Hahah, yup they grow up so fast :P Honestly if the car was at my house i would have had it finished in half the time, but having to dedicated the day to make the 2.5 hour round trip to go work on it definitely slowed down the process substantially!

Nice explanation on the build costs. They have grown to an expression session inside the cabins which is great. So many are works of art inside and out with wraps.

Yeah it's kinda cool, as i said in one of the vids, i'm doing stuff to this car i would never do to my soarer, flocking the dash and doing bright colours with the cage, i'd never do that to my beloved street car, but with this (as long as it's within the rules) i can kinda go nuts :)

Yeah i think building one of these to a decent finish will come to around this price, some things you get cheaper, some you spend more, but it evens out. Could just buy a second hand one but i enjoyed the build and liked knowing every part of the car, if something goes wrong i'm probably going to have a fair idea what it is very quickly :)

Nice! you've been one of the lucky ones, i heard that the earlier batches were really well made and have been going strong for years. Regardless i think it's the after sales support that is the big issues, parts going wrong sucks, but if the company is there to support you and help repair or replace the parts it's not a big deal, that's not happening with xyz from what i hear.Glad yours are going strong though!

Haha, true! the real cost is everything else which i'll be doing a video on soon, it's all the other stuff, the car is probably a fairly cheap part of it compared to tow car, trailer, clothing, fuel, consumables, license, entry fees, accom, the list goes on! Going to film that vid soon just figuring out a nice way to present it :)

I see this was pre-covid and before professional racers entered X3 cup while their categories were shut down. They spent far more than $24,000 and it was definitely not in the spirit of the class

Yeah pre covid although things were already starting to ramp up a bit then. Honestly you can still build a car for this price you just won't be up the front, doesn't mean you won't be having a bucket load of fun with another 5-6 guys and girls who are working with similar budgets :) I guess it all depends what you want out of your racing, if you want fun it's still an amazing category, if you want trophies then bring a fat wallet for car, setup and driver training.

It was, but when I bought it, it was out of registration. Now it definitely is not, you arent allowed to register a car for the street in Australia with a full full cage, only a half cage.

Na you're right mate, you can do it really cheap! i think more the point of showing the price is for a racing category, so to race in most door to door categories there is a minimum spec and safety requirements that have to be met and the excel, along with pulsar and tin tops are the cheapest around for doing that. For hitting the track and having fun you could seriously do it for the price you are! i'ts great!

Good question Chris. Firstly, i do love this little car, it turned out really well and it's super fun to drive on track, i think thrashing something like this around that was never designed for it is pretty fun especially when you are beating cars that were 4 times the price from new and way more powerful. But honestly if i had my time again i think i would have looked at other categories and other cars, if i had the money for multiple cars i'd still have done this but since cash has never been in abundance for me and i really can only have one race car i think i would have looked into others, i'm not sure what, but definitely would have looked around a bit more!
