As they said on the GDR "vorwärts immer, rückwärts nimmer" which roughly translates to "always forward, never backwards". This should be our motto all the time. Stay strong my friend 🫶

Fantastic video Christian. What a testament to hard work both professionally and familially. It really highlights how attached watches can be with achievements and memories. What really hit me the most was when your mother said that the new Rolex was apparently hers but that the promise had to be that she would give it to your daughter. What a way to bond three generations with one inanimate object! Amazing. Only problem with this video is that it has me searching for a solid gold Rolex.... Which I cannot afford at the moment.

One of the best and most healthful and touching videos from T&H. On what memories, stories, milestones, etc is all about. Love the storytelling and how watches associate to this, what branding is all about.

my great uncle immigrated to the netherlands and later belgium during the war in indonesia which he just barely escaped. He came from nothing, found his talent in making beautiful dresses for weddings, bar mitzwah, etc... He rewarded himself with a Rolex 18238 and a Patek 3700 to remind himself of his success and to, well, fit in. He had and still has beautiful taste in everything, watches, clothing, furniture, food,... He's worn the daydate every single day and night, and it shows. He's old, isolated and can barely walk anymore, but me and my parents regularly drive up to belgium to visit him and hang out. Years ago he gifted me both of his watches on my 18th birthday, to show his gratitude for our help and just... accompany him, since most family never bothered to keep up contact. Coincidentally, I was just getting into watches at that time, and I suspect he knew that. We decided to sell the Patek for his own retirement fund, he had absolutely NO idea what it was worth!! I regularly wear my daydate and I just absolutely love the story behind it, how it reminds myself of him, my family, and where we came from. All of my indonesian side of the family wears gold :) idgaf if some people think it looks tacky. Love the video.

Watching this again ,made me feel just how much I relate to your parents life story (they are few years older than me and my wife ) and the values they have and managed to pass to their children so so well - Mazal tov ! As for the idea of the gold Rolex and what it stands for … I just bought my first gold Rolex ( 1981 oyster perpetual ) with its original oyster bracelet and it’s absolutely wonderful, but the inspiration I got from your family’s story made the adjustment so much easier. Thank you . Best wishes from Cape Town 🙏

Honestly, mom’s advice about raising kids is some of the best I’ve ever heard. Certainly the first time I’ve ever put this way. “Raise your kids to be people you will want to hang out with.” Her saying that she lost her best friend the day her mom died and that she’d be okay because she raised two new best friends made me tear up 🥲

Looking back I enjoy to appreciate family time. All of my watches will be going to my daughter so that she may wear it and or give them to my future grandkids. Though I couldn’t say it even better “family is my Rolex “!

Brilliant episode, lovely family reminding me of my own and since your parents are just 2 years older than me ,I feel I can relate to their story so much more… I’ve been following your stories for a while and as a watch lover I truly appreciate the sophistication and natural class of your presentations and personal taste . Both my daughters got into watches eventually and it makes me happy that we can communicate and commemorate some special moments through our mutual passion . Also, it’s rather evident that your parents sacrifices were not in vain and if there’s one thing that can’t be said about you in “ new money “ but rather comfortable elegance, which is the logical conclusion of that union and you and your sister (from what I’ve seen of her ) perfectly fulfill your parents expectations Have a great and productive year ahead and remember to keep the balance ! Best wishes from Cape Town 😊

My mother bought me a $300 seiko watch when I finished high school. When I finished my undergrad, she bought my class ring. 2 months before I finished my MBA, she died. I was a wreck, but I finished the hardest college semester of my life with a 4.0. The first thing I bought when we settled her estate was a Rolex. To this day, when people ask me about it, I simply tell them my mom bought it for me. I know she’s proud.
