Damn man. I love you guys, but your abilities to nitpick over the smallest things is second to none, especially considering it made you miss the whooolllleee point of this episode. And you missed some stuff in episode 12 between Faye and Gren too, so you've missed out on that part of her character as well. And now because of that, you guys just don't care about/misunderstand Faye which is tragic because she's a fantastic character. Even some of the things you didn't understand were blatantly explained but you guys just missed it by not listening lol, not just this episode but previous ones too.

Literally I just gave up them understanding this show. They want the backstories of the characters. Then a character episode is given to them.... they talk over it ....miss literally things that are told to them, try to talk about maps, and then they obsess over about how the video was sent to them?!!? ..... I have no problem you not liking a character if you actually understand the character. But at this point I am pretty certain they literally made stupid jokes over a lot of Faye's motivations during Jupiter Jazz and Speak like a Child, and doubt they actually understood her Valentine episode (obsessing about her age for some reason). I am going to ignore any comments they make about Faye....I mean they literally couldn't figure out Jet was called "Black Dog" , so I don't expect them to figure out Faye's arc to "belong"

I had a TOTALLY different reaction after watching this session. The idea of Faye watching her younger self with so much hope and optimism, and then seeing herself as a totally different person was sad af. Then finding out she couldn't remember anything was devastating. Watching that part in your 20s is rough.

I was really waiting for it because I thought it would change their perspective on Faye. And it is so important for the end of the show, even if they go back and rewatch this one the ending won't have the same impact now imo. I won't even watch the rest of the video if everyone's saying it's so disappointing. Gosh, they were talking about youtubers when she was being both spontaneous and shy trying to send a heartfelt message to her future self. :/

I watched this anime like a month ago and this, plus the final three sessions, made me cry. It's just really sad. Faye's life is so unfair. I'm really mad at Nahid, because he's always messing it up to the others. Gladly, Miky wasn't around for this one or he would be bringing up his really absurd theories all along the session.

Very funny that they immediately focused on "where'd the tape come from?" Surely they realize that kind of thing isn't important. They're 18 episodes in and it doesn't seem like they understand Cowboy Bebop is episodic in nature.

I'm sad you missed the point of this episode, how it completely explains Faye's character and the tragedy of her life. Her accident turned her from an optimistic, cheerful person to a negative pessimist that's spiteful of the world. It's like a part of her was torn away. She's lost everyone she's knew or loved, wracked with debt and doesn't even have the memory of her youth. It's depressing as hell, and you can't help but feel so bad for Faye.

Idk about you guys, but that last part of Faye's tape, it kind of made me sad. Everybody has that kid inside, when we grow up, we sort of forget to do simple things that makes us truly happy. Yeah, after seeing the like to dislike ratio on this video, then seeing the comments and then watching a little bit of it myself, I can safely say that you missed the whole point. Sadly, you had kind of already missed the point during Jupiter Jazz where it was made so obvious that Faye has commitment issues to any type of personal relationship and is constantly in between wanting to belong somewhere and leaving that place again, because she's afraid of losing it. All you had to say about her in those two episodes was: Oh, she just wants attention. I don't wanna get all moral high ground on you guys, but that's such a shallow, fucked up thing to say. It's like watching a person with depression being like: What an attention seeker. Welp, I hope you read these comments so that you understand why we're kind of disappointed by you missing out on the entire point of Faye's character.

I was tearing up when I watched this episode as the young Faye cheering her-ten-years-older-self up while the adult Faye watch speechlessly, unable to recognize the stranger in the screen. Why do we make records, be it cave paintings, diaries, pictures, or video recordings? To put it online to make money? That seems to be the only thing you guys could comprehend. No. We hope to record us at the moment. We want to preserve our state of being, our memories, our feelings. We want to remind our future selves what we were in the past. As young Faye said, “Don’t loss me”. Yet, as much as we desperately try, eventually, through amnesia or other toils of life, one always loss that pure and exuberant self when growing up and become someone who keeps losing the bets against life. So much so that our past self could look just as strange and distant as the young Faye in the screen. Looking at Faye regaining a few glimpses of the past only reminded us how much more precious memories she has lost, and how much we all have lost growing up. Unfortunately, it seems you guys are unable to understand or appreciate any of that. I use to look forward for the day you guys get to the last few episodes. I want to see your reaction when Call me Call me starts to play hauntingly in the background. Based on what I just saw, I probably would dread for that moment. Therefore, thumbs down, unsubscribe.

