The set of this movie took place in the same neighborhood my Dad sand his side of the family grew up in, South Central, LA. The neighborhood in this movie is on 126th Street. In fact, 126th was heavily inside Crip street gang territory. The cast and crew were pre-warned ahead of time to not wear any red clothing on set.

This movie Friday will go down in history as the greatest and the funniest movie of all time. Ice Cube, Chris Tucker, the late Bernie Mac, Tiny Lister, John Witherspoon who are still being missed today. At the same Time Chris Tucker who is a comedy legend was twice as funny ever since he was on Def Comedy Jam at the age of 20 and to this day Chris Tucker is still the best comedian to ever do it.

Definitely a classic. 'I'm Gonna Get You Sucka' is really funny but it's a spoof of the blaxploitation films of the 70's. Chris Rock made the incredibly underrated 'CB4' in the 90's, and 'Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood' is a pretty hilarious spoof of 90's LA gang films.

Now they know where the phrase "by Falecia" comes from. Friday is cult classic like Sparkle. Cooley High. Cornbread Earl and Me and others. You can't be black if you haven't seen this. Ya'll should check out The Fifth Element. It was Chris Tucker's break out film. He did well in Dead Presidents too. I'm also glad they got the messages in the film as well. The slice of life and family dynamic comment was very good.

Great reaction! I didn't expect anyone to be reacting to Black movies I grew up on. This movie is a timeless classic. When though the tech is obviously dated, it's funny no matter what. A couple corrections: this movie isn't an indie and it was created years after Ice Cube started acting (Boyz In The Hood). The guy that played Red (DJ Pooh) co-wrote the movie. DJ Pooh produced a lot of songs for Ice Cube including It Was A Good Day. And Spike Lee got big in the 80s, but he kept it going through the 90s.
@filmfanaticx4212
@filmfanaticx4212 2 жыл бұрын
Well, I would say that you could still consider it "indie" in some way due to the fact that while a major studio project, it was still a film with a very small budget (almost half of Boyz n the Hood's 6.5mill budget) and featuring a first time filmmaker, first time screenwriters, and two leads with only 8 film credits to their names combined (7, not counting Chris Tucker's first ever, uncredited appearance in The Meteor Man). As for Spike Lee, I would say that while yeah he hit big in the 80s, it was really right at the end of the decade with Do the Right Thing that made him hit mainstream gold (though not to discredit She's Gotta Have It and School Daze, which are great also), which kept his momentum going through the 90s, which one could interpret that as being his big-break into the 90s, even just on VHS sales alone of Do the Right Thing back then...

I was good friends with Chris Tucker for a couple years before this came out, and he had NO IDEA that it would be what it became. He'd already shot "Dead Presidents," and he was SO excited to have done a movie with the guys who did "Menace II Society," (which was coming out in October and all of his career thoughts were about that), so when we went to the premiere for "Friday" in April, there weren't a whole lot of expectations. Needless to say, I was presently surprised. It's almost impossibly cute to think about it now, but the next day, (the day "Friday" came out), Chris and I went to the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood (where the premiere had been the night before.) It was the middle of the day, but he still made me jump out of his Land Cruiser (what he was driving at the time) and ask the box office person how the sales were going. A pair of young people happened to be buying tickets for "Friday" - and I directed them to Chris - who was illegally parked while waiting for me. They were overjoyed to meet him, and he was beyond happy that they were buying tickets. His life completely changed after that movie came out (no argument about that), but nobody who was around at the time could have predicted it 🙂.
