I bought a mower just like that older one at a estate sale this past weekend...$40...put in new battery, plug, fuel filter...changed oil...it cranked right up. Was told it had been sitting in shed for 12, 15 years since last cranked. Im VERY satisfied with that deal.

Generally, many things seem to be improved I've noticed but I'm not that knowledgeable. I just like these! I'm hoping to get back to mine this season, I didn't get to it last year even though I put it in my way! lol

@@TheNovaJohn Well I worked AT the factory from 72 till the plant was closed by B&S, 90% of the time I worked there I worked in the Quality department, I've handled EVERY part, EVERY change, EVERY blueprint and did many of the first piece inspections during that time, the BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION is that since they are similar then one can swap parts, do adjustments willy nilly on all of them the same which is FALSE, doing so can cause your mower to be leas reliable, and even NOT safe

@@TheNovaJohn I worked AT the Snapper factory for 43 years from 1972 to when Briggs & Stratton closed the Snapper plant in McDonough, Georgia in early 2015, after that was closed VERY FEW were produced after that in Wisconsin.

Almost,,, there have been many improvements over time! They kept getting better but the basic design was pretty dam good from its origin!

I'm getting my 1985 snapper extra stuff series 5 ready for a repower with a 13 hp Tecumseh xl/c enduro overhead valve engine the sad thing is that Briggs and Stratton quit making them back in 2019 😫😩

My when I turn the key on my 1028 snapper it does nothing. I know the starter is good and the battery is good. Is there a kill switch that turns off the starter? I may be dealing with a wiring issue

Get the mulch kit instead! It replaces the discharge chute with a block plate that seals the deck. I use Oregon mulch blades and the yard looks amazing. Its also nice doing the leaves in the fall & winter this way

who cares? nobody buys those overpriced pieces of crap when you can buy a John Deere with a 42" deck, 22hp v-twin engine and hydrostatic transmission for the same or lower price. that's why Snapper discontinued them 2 years ago.

careful, did you know that Deere your talking about has a crap transmission that will burn out and cost over a grand to fix?

@@TheNovaJohn sure, if you beat it to death or use it like a commercial mower, but if you use it for it's intended residential use according to the manual, it will last a good 10 years or more. my neighbor is still running his D130 after 10 years (he even lets me borrow it) and it cost $500 less than the snapper at the time. But he also did the initial 50 hour service recommended by Tuff Torq, opened up the transmission, cleaned out the old 10W30 oil and metal shavings out of the gear box and filters, resealed it and refilled it with synthetic 5W50 oil. that gives it maximum torque and much longer life for people that want to keep it more than 5 years. John Deere doesn't tell their customers about this but Tuff Torq does.

@@mrbubetube Absolutely!! I have a video on trying to figure this out for a guy..Worked fine until it got hot then wouldn't climb a tiny hill and after that stopped moving altogether. Issue is like you said, if ya don't know, it could be too late. Not much ya can do after that. He cant do it himself so it put him in a bind. If I tried the oil change and it didn't work, its more money on top. Sux. People like these Snappers, they do well on the channel too. I laugh, I tell them they have over grown Snow Blower Transmissions lol

I don't claim to know a ton about mowers but my grandfather had a snapper just like in this video and I was about 5 yrs old when I rode on it, I'm 41 now and that thing still goes 😂😂😂

BS! These were the only homeowner mowers you could buy that were built to last..and they did. Mines 19yrs old, original engine still powerful. Theyre just like Toyotas....because theyre designed to be serviced, they will soldier on even during neglect, and if you treat them right and do the services they will last forever. So im glad you enjoy the generic lawn tractors that Lowes Depot will sell you....they suck, theyre not meant to be serviced and sure as heck not built to last