The tale that jet tells in the beginning is a Japanese fairy tale (otogi banashi), who in a typical modern version is a fisherman who is rewarded for rescuing a turtle, and carried on its back to the Dragon Palace (Ryūgū-jō) which lies beneath the sea. There he is entertained by the princess Otohime as reward. He spends what he believes to be 4 or 5 days, but upon his return to his home village, he finds himself 300 years in the future. When he opens the box (tamatebako) he was told never to open, he turns into an old man.

Faye's tape really gets to me. Faye lost so many years of her life & she can't get those years back, the girl in the tape she knows that it's her but she doesn't remember her. The line where she says "don't lose me" she orginally meant it as "you can do it, me" "don't lose, me" "I belive in you" but now over time for Faye it became "don't lose me" "don't lose who I am" but she can't remember any of it so in a way she did lose that girl & she's gone forever so it's like a part of her died.

Citron Hi, I’m Sheheryar the one who edited the episode. I am a huge fan of bebop and Wantanabe’s work. So naturally, I was excited when these guys were reacting to it. Fayes arc is one of the best parts of the show, it really changes her from the femme fatal to a tragic character. As an editor, I usually focus on what their take on the show is, because it’s what’s key in the reaction. Unfortunately sometimes the reaction isn’t there, but I always try to highlight the important points in the show. There’s a lot of nuance in each episode that can be missed without multiple viewings and there is only so much I can keep with 10 minutes. Thanks for the feedback though, I’ll try a little harder to catch these things in the edit.

It's basically like Back To The Future but instead of Doc Brown mailing Marty, Faye just post-dated the package to be mailed to herself in ten years and the delivery company just happened to keep forwarding it to every last location she was known to be at for the last 100 or so years. Some delivery companies have apparently actually done that where they held onto a package and delivered it decades later to any surviving family member of who it was addressed to as long as the company or the records are still around.

Now everyone sit back and realize that these guys have 4354 patreons. Meaning, at the very _least,_ they get $4354 per month, and probably more like $21770 or more when you factor in their $5-$100/month tiers. They get this for sitting around with their friends and watching tv shows. You know, the thing most people do for fun in their limited free time when they aren't doing any actual work. And the kicker is, they're not even good at it. Any completely fucking average, random group of friends could do this and probably end up doing a better job without even trying. I mean, fuck, I've sat around watching shows with friends, and we were all funnier, more attentive and had better insight, all without having an audience to feel any sense of obligation towards. And here these guys are, with a studio setup, recording for thousands of people, literally being paid more than most people's monthly income for it, and required to do nothing but pay attention for just 22 minutes and give some commentary. I mean, how fucking lazy and entitled do you have to be to get paid to watch entertainment and still not be bothered to put any effort into it?

This reminds me of when I was 9, and I got extremely confused in math class. I was given a word problem asking how much it would cost someone to ship a package based on the weight of the package, the cost of postage, the distanced sent, etc. I got hung up on the fact that the person in the problem was sending stuff to their aunt in Wales, and since at the point I had never heard of Wales before (Hooray for USA education), I thought their aunt inside of a whale. I didn't even figure out the rest of problem, I just sat there for the rest of class trying to figure out the logistics of living inside a whale and receiving packages from the outside. Long story short, don't get so hung up on every detail that you miss the big picture, fail your math assignment, and have to redo it during recess.

