Just picked up my excel recently. About to start the build very shortly. Very much looking forward to it! Thanks for inspiring me to do such an awesome build.

I'm pretty sure those that turn their suspension around so the tops can angle front-rear as opposed to right-left (or in-out) do so to be able to make Castor adjustments? Since you spent the extra on the lower Castor Adjustment Bolts, you may want to consider rotating your tops also? 🤔

Yeah i'm not sure i've been running them in this orientation now for a couple of years and the car seems to like it, :) we have to change out soon to the new control suspension so all this is going in the bin anyway! sad times.

@@TheNuggetProject Yes. SupaShock won the bid for the control suspension. I was wanting to get MCA myself, but held off until the control was announced.

You run the strut tops facing the back of the to gain castor, I’m yet to take mine to the track like that so I’m not sure if it’s better though :D

Yeah for sure, how they are now adjusts the kpi, I've got it all setup somewhat standard right now so il head out on the track how it is and tweak it from there :)

Hey mate what do you think the full cost to start racing excels would cost? Also what would a full year of racing cost tyres petroleum etc?
@TheNuggetProject
@TheNuggetProject 5 жыл бұрын
oh man, how long is a piece of string?! haha. I'm going to do a video on the full cost of this build but also how much you could do it for on the cheap and how much you could spend if you went bananas. Basically i think the cheapest way if you just want to get into it and yo'ure not that fussed about building your own car is to just buy one, they come up second hand ready to race from $8k quite regularly, front running cars can be up around the $15k mark, and honestly it's very easy to spend that much building one of these suckers let alone getting it right. The major things people forget it the trailer to tow it, you can get some bargains from time to time, but a decent one you are lookin at least $3k, and then you also need to make sure you have a car that can tow it. Outside of that you have helmet, gloves, fire suit, boots, etc, all that you are looking at an easy $2k, new but if you are thrifty i'm sure you could find second hand stuff. Other things to consider are your CAMS license, and the cost of track days and racing, most track days are between $200-$400 for the day, racing in the category i think is between $400 and $500 for a weekend of racing, but add in that a bit of fuel for the excel (i drive a turbo 6 day to day so even the excel at full noise is very fuel efficient) however the tow car to get to the track will cost a bit on fuel, so keep that in mind. So how much for a year? who knows, i've laid down some figures, times all that by 8-9 events a year plus track days for testing, then also add in consumables, tyres, brakes, filters, oil, and that's if you don't break anything, i'd leave a buffer for gearboxes, drive shafts, engiines, bearings, panels, the list goes on. I think if you can JUST afford it,. you can't afford it.

If the top hat has camber adjustment, why pay extra $500 for more camber? Hopefully you don’t want to run -6 degrees? Maybe I’m missing something??
@TheNuggetProject
@TheNuggetProject 5 жыл бұрын
Ok so i'm very much learning about all this stuff at the moment, however the top slot adjustments are to adjust caster and king pin inclination, basically how vertical the strut is changing the feel of the car, adjusting this will adjust the camber a bit but the real camber adjustment is at the bottom with the washers, basically you do have camber adjustment at teh base without this washer set however as you are just bolting up to large holes hitting bumps and ripples strips hard will shift it during track time and it will need to be adjusted regularly, speaking to people who don't have the washers after each event the camber is all out of wack, these washers stop that movement and give you a precise setting on the bottom. Once again i'm still learning about all this, but i was wrong in the video to call the top slots 'camber adjustment' as it's more caster and KPI adjustment, hope that kind of makes sense!

Don't listen to anything anyone tells you what to do with these, Murray Coote know's more about suspension that every internet wanna be combined knows. My boss is old friends with him, used to run the golds in his evo rally car. and if you are looking for someone to set up your suspension when you are ready, i have a good recommendation for you.
