Don't feel bad about putting that switch panel in your race car just because you wanted it. I'm trying to figure out how to wire the indicator lights I just realized it had, to work on my simulator rig for iracing etc. 😆 So I'm connecting it to a PC with a USB arcade joystick interface. I'm hoping the lamps will light up with the 5V I have easily available on the interface board. I realize this video is quite old, but thought you might find this amusing, if not timely. That switch panel must be a very popular item, because I got the identical one off Amazon, and I see at least 3 other videos with the exact same assembly shown in their thumbnails. BTW, dimming dash lights/gauges helps you to see better when driving on unlit roads. Some if not all models of Saab have a button that kills the lighting on everything non-essential, even turning off the lighting on the upper range of the speedometer. Clarkson once claimed on an old Top Gear episode that when he asked Saab what technology from their fighter jets had been used on their cars, the "vitals only" dash lighting button was it. Granted, I'm not trying to land on the rolling and pitching deck of an aircraft carrier running "dark", but I believe it's helped me avoid several close encounters with deer because I saw glints of reflections from their eyes significantly before they came into headlight range.

Hey mate so this is purely for my race car and non street use. I can physically lock the car with a key but that's about the extent of the security, if someone gets in they can just start it. If you have a look on the video you will see I completely remove the ignition barrel and this car never came with central locking or fobs so none of that is an issue :)

Hey bud, all the info is in the video from 3 minutes onwards i show you how to test each part of your ignition barrel to find out what each wire does. Do you have a multimeter? if not go grab one from bunnings for $20, then just ground out the black wire on your multimeter (attach it to something metal in the car that's not painted) then you can put the red one on each point at the back of your ignition barrel and find out what thye do, if you are on a wire and you switch your ignition to 'acc' and the box lights up saying there is 12v then you know that wire is the accessory, same goes for every other wire, as you turn the key you will see if there is voltage or not, the starter wire will only show voltage when you start the car. I'm not sure what else to tell you but honestly if this is too complex you should probably get a mate or an auto elec to give you a hand with it.

Hey mate this setup is for track use only, if you just want to run a start button there are hundreds of videos on KZbin telling you how to install one on your road car

Can you show me every single part you used in this video please?

Hey mate, you will find everything you need for this in a 30 second google search. Not having a go, but if you can't even google the parts i don't think you should be pulling apart and rewiring your ignition on your car!

"so I ordered suspension...." No doubt you've ordered one of the allowed shock/spring packages in the CAMS 3E Circuit Excel regulations. Really hoping you've gotten involved with your local CAMS affiliated Excel racing club, who would have informed you that the category rules are under review right....now. The rules for next year onward are being checked by the AMRC (Aust Motor Racing Commission) to be ratified by CAMS before the end of this year. And it's looking very likely from all the lively debate within the clubs over the last 8 months that a single make/model is to be the direction forward...and it may not be what you ordered. In the CAMS series, when your car is inspected and issued a log book the suspension in it is also recorded. If you do the log book after the beginning of 2020, which is when the new rules are likely to take effect, your suspension might not be compliant anymore. So to beat the new rules you may wanna get log booked before the end of the year with whatever suspension you've chosen, and then you'll have how ever many years the changeover period is to get use out of what you bought. As a racer for the last 4 years in a Korean taxi, I've followed your build with interest. It's great to see someone showing how it can be done in your shed!

Hey mate, yeah i've been following this rule change closely, and i got to the point where the car was 99% done and just needed the suspension (if you saw my shakedown vid you would see how shagged the stock ones were!) i did the right thing, spoke to the right people and contacted the vic cams representative for the excel series, the advice given to me was 'wait until the end of the year and we will have a decision on which suspension you should get' as a racer you know the thought of putting my car in the shed for 5 months while they make a decision just wasn't going to happen,so yeah i bit the bullet on a set of the old control suspension and as you mentioned i'll get the car log booked on that, so at least i can run that for a couple of years until i'm forced to change it. Right now i just want to get the car out to track days, hill climbs, motorkanas, whatever! and i need the suspension to do that. I'll explain more in the next video which should be out this week, at the end of the day i just want the car on the track so i can have some fun with it :) Appreciate you watching the vids though, lots of muppeting but i think a few people are getting something out of it and it shows that you don't need much experience to do this sport and have a crack at building a car yourself :)

there's only 1 problem: if someone can open your car he can start it without the key ahaha

*facepalm* yup that's why I've stated this is for my racecar, not for a road car, you wouldnt put something like this in a street car for that very reason.

just wait until you knock the guard closed while driving and the car shuts off... Switch should be guarded on.

HAHA, well i've been on the track a bunch of times with this setup and its no where near my hands, i have to fully extend my arm to flick it on, if i hit this while driving it means my hands are completely off the wheel and i'm waving them around like Kermit the frog :P But you do your car your way, i'll do mine my way :)
