Not sure if you have started season 5 yet of Angel, but if you have not, do not watch the opening credits. Also put hands in front of bottom of screen for opening ‘lesser credits’. I’m sure you will watch Vamp Diaries because of votes, but you should watch Xena (it’s literally a combo of Buffy and Angel: empowered female lead, trying to make amends for a very dark past). Also recommend True Blood. It’s far darker than V Diaries, but far, far better!

Love that this episode low key explores Angel’s dark side. He compares Wolfram & Hart to Angelus and laments the loss of purity. The freedom from guilt and accountability. He misses the clarity. As noble and heroic as Angel can be, he still has his own problems that he has to work through. Being a champion didn’t come naturally to him. He had to work on it for over a century and even now has to actively work to maintain it. Very inspiring and relatable story.

Blind Date was a great episode setting up a brilliant finale in S1. This show really came into its own in late S1 with some stunning episodes. Lindsay going back to Wolfram & Hart, is a twist at the end. Angel is just so cool in the episode the way he kills Vanessa Brewer is brilliantly done. Holland Manners is so detestable we just cant wait to see if he gets his comeuppance. Wesley know what's in the prophecy which keeps us on tenterhooks for the finale, it doesn't disappoint. On re-watches we realise what a great show this was.

Interesting you should say this... I find Angel finales so underwhelming, especially when compared to Buffy's. Buffy always delivered a powerhouse finale, Angel finales tend to feel like normal episodes.

6:04 That's exactly what acquitted means, she does get to walk. She wasn't found "not guilty by reason of insanity" she was acquitted because of a hung jury. She can be retried for the same crime, but the trial has to start over with a new jury.

That's not correct at all. Acquittal means she's found not guilty, and thus cannot be retried because of double jeopardy laws. If there's a hung jury, a mistrial would be declared, and that's when she could be retried. There's no such thing as, acquitted because of a hung jury. Also, acquittal doesn't automatically mean you walk free, in the case of an insanity plea. That's why "Not guilty by reason of insanity" is not the same as "Not guilty." It's a legal acknowledgement of mental incompetence or impairment, which needs to be treated, since it's responsible for a crime, and is potentially dangerous to society. The 90s/00s seemed to have a common sentiment that the insanity plea was some kind of get out of jail free tactic. In reality, the plea is used very rarely, and only when actually applicable. Because it changes the possible outcomes of the case from go-to-jail vs go-free to go-to-jail vs go-to-mental-hospital. When pleading insanity, there's really no outcome where you get to go free.

It's a terrific Finale. Sets up a brilliant S2. What's great about The Buffyverse is seeing old characters introduced back into it which always adds to brilliant plotlines. Love it when Angel says to one handed Lindsey when he tries to burn the scroll 'don't always believe everything that's foretold''. Wesley comes to the rescue with his brilliance in translation, but messes up with Angel's prophecy saying he is going to live! The revelation of Darla being brought back sets up some great episodes for S2. The last five episodes of Angel S1 were superb. Still cannot understand some BTVS fans refusing to watch Angel. The best episodes of this show are more than a match for BTVS, and in many cases surpassed it.

1x21 I was very curious to see how The Normies would react to Lindsay staying with W&H. 1x22 I love the emotional moment Angel travels from one hospital room to another. I just with it could have been a single tracking shot. The scroll wasn't a connection Angel had to The Powers. It was the way to fix the severing that was already done. Lindsay and Angel both assumed the stopped a prophecy when the prophecy came true even before the darla reveal. Just like Buffy dying. She did die. After that the prophecy doesn't stipulate how it could be fixed. It's not a coincadence Angel was absent for three episodes after Darla died in S1 of BtVS. He was mourning the fact that he lkilled his sire. Now we'll get to expand on their relationship after a whole season of her in flashbacks.

One new layer to Angel's game is the game of Destiny. In his case, finding out he has one makes things more interesting in the next season to come. Also seeing Wesley find his place with Team Angel is gonna be great to see moving forward. Cordelia's vision attack has brought out a more responsible side her as opposed to how all she wanted was to live a normal life. But S2 is gonna get more interesting in terms of not only Lindsay choosing a side due to the offer of a more powerful position, but also the role Wolfram and Hart will play starting with what's in that box.

Fun fact: The Angel investigation explosion in 1x22 caused severe damage in the lot that was behind the building. That was one of the WB's Roswell set at Paramount Picture. Jason Behr, aka Billy Fordham from Buffy's Lie to me (2x07) starred in that show and Julie Benz (Darla) had a recurring role.

Holland Manners was a great character. It was a shame when they killed him off. They tried to have other superior personnel replace him, but no other actor was as charismatic. Same for Lilah. After four seasons, she was one of the most interesting characters on the show. And the show dearly missed her absence in the fifth season. Eve felt like a very poor replacement. She had none of the grandeur, charisma or even acting ability to come even close to Lilah and her actress.
