There are few things in the world as universally sought after as a gold Rolex. Of course it's a status symbol, a flashy gold timepiece built to show the world that you've made it. However, to some, it's much more than that. It's an acknowledgement to yourself that you've hit a milestone, you've made it to a point that previously felt so far away and so hard to achieve. The weight of a gold Rolex is more than the incredibly dense metal, it's a representation of where you've been, where you are, and how you got there.

Fantastic video Christian. What a testament to hard work both professionally and familially. It really highlights how attached watches can be with achievements and memories. What really hit me the most was when your mother said that the new Rolex was apparently hers but that the promise had to be that she would give it to your daughter. What a way to bond three generations with one inanimate object! Amazing. Only problem with this video is that it has me searching for a solid gold Rolex.... Which I cannot afford at the moment.

Honestly, mom’s advice about raising kids is some of the best I’ve ever heard. Certainly the first time I’ve ever put this way. “Raise your kids to be people you will want to hang out with.” Her saying that she lost her best friend the day her mom died and that she’d be okay because she raised two new best friends made me tear up 🥲

my great uncle immigrated to the netherlands and later belgium during the war in indonesia which he just barely escaped. He came from nothing, found his talent in making beautiful dresses for weddings, bar mitzwah, etc... He rewarded himself with a Rolex 18238 and a Patek 3700 to remind himself of his success and to, well, fit in. He had and still has beautiful taste in everything, watches, clothing, furniture, food,... He's worn the daydate every single day and night, and it shows. He's old, isolated and can barely walk anymore, but me and my parents regularly drive up to belgium to visit him and hang out. Years ago he gifted me both of his watches on my 18th birthday, to show his gratitude for our help and just... accompany him, since most family never bothered to keep up contact. Coincidentally, I was just getting into watches at that time, and I suspect he knew that. We decided to sell the Patek for his own retirement fund, he had absolutely NO idea what it was worth!! I regularly wear my daydate and I just absolutely love the story behind it, how it reminds myself of him, my family, and where we came from. All of my indonesian side of the family wears gold :) idgaf if some people think it looks tacky. Love the video.

Nice family story. But, I personally really don't like the aspect of Rolex that is purely a way to differentiate wealth. Your watch shouldn't make others feel bad, by you wearing it. And possessions, you own, shouldn't control your life.

Brilliant episode, lovely family reminding me of my own and since your parents are just 2 years older than me ,I feel I can relate to their story so much more… I’ve been following your stories for a while and as a watch lover I truly appreciate the sophistication and natural class of your presentations and personal taste . Both my daughters got into watches eventually and it makes me happy that we can communicate and commemorate some special moments through our mutual passion . Also, it’s rather evident that your parents sacrifices were not in vain and if there’s one thing that can’t be said about you in “ new money “ but rather comfortable elegance,which is the logical conclusion of that union and you and your sister (from what I’ve seen of her ) perfectly fulfill your parents expectations Have a great and productive year ahead and remember to keep the balance ! Best wishes from Cape Town 😊

This watch was and is my grail watch from over 35 years ago. I grew up lower middle class on a farm in WV. Now I live in DC and worked my whole life to be able to afford nice things. My Rolex is my pride and joy right after my family/friends. Great vid Christian.

Nice video and a great testament to a fortuitous family. But I'm still of the opinion that gold is too flashy and showy. The fact that people on the other side of the room will spot it is a reason for me not to buy it. First someone will wonder (or ask) if it's even real, then they will wonder what you're trying to compensate for by showing off like that, and when outside you need to be careful not to get it ripped off your arm. But perhaps that's just a European perspective...
@ronaldhenry3493
@ronaldhenry3493 Жыл бұрын
you think too much. just enjoy the watch. most people don't care what you wear and if you wear a Rolex, for people who know a stainless steel model is still showy. Buy a Vacheron(which is my favorite). As for watch theft, steel rolex will still attract the same attention. you gotta go for something like Tag Heuer or perhaps even Casio/Seiko to avoid that kind of attention

I have not a simple droplet of gold. But will have to agree that it’s a mesmerizing colour/martial It’s one of the three colours associated with the divine and the gods. These colours are blue, white and gold. The reason mythology has it like this, is that it is what you see in the sky where they preside. Blue is the clear sky, white the clouds and gold is the sun. We mere mortals live on the ground looking up unto the heavens above and wish some of it can be ours. Greetings from Denmark

Hubby got his Platinum 3 weeks ago with the ice blue. Ordered 2 months ago so we have the new one with the Fluted version. We gave the gold one same as yours to our daughter, that is hubby’s first Gold day date rolex from hard work 30 yrs ago. The platinum is so rare these days but we have a very good connection with our agent. She became family to us since this is our 20th Rolex piece and we also bought a Patek Philippe through her connection. There are more than 50 people in the waiting list for the platinum but she fought for us. Even when the pandemic hits and there is no rolex in the shop, she ordered my lady date just with diamonds Her reason is because hubby always buys rolex to give to our employees not just for ourselves 😊 $500,000 worth of Rolex and we will never stop buying it.
