun Cajun was removed 1. SFA is more of a family park so it would benefit them more 2. The riders per hour was very low compared to the other coasters in the park.

What was the name of the ride that was across from shock wave. It was a spinning ride. You stood up against a circular wall. Then when it was spinning fast the floor fell from under your feet, but centrifugal force (no straps) kept you pinned to the wall.
