When I heard this live I thought he was crying as he was saying the 2nd and 3rd place horse since it was obviously the last call of his career. LOVE the fact that he was actually laughing his butt off instead hahaha. Good stuff nyra

Never get tired of watching Tom know he knocked that last line out of the park! His last "call 2 the gate" almost got him though.

A true legend the first time I heard him was BC 1991 as a kid "and Arazi runs right by them." Enjoy retirement Sir. I met you on a couple of occasions and it was very memorable to me. Tom is the best race announcer in history and a heck of a nice guy!

Tom Durkin is the gold standard in race calling. He could make a bunch of cheap claimers sound like you were watching a Grade 1 Handicap just by how he found the words to make it interesting. He is greatly missed & that void will not be filled by anybody.

Tom Durkin was one of the best ever, but something seemed to happen in the mid 2000's. There was a steep decline in the quality of his race calls and he seemed to age 20 years in that time. Is there a story behind that?