The title is a reference to the Bible, 1 Corinthians 13:11: "When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things." We are born, we play and create and explore as children. In doing so we learn to be responsible, reserved, logical, realistic, or practical as we grow into adulthood. Some look back at our childhood with fondness, some with regret, some with relief. But in Faye's case it is similar to those with perhaps a midlife crisis or those with crippling depression; you are an adult and you have so much to be accountable for. Your bills and debts, your family, your responsibilities. Suddenly you realize you spent so much time working and worrying that you can't remember where the time went, who that child you once were, or even what it was like to have genuine hope and joy...That is the lesson.

In keeping with the musical tilt of all of the titles, it's actually a reference to Speak Like a Child by Herbie Hancock. Your interpretation is still valid though, works on a lot of levels.

the tape's been passed along ever since 10 years after the gate accident. it was delivered to the clinic of Whitney so they gave the info that her name is now Faye Valentine. Then the update came to the courier company that she was in Bebop so the delivery's been following the Bebop ship all throughout the solar system.

"In your time I'm no longer here, but I am here today. And I'll always be cheering for you, right here. Cheering for you, my only self." The end is one of the most sorrowful moments of Cowboy Bebop. And to me for personal reasons, it is the saddest moment. It's just so beautiful. And I especially like that piano music. It is simple, peaceful and sad.

Hilarious. The crew is both too young to understand the message, and too old to understand the novelty of recording yourself in the early days of home camcorders so they don't understand why you'd record a message. Talk about not being able to see the forest for the trees. Maybe they'll rewatch in 10 years and the episode will have more impact on them. I cry for the future of the world, nobody will be left but cavemen once the last smartphone battery dies.

It was so stupid how they focused so damn much on where the tape came from when ultimately it doesn't matter what mattered was lookin at *and* *paying* *attention* *to* young faye and how much of a different person she is and if she even can be really considered the same person since she lost her memory one of the most impactful scenes of this show ruined by a complete lack of attention, focusing on such stupid irrelevant points, and suraj not shutting his god damn mouth. I’ve mailed a letter to myself 5 years in the future when I was a child. (It was supposed to be 10.) It’s a surreal experience hearing younger you speak to you. The package they received was marked as being repeatedly forwarded which means courier after courier sent it to location after location looking for its final destination probably every couple years for about 50 years. “When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”

If you recall Session #15, Faye's real surname is unknown. "Valentine" was the pseudonym made for her by Whitney Haggis Matsumoto, her fraudulent lawyer. Since only 3 people would recognize that girl in the tape as Faye Valentine and know to send the packages to the Bebop for her, the sender must have been some combination of Haggis, Dr. Bacchus, or Nurse Manley. From the taped footage, Faye's home city is obviously Singapore with its world famous lion statue. Also, the TV show being watched by the video collector was a parody of the original BEVERLY HILLS 90210, whose lead characters were Brenda and Brandon Walsh (Shannen Doherty and Jason Priestly). The Session title (following the usual pattern of alternating between Jazz and Rock references) was taken from the Herbie Hancock album/song SPEAK LIKE A CHILD (1968).

Every episode is named after a song. Some are fake songs (Asteroid Blues and Waltz for Venus), some are songs are from the show (Ballad I’d Fallen Angels, Real Folk Blues) and a few are real songs (Bohemian Rhapsody, Hard Luck Women). Speak Like a Child is a Style Council song. It’s quite catchy.

Easter egg: The cheesy drama, the video store guy was watching, was a veiled reference to Beverly Hills 90210. If you go back and watch, at one point, the guy's head partially blocks the last half of two people's names: "Jason Prie..." & "Shanen D...", which is a reference to Jason Priestly & Shannon Dougherty, both of whom played the leading characters.

"Don't lose me!" the young Faye says so optimistically always makes me tear up. She obviously meant it as "Don't lose, me!" but it can be also read as "don't lose me (this person, the memories that make up me). And in the end, current Faye did lose her. That's why she is lost for words. It's a complex emotion born from the relief of finally learning about your past, mixed with how you failed your younger self. God, I love this show.
