Probably the best video on this topic due to the visuals. Straight to the point and doesn’t focus on someone speaking waving their hands. Thanks for the upload.

But the video is still relevant as the IRS still wants to see all the documents in this video. It's just the application that change... it is shorter now. But you still need to submit your bylaws, articles of inc, etc. Thanks for the comment.

The presentation of this information was extremely helpful. I do have just a few questions. Towards Section VI it skips to VIII then XI. Were there any sections in between? Also would a non-profit have to write their own By-Laws or can a standard template be used? In regards to the Articles of Organization does the state have a standard template? And, what type amendments would you advise to include? Lastly, in regards to the financial data, would you recommend seeking help from a CPA or could this be something completed at home using outside resources found online?
@SteveVickAK8 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. You can use a template for your Bylaws but I would then customze to your needs. States have an Art of Inc form, but often they don't include all the things you will need to get your 501.c.3. So then you end up have to redo your Art of Inc. Hi Steve! I am so glad I found your site, and your videos have been very helpful. I am trying to set up a non-profit in Hawai'i. I have never filed for 501(c)(3) before, so your channel has been extremely helpful to me. Thank you. I have many questions, but for now, I have one. When looking for Board Members, would it be a conflict of interest to ask people you know? My non-profit is going to be providing workshops, resources, and support for women in Hawai'i, (Especially those who have experienced violence and abuse.) and I know many people who are great Board Member candidates. But I want to make sure I am creating a conflict when asking people to join us as Board Members. Thank you for your assistance.
@SteveVickAK8 жыл бұрын
Boy, I am sorry for the late reply. You can have people you know on the board. That is not a conflict. And many people do this when they start their nonprofit. Eventually you will want a board of skilled/experienced people to help lead and grow your nonprofit. Check out my new site, we have a forum moderated by a lawyer who is available to answer your questions. nonprofitally.com/forums/

Yes, great video - fantastic intro to getting tax exempt status. But - question - why do you end with "writing a grant"? I thought the whole purpose of non-profits were to GET money, not give it away. (Or do I have something mixed-up/backwards about what "writing a grant" means?)
@SteveVickAK5 жыл бұрын
Nonprofits have missions that serve as a guiding purpose for their organization. Any money they a nonprofit gets should be used for mission-based purposes. Grants provide funds to help nonprofits fulfill their mission.
@hg2.5 жыл бұрын
@@SteveVickAK So the NP is Making the grant or Receiving the grant?
@SteveVickAK5 жыл бұрын
hg2 typically the NP is applying for a grant that is being offered by a foundation. Though many foundations are nonprofits. So I can be confusing. There are many types of nonprofits. This video is mostly for 501.c.3’s. Thought there are c.4’s and all sort of other types.

Good morning folks This 1023EZ looks quite well but can you get it when you are outside the States? Actually the sane question I have about the 501.c.3 status which I am learning that it would not harm me but boost the ecological projects my fiance and I started in 2012 before the car crash that took the life (or live, I do not remember if its with an f or an v). Maybe I should be thinking of a joint venture with an NGO in the US or something similar. Any tipps are welcome =)

Thank you for your information. I'll check your website next. Since NonProfits need to keep the minutes to meetings can we, the public, ask to see those minutes? There is an organization here is Reno called Sierra Nevada Teen Ranch that should probably be questioned and investigated. Can I do that?
@SteveVickAK6 жыл бұрын
So, some states require open meetings and thus the minutes must be open to the public. Others do not, or just don't say either way. You may find info in the orgs bylaws about the availability of minutes. Here are two good articles, www.forakergroup.org/index.php/resources/presidents-letter/confidentiality-and-transparency/, thenonprofitlink.org/PubApps/nonprofitfaq.php?i=25&c=9

Thank you, Steve. Very good information. Transparency is quite the issue these days, isn't it? I believe that one of these days everything will come to light. That will be a very interesting - and intense - day, and I am actually looking forward to it. In the meantime, here on this earth, I will be more careful in giving away my time, money, energy, affections and allegiance. I've been robbed too many times to just give blindly - assuming the non-profit is really for the intention of helping the helpless. My advice to others is to do the same. Check it out first!

Thanks a Million Steve!,.. Awesome video!,..can you please tell me where I can get an idea of how much I should/can suggest the yearly salary for my services/time? I run an amateur boxing club. Most my kids are under 18yr old and come from low income families. I want to know How much does a amateur boxing trainer/coach earn a year in wages? Should I suggest an hourly rate of pay... Or should I suggest a salary? I understand that nothing is gonna be ‘for sure’ because this all depends on the donations I get throughout the year. But Im definitely gonna need to know. And yes, I am super excited about finally becoming an organization. For years the gym has operated by the funds from my fathers own pocket and I’m trying hard to do it differently. Better. Hello Steve. Thank you for posting this very informative video. I am new at this, so please forgive me. I am a landlord and I own a 6-unit apartment building which I pay very high property taxes to my county each year. To avoid paying property taxes on this building in the future, I have often thought about turning my apartment building exclusively into what is commonly referred to as a "safe house" for the sole purpose of housing people who successfully graduate from some of the 30-day alcohol and drug addiction recovery centers in my area. Steve, do you happen to know if I will still be required to pay property taxes to my county on my apartment building if I were to incorporate and set it up as a 501.c.3 Nonprofit safe house for the sole purpose of housing people in recovery?" Thank you for sharing all your knowledge with those of us here who have so much to learn. Appreciate your effort and time. Sincerely, Dave

You do not need to be under a 501C3 to be tax exempt. You are signing up for rules and restrictions, with no benefit to you. By being a Church you are exempt already.stay away from this status. They inhibit speaking against abortion, limit political speech, and limit content regarding Preaching the Bible. Please seek the Lord before signing up for this.
@SteveVickAK7 жыл бұрын
Hi Valerie, Churches are tax exempt by default. But donations to the church can not be written off unless the church is a 501.c.3. There are many of churches that are 501.c.3 nonprofits.
