It’s really good to have Colin Farrell back as the Penguin. And Matt Reeves recently confirmed this month that the Penguin will be back in The Batman Part Two movie. Also, The Penguin TV series takes place one week after The Batman Part One movie, so it still takes place around the year 2022 timeline.

Also, they’ve changed his name to just Oswald Cobb for this, not Cobblepot. His origin is now very different from what it originally was. Now he’s very working class, where a name like cobblepot would be weird. Before, for most of the character’s history, he was from a kind of weird, aristocratic family who had hella money.

True but his family had fallen from wealth and grace from what I remember. I always saw Penguin as a street thug with delusions of grandeur, trying to be loved and respected and pretending to be an equal to Gotham's elite, whilst really just being a vicious thug.

@@RuaidhríRyan depending on which interpretation you read/see, there are varying degrees of aristocracy involved, but the yearning to be important and powerful is always there. The change to Cobb now is more about the character fitting into that Staten Island blue collar working class environment better. It’s a solid change for the character that honestly probably should’ve been codified even in the comics years ago

@@jasonmarbach I've honestly been waiting since Dark Knight for this version of Penguin. When Nolan said he wouldn't include Penguin because he wasn't realistic enough, my exact response was "what is he talking about. Penguin's a mob boss. Why not have him fill the power vacuum left over from all the mobsters being taken out in The Dark Knight". So it's very satisfying for me to see them pretty much doing that here.

I feel like Vic's origin is a nod to Jason Todd's origin. Batman recruited Jason Todd as the second Robin after he caught him trying to steal the wheels off the Batmobile. So Penguin basically has his own Robin now.

And he's able to express a wide range of emotions too! Most heavy face prosthetics leave an actor with a stiff mask that doesn't bend super well, but not here. I haven't seen a make-up that good since Mrs Doubtfire.

I wouldn’t say that lol. Both shows are about the mob but they are very different. I recently rewatched the sopranos pilot and the two first episodes couldn’t be more different. So much is different, the tone, the plot, the vibe, the pacing, what the show is really about, They aren’t alike at all besides being mob shows. And I would say penguin is actually more of a mob show because the sopranos was more than that, it was about Tony the family man, him being a father and dealing with life in general. One similarity was that both Tony and oz visit their mom but their visits to their mother couldn’t be more different.

No, it’s already been confirmed he won’t be. Supposedly there’s something like one or two throwaway lines, but that’s it. The concern was that he’d take too much of the focus away from Cobb.

I thought it was good but realllly slow but I’m sure it’ll build. The acting was great though. I just hope there is a little more action beyond dramatic scenes at tables. Which are great but we got 4-5 in one episode. But I’m just nit picking the way everyone does with everything else these days lol. The show looks great, the music is great, and the acting is great. I just need it to pick up a little bit.

Reminder. Do NOT sympathize with the penguin. This guy profits off the misery of others. Killing should not be an easy thing to do. These characters in the show, they are not human, they are monsters, and they don’t need any sympathy.
